Author Topic: nintendo to acquire 2 major developers??? (Read 8842 times)

I was at gamecubenetwork.com a few days ago and they had a news topic stating that a japanese gaming mag named gamelabo reported hearin a rumor that nintendo has acquired to major developers. It then goes on to say that the mag is somewhat credible with some of its predictions on the past. Visit the site and see the complete post which was posted at 6-17 so if it aint showin up in the main page just go through the archive. I dont know if there was already a post in this forum made on this but I dont remember seein any. What do you people think bout this rumor? Hopefully rick or anyone has heard somethin and can shed a lil light on the issue. I for one hope its true and if it is, I wouldnt be suprised if capcom was on of the major developers. As for the second major developer I have no idea, maybe namco

lol. Nintendo has let capcom and namco both work on their own franchises like star fox and zelda, maybe they been lettin them get the feel for workin under nintendo's wing lol. Its all wishful thinkin but I can always dream. Hopefully the rumor turns out true.

Ok, in all seriousness, this magazine does have a good reputation, they predicted the GBA:SP and numerous other stuff they were right about in the end. IF Nintendo were buying two major developers, my two guesses would be Criterion and Free Radical.

Free Radical? Aren't they in league with Eidos?

My guess for one would be Zoonami.
I don't know about Criterion though, but they would definitely give Nintendo a boost in racing games.

Imagine they bought Criterion, every XBox/PS2 guy would go:
"Aww nuts. Even though you guys get Burnout 3, I think Burnout 2 is still better. Burnout 3 sux anyway!"
and if Nintendo didn't buy them:
"Burnout 3 is soo cool. BUt it's MUCH better on PS2/Xbox."

Megaton was a sorry excuse for a rumor that got blown WAY out of proportion, and eventually turned out to be nothing at all. If you ask me, it should be a banned word on this forum. We should just call it the "M" word.

However if the old "Nintendo to buy Capcom and Sega" idea is returning, I would be all for it. It would also be great for gamers. Three power house companies under one roof. Wow!

I have found out personally that their is no love between Sega (especially Sonic Team) and $ony.

Actually, the rumor is that it is only Sonic team that is like that, let's not generalize here. And let's be serious, the video game industry is just that, an industry, maybe some systems are easier to program for but this is not kindergarten, Sega, as well as it's in-house developer Sonic Team, wants money and will make games for systems where their games sell. And for Sonic Team that system happens to be GameCube.

Given the history in the last two years of Sega and Capcom I have to agree that
those just might be the companies Nintendo may acquire.

Capcom, with the Resident Evil producer who despises the Playstation 2, and the handful
of exclusive games on the way for the GC from Capcom, and their work with the GBA and GB Zelda's
proves to be a likely adversary for the big |\|.

Then there is Sega, who has been in and out of two different mergers in the last year...obviously remotely interested in merging with someone maybe more...,
and their partnership on the Triforce Arcade and their work on F-Zero GX is even more
reason.

I personally think Nintendo would gain the most if it bought Rockstar and Konami. Of course, even I know that's impossible. Both companies have ties with Sony and Rockstar won't become system exclusive again since it knows it can make mountains of money off of GTA. Still, it's nice to dream...
