Topic: Camolot after Mario Golf and Tennis...

My money is on a Gamecube RPG, but not a Golden Sun game. It won't be a traditional RPG either. Perhaps a Tactics RPG or something new altogether...

It´s about time, I´m tired of nintendo sending all the good stuff to GBA.  Well, not ALL the good stuff, but there does seem to be a tilt towards it, when a lot of the stuff *cough*earthbound3*cough* would really help the Cube.

While at E3 I got the opportunity to ask Camelot (not Cumalot) what new projects they had in mind and this is what one of the brothers whispered in my ear:

..."We are trying to devise whether or not a Golf game using Tennis balls would work"...

Joe: Actually, I think it's been more than a year since Camelot said they were working on a Cube RPG. I can't wait for it- Golden Sun 1 and 2 are some of my favorite RPG's ever and Shining Force was a marvel to behold. I hope they give us a completely new RPG. A strategic RPG wouldn't be bad, but I'd like something different (although not quite as traditional as GS).

Doesn't matter to me, I just want it to push the limit of the Gamecubes power like FF: CC and also Tales of Phantasia are currently doing. I want a different style, like instead of doing ultra-deformed or anime, why don't they try another style. I like RPG's that use a stlye i've never seen before, becuase even if it is a "traditional RPG", I still become really interested in it and try to explore everything and do everything. It's like a different world. *continues to eat paint ships*

I've mentioned this numerous times before but I think the ideal name for a Golden Sun game for the Cube is Silver Moon.  It just fits so perfectly and sounds pretty cool.  Plus with a different name it can be a spinoff instead of a direct sequel.

The fact that Nintendo has them working on a Mario Golf and Tennis game instead of an RPG is quite irritating.  Mario Golf and Mario Tennis on the N64 didn't need sequels and I can't think of anyone who even wanted one.  Meanwhile the Gamecube has very few RPGs and Nintendo already has a successful RPG series on the GBA.  Yet instead of having Camelot work on a potential system selling RPG (with a possible strong brand name in the Golden Sun series) they have then working on "yet another Mario game".  I think that sums up Nintendo's problems RIGHT THERE.

Anyway I hope Camelot is working on an RPG but who knows if they'll even have time to make such a game on the Cube.  If Nintendo follows through with their plans of releasing their next console in 2005 to match Sony will Camelot even have enough time to make an RPG for the Cube?  They haven't even released a Gamecube title yet.

I have to agree with Ian Sane, I don't think Camelot can get the game out before the Cube is finished.  For that matter, has anyone seen any recent mention of this game?  I don't remember Camelot discussing it since Mario Tennis and Golf were announced, but if someone has a link that can prove me wrong, please share.

As for Mario Tennis and Mario Golf, I think Nintendo is going with it's strengths.  The Mario games are huge in Japan (the GameCube came within 1000 units of the PS2 during one week shortly after Mario Party 4 was released) and even if Camelot made a great RPG for the GameCube, it would still be competing against dozens of RPGs on the PS2.  Still, I have to agree that I'd like a new RPG more than Mario Golf.

I wanted a sequel and I'm sure there are millions more like me.
Don't assume that just because you don't want the games that no one does.
You probably didn't want a Mario Party 4 either but it was still a HUGE hit and caused a notable surge of hardware sales in Japan. The game actually had more staying-power than Wind Waker over there.

You can't assume Nintendo has them working on the Mario titles "instead" of an RPG. It's possible (IMO probable) Camelot is working on all three.
Mario Tennis and Golf are just as capable (probably more so) of being system-sellers as an RPG too. The N64 titles were huge hits and Nintendo's 4P party-games have been its best link to casual gamers (and the entire Japanese gaming market) for years now. I think the problem with the Gamecube so far is Nintendo has relied too heavily on 1P games like Mario Sunshine, Metroid Prime, and Wind Waker. Multiplayer titles are what Nintendo needs to really improve consoles sales.
I agree that the Gamecube needs to win over the RPG audience too but it does have an exclusive Final Fantasy title for that. And who knows what else could be in development. There could be a Mother or Fire Emblem Gamecube title in development. Maybe Nintendo has something going on with Enix too. It's practically the only top-developer Nintendo doesn't (as far as we know) have some joint-venture project with at the moment. Nintendo isn't stupid. It knows it needs RPGs and I'm sure it's doing everything in its power to get them.

If Camelot's RPG has really been in development as long as rumored, it will easily make it out in time.
I doubt Nintendo's next console will be out in 2005 anyway. Sony's either. I think MS might release its console that soon but, if it does, it will just end up being the next Dreamcast.
I'm confident the next generation of consoles won't really start until 2006 and there are still many Gamecube titles that haven't even be revealed yet that will make it out while the console is still very much alive.

Well, I don't know about ya'll but, I just want my Mario Tennis, that was some of the best multiplayer fun ever on N64.
