Hopefully, we get release dates. I selfishly wish Nintendo waited until Monday to announce this Nintendo Direct. It would have made the wait easier. Excite get.

The coolest thing in the world would be if they said in the Direct, "Super Smash Bros U will be avaliable today!"
How could they logistically pull this off? I don't know unless it was eShop exclusive for a week or so like Wind Waker HD was.

Nintendo's not going to stealth release their biggest title on a Tuesday afternoon in April via only the eShop. This game deserves an actual marketing campaign.

Hrm. This is theoretically pretty far out for a direct if the game is releasing in the fall. And presumably they'd wait til E3 to drop any big character bombs. Maybe that old rumor of both Mario Kart and Smash coming out in the same time frame has some merit to it . . .

Smash could possibly be a summer release.  That would make sense, given the timing.  But I'm still thinking fall.  This Nintendo Direct could focus on "technical features" (item customization, game modes, etc) and leave any major, remaining character reveals for E3.

I guess I don't see why they'd do a full direct ahead of Mario Kart just to show off some modes and stuff, unless there's something really newsworthy, which I don't even know what that could be, unless it's some kind of custom character moveset thing with Mii. Could be just a veteran confirmation dump, I guess, if there's a dearth of any general Nintendo news this month. I'm assuming they'll be a Mario Kart focused direct this time in May.

I've got a feeling this is partially to announce an August release. And if so, the bigger significance of that would be something big coming during the holiday window instead of Smashtober holding through Christmas. Zelda Q4!

I think that showing off a number of characters (maybe two returning, one new), plus talking about the games would be a worthy Nintendo Direct.  I mean, Smash Bros is Smash Bros, but we still don't know that much about the games in terms of modes.

It's already got more press than any other Wii U game. Look at how much 3D World got. It they announced it's coming next week on Wii U would you go out and buy it? I would. The gaming world would explode and for weeks it'd be the only game anyone talked about.
They could start a big TV/internet/movie ad campaign right after the Direct so that EVERYONE knew it is coming next weekend. It would be HUGE

Everyone on these forums would more likely than not buy the game immediately, but that doesn't mean a stealth release is a good idea.  To ensure solid sales, especially early on, you gotta build that hype machine, get people talking about the game, make sure it tops the charts.

WAHAHOOO!!!  ;D

I hope we get a good long look at Pyrosphere! I'm just praying no stage hazard Ridley shows up or he gets revealed all together!

I expect 3 veterans. 1 new comer trailer. Game modes, like free for all, online etc. 1 other newcomer or a confirmation that many characters get alternate looks as a closing statement/trailer.

And before anyone jumps on me about Ridley being too big I've got proof he's not!

See?!

I don't think I'll ever buy another Smash game. I owned Melee and bought Brawl, but never really got much out of them. I appreciate the fan service but the actual game part has never appealed to me. I don't enjoy Kirby platformers, I don't enjoy Smash, and I don't enjoy Uprising. I guess I just don't appreciate Sakurai as a designer.

You are correct though. Nintendo need to build the hype around Smash, not so much to ensure solid sales for the game itself, but rather to push sales of Wii U. If Smash and Mario Kart can't get it done, then nothing will.

I am kind of with you, I only had the first two, N64 and Melee and that was enough for me. Brawl was a rental and I got all I needed out of it that weekend. I think the fact these games keep getting made is part of what is wrong with Nintendo, it's all fan service lately but they stopped trying to get the stuff out we keep begging for.

Also I agree if this game can't move systems nothing can, but I lean towards nothing can at this point because Brawl didn't sell me on a Wii, that was built in, Melee didn't sell me on a Game Cube the N64 did that, so far nothing has sold me on Wii U and this isn't going to do the trick and I know I am not alone in this. Mario Kart is another one I lost interest in, Double Dash was the last console one I played and that was not my favorite. I know there is an audience for these games but I think many of them have moved on, so this could just be signs of Nintendo knowing they are done for.

As for a surprise release six months early goes, ask Sega how well that one works. If they did that then the comparisons to Nintendo being in Sega's shoes would never stop, so no a surprise out of the blue release would be a desperate move that only seals their fate.

The only way a Smash Bros. game will get me back is if they do another single player campaign like Melee had but cater it to each character, and again that only worked because there were too few full games on the Game Cube so it was for many characters the best we could get.

Trying to be a better person, honest.

Whatever things they end up announcing, one of them had better be improved online connection. Seriously, Brawl's online was a slideshow sometimes.

A nintendo fan and a marvel movie fan? In a just society we would be the best of friends but you went and said making a new Smash is whats wrong with Nintendo?! How dare you?!

No one makes games like Smash Bros that have caught on. Not Playstation All Stars, Jump Super Stars, Ninja Turtles, or that vapor ware Microsoft Smash. With so much fan service in a single title that celebrates all things Nintendo only once a generation is blasted blessing! It's style of gameplay is basically no where else to be found, it comes once a generation and it's part of Nintendo's problem...

You go and not like Smash Bros, thats fine, but don't come in here saying it's part of the problem. If I saw you in real life i'd give you the frowning of a life time!!! The one fighting game Nintendo makes and you don't want them to make it. You are a villain and a knave.

It does seem a bit odd that they would host this now if the game's release is still a ways off. It makes me wonder if the release is actually a lot sooner than I thought, or if there's so much content in the game that they have something major to show off without showing everything in the game. Though I guess the Wii U needs hype, so this could just be something more simplistic to fill a time where they have otherwise nothing to talk about.

If Nintendo is Smart they'll do a system bundle that includes Smash and the Wii U console.

This will not happen.
