Nintendo Download - Febuary 26, 2015

The Download's gone bananas.

http://www.nintendoworldreport.com/news/39708/nintendo-download-febuary-26-2015

After a few weeks of lackluster Virtual Console additions, this week is a different story. Nintendo has gone ape, releasing 3 Virtual Console titles for both the Wii U and 3DS! All three SNES Donkey Kong Country games arrive today for the Wii U while all 3 Donkey Kong Land games are landing on the 3DS. If you want more Country action following Tropical Freeze, or if you just can't wait for the latest iteration of Mario vs. Donkey Kong, then these games are almost assuredly the fix for the lull!

It's a real pity that Nintendo couldn't cap this off by finally putting Donkey Kong 64 on the Virtual Console, but that would mean actually supporting the N64 VC on Wii U (on top of DK64's existing legal issues). Whatever you may think of that game, the DK collection isn't complete without it.

I'd love a remake instead. It could remove the silly need to get the Nintendo and Rare coins (the former more annoying to get) just to be able to face King K. Rool. It could also fix some other issues, too.

DK 64 suuuuuuuuuuucks.

Anyone know if the DK Land games are any good? I've never played them and I can't really find any reviews I trust for em.

IIRC, they're just bastardized ports of the DK Country games so they could run on the GBC. There's really no reason to buy them if you can play the DKC games instead.

Addendum: According to Wiki the Land games did have their own levels, even if they were using the same characters & concepts as their superior console siblings. So they're not entirely the same games.

Donkey Kong Land series has all original levels. See for yourself.

The confusion comes from numerous ports of actual DKC games to handhelds: DKC1 on GBC and DKC1 (again) 2 and 3 on GBA.

I played Donkey Kong Land 1 and 3 as a kid. They are very different from the SNES games, but they look and feel similar.
To me they're absolutely worth getting especially at that price $4. I bought Donkey Kong Land 3 last night and I'll probably buy the other 2 this weekend.

I would rather get a discount on another VC game, rather than a discount on games I have already played.
