Do you think EA are finally up to the challenge to compliment a long-awaited sequel to a Rare game or are EA just cashing in on the liscense name?

This whole "Official Goldeneye sequel" nonsense doesn't really mean anything.  The next Bond game will be the same okay-but-not-as-good-as-Goldeneye game that EA always makes.  People are just starting to realize that EA can't top an N64 game from 1997 so EA is doing this Goldeneye 2 thing to respark interest.  Odds are it will the same game but EA is just hoping that by directly tying the next game with Goldeneye that enough people will be fooled into buying the game before they realize that nothing has really changed or improved.

EA will NEVER be able to match Goldeneye because their whole business strategy revolves around selling games by using popular licenses or sports instead of making quality titles.

Goldeneye is one of those Rare instances where all the parts come together and adds up to a greater whole.  It is kinda like when a smurf is born its cool but it only happens once in a blue moon.

Goldeneye is a supa sweet game and will stand the test of time.

For EA to pull off another Goldeneye would be nothing short of a miracle.  While the Bond license games have been good, personally I could not get into any of them, they all have lacked the magic of Goldeneye.  EA would need a stronger development team and less big company profit driven attitude to even come close.

BTW Timesplitters is awesome for multiplayer.  You should get that game well ahead of any EA offering.

If the other part of the rumor is true, that Free Radical (made up of people who worked on the original Goldeneye and Time Splitters) is working on it then it could be very good.

IMO, one of the reasons that Goldeneye worked as an FPS is that they broke from what the Bond character is about in the first place.  Sure, the game followed the storyline of the film, and copied the locations, but it jettisoned all of the gadgets and vehicles (minus the tank level), choosing to focus soley on the "run and gun" game.  The EA games have brought the gadgets and vehicles back into the mix, but they haven't been all that fun, except for the driving levels in Nightfire.  Goldeneye was an awesome game, but it succeeded because it wasn't true to the Bond character (of course the recent movies haven't been all that "true" either).

I'm actually looking forward to the other Bond game in development, the one that's supposed to be third person only.  If they can do a Splinter Cell-style adventure game that has exotic locals (especially outdoor locations), then that would be the "purist's" Bond game.

You are totally right.  That style would open up more of the spying and sneaking possibilities.  I am not sure it would make a better game than Goldeneye.  But, could as you say be the purists Bond.

Do you know whe is developing this?  I have not heard anything about it.

Here is the link to the Gamespot page on it.  http://www.gamespot.com/gamecube/action/007nothing/index.html

It's called 007: Everything or Nothing.  Unfortunatly, they've only got a single screenshot of the game, but it shows Bond taking out a guy, almost Sam Fisher-style.

i think 007: everything or nothing is not the new "goldeneye 2" rumor that has been going around
everything or nothing is a 3rd person game for the whole game
if they were going to make a goldeneye sequal then they should at least keep the same type of game for it (first person shooter)
i call the big one bitey.

I agree.  That was actually my first thought when I heard the rumor, that EON was Goldeneye 2.  But you're right.  Any sequal to Goldeneye would be an FPS, plus I'm sure that EA would let everyone know what it was, down to putting "Golden" and/or "Eye" somewhere in the title.  Plus, I'm sure that such a game would try to continue the story from the movie/game.

EDIT:  I just noticed that the acronym for Everything or Nothing is EON, which is also the name of the production company that makes the Bond films.  Just sharing the stupid trivia that I've got crammed into my head.

Evilnate-

That is the EA game.  I thought you meant there was another bond game, I am so confused.

----------------------------------------

It would be hard for someone to call their game the succesor to Goldeneye 2 if it is in third person.  You are getting into apples and oranges territory then.

If you want the closest thing to having Goldeneye on the GC get Timesplitters 2 it was made by some of the same members that did the original Goldeneye.

As for this EA offering, I will have to wait and see.  Hopefully they do a good job, but I am not holding my breath.

EON is the next Bond game, but it's not the rumored Goldeneye sequel.

I heard that Nintendo does no longer own Bond licenses because they didint re new their contract and now EA owns all Bond licenses so if this true theres a chance this will be a Multiplatform. If im wrong then but if im right

But anyway i think EA is gonna screw it up. Most likely its just another crappy bomd game with nothing to do with Golden Eye except the name.

Unfortunately, the next Bond game has taken a cue from Tomb Raider and has gone third person.  I sampled it at this years E3 and all I can say is that it was terrible.  *sigh*  Another GoldenEye may never come again.

The real genius behind Goldeneye was not the ultra-crappy band of losers known as "free radical."  They were actually the cast offs from the GoldenEye project.  The real genius now has his own company, sponsered by Nintendo, and is hard at work on Nintendo's "Game Zero Project."  Does anyone know this guys name?

Could it be Martin Hollis?

And developer Zoonami?

Game Zero is rumored to be on the next generation Cube.  Some kind of Sci Fi action/adventure game.

Dude, where have you been?
EA's had the Bond license for quite some time. The past two Bond games have been multi-platform.

I'm not going to get excited over this, yet I'm not going to bag it. EA do have some talent, and they're proven that they can improve. NightFire was much better than Agent Under Fire or The World Is Not Enough (eugh)
