Pokemon Rumble World - Free-to-Play, Gauntlet-style Fun
« on: April 13, 2015, 04:43:39 PM »
Anyone else really enjoying this game? Have yet to spend any real world money on the game, but have played a lot of content. The collecting of Pokemon is great fun, buying costumes for my Mii is enjoyable, and earning enough gems through play sessions is a blast. The limit to how often you can replay levels allows me to have just enough time to enjoy the game without playing so much that I don't feel like the gameplay is too repetitive.

As a vocal fan of the series, I'd say that World is sitting right below the original in terms of best content. The unlocks are paced very well, and the purpose of challenges is satisfying, as they net you more diamonds. I'm not too keen on aesthetic changes myself so I stray from the costume or hades and focus more on the gameplay. While I am disappointed that the goodbye mechanics are gimped compared to the previous installments of the game I understand Nintendo wants to screw people out of their money and obtaining evolutions from goodbyes would defeat the purpose.

I am very excited to start obtaining rusted figures and Mega Stones, and I think the game has done a great job in making those feel like late but crucial changes. Is the title worth 30 bucks? I don't think so, maybe 15, but it is nice that there's a fund cap for any poor souls that invest that much money.

I still need to check it out. Pity that you can't level up your monsters. Any word on how/if Amiibo will be used in the game?

Big miss on Nintendo's part.

I would think they would have a Big "Pokemon Stadium" style game coming to Wii U where you level-up your Amiibo monsters to battle each other in either a turn-based style or fighting game. Could even feature mini-games that play off of different strengths like speed or jumping.

If you wish this game had Amiibo support, you're better off checking out Rumle U.

Wait, no, I lied. Don't ever try to get a Rumble U NFC figure. Ever.

so, I've kinda been giving this one a try. I really don't like that the toys are set in stone once you obtain them. I'm really digging this Kyogre I got that has Origin Pulse since it's essentially the Contra Spread gun, but I'm dreading when it eventually gets outclassed and I have to go back and hopefully get a fever and get the roulette to land on the Kyogre stage and then use the one friend who lets you repeat a stage for 2 Jewels so I can farm another one that hopefully has the Origin Pulse attack.

My only other Pokemon rumble experience was the Wiiware game's free demo when they released that. I've noticed some of the music here and a LOT of the presentation are directly recycled from that.

Right now, I'm trying to see how far I can get without spending money, only rationing out Diamonds to the most dire of needs. So far I'm up to Diamond/Pearl Baloons and am rank 16.

The literal power creep is a bummer, especially in the early game, but by the mid-game you gain access to many abilities like the Move Tutor (which allows newer Pokemon to learn the moves their species has had in the past) and another Move shop which allows a Pokemon to learn any move their species is capable of knowing.

There's really only two or three moves you'll want by the end of the game, and those are seeking and area-of-effect attacks. Seeking does wonders for combos and is extremely good for defense. Area-of-Effect is just awesome because it works well with just about any trait- if it knocks people back further, if it dazed easier, if it is boosted, or of it comes out faster.

that's kinda why I was digging Origin Pulse, because the spread shot effect was pretty much AoE, and each water bullet that shot out from the spread hit multiple times for what was at the time a very heafty chunk of an opponent's HP.

All the same, I've taken a little bit of time to do some basic Serebii research, learning about mechanics like wobbling and the rainbow during the baloon cutscene forecasting a fever on the next map you load. I'm strangely getting into this strange, shallow little game!

It's the micromanagement that originally got me into the Wii title, which in my opinion is the best of them all because of its fantastic co-operative play that's easily accessible for anyone. It also has challenges that are brutal- the ones in this game aren't so tough, it's the secondary objectives that will get you.

But yeah, it can be fun when you really get into it.

These have been revealed for a while, but the passwords for new Pokemon and even Pokediamonds were leaked.
