Who is the man in the photo? I assume he has some to do with Nintendo Phuten. Looking at the GNN article, I assume it says who he is, but I can't read Chinese.
I think kkl97's thoughts make more sense. I can't imagine it cost that much to keep Phuten running, so it's probably closing due to the China news, or a distinct lack of success in Taiwan. A subsidiary based in China would still allow them to serve Taiwan well since they speak the same language (the dominant language anyway).
Does anyone have any clue about Nintendo's success in Taiwan? We hear more about South Korea nowadays, even though I believe Nintendo has officially been in Taiwan for years before they entered the Korean market.
