i just bought a Master System!
« on: June 13, 2003, 08:07:05 PM »
i sure did, from a pawn shop with 6 games (and sonic built into the console) for $20 hehhe its fun in a crappy sort of way. given its age its not exactly easy to find game reveiws for it, so could someone direct me to some good games for it? i want Phantsy star (as recomended by some guy on the net) but other than that i dont really know what games to hunt down off ebay for it. also if your going to suggest some games could you tell me a bit about them rather than just say "sonic" for example, cause that doesn't really help me ;P also check my sig (planet piac's games) to see the ones i allready have.

Well you could have saved your cash and just gotten PSO collection on the GBA (I believe it's 1-3 or maybe 2-4).

You should have gotten a genesis, thats were the real SEGA love is. Also the best sports games were for the genesis like EA NHL '94, witch is the best thing EA will ever do.

I had a Master System but it broke and threw it out.  I kept the games though and still able to play them on my Game Gear.  Alter Beast and Super Hang On still my favorite games on the system.

'Super Hang On' was never a SMS game, it was on the Amiga, C64, arcade and Genesis. There was 'Hang On' for the SMS, a port of the 1985 arcade game. Super Hang On was the sequel.

Sonic 2 is a really good game. Its completely different from the Mega Drive version, and (from what I can remember) offers a decent challenge but little replay value. It can take a while to get used to the momentum/jumping system, but once you do, you can fly through the levels (my record for the first level is 16 seconds). If you have played the Mega Drive version, the graphics and momentum/jumping system might disappoint you, in the same way that someone who has played Wind Waker might find OoT's controls awkward and clumsy. The last thing is that you can't play as tails at all, but its no big loss anyway. I would highly recommend this game.

The other game I remember standing out is Alex the Kid in Wonderland. This a platform with RPG elements added to it. It has quite a high difficulty level, and the lack of a save feature often makes this quite frustrating. The music is well composed, and very catchy, but the sound effects are terrible. The last thing worthy of note is the boss battles involve having a rock, paper, scissors match with game characters. This is completely pointless, as its just trial and error to see what combinations the different characters use, then writing them down somewhere so you don't forget them. I'd say this game was very good, but more likely to be out-dated than Sonic 2.

I guess if you are unable to play the REAL sports the games will appear boring.

Glad I dont have that problem.

CubedCanuck does have a point to a certain extent.   Most of my friends who couldn't care less about real sports will hardly ever play sports games, while the friends that do enjoy real sports play sports games all the time.  Now, these are not hard and fast rules mind you, but there is some truth to it. I think it depends where you live as well.

As for games for your Master System...was Miracle Warriors on the Master system, or was that Genisis?  I seem to remember liking it, but it was so long ago...

Teddy Boy! Get teh Teddy Boy! Classic gaming!
You're a little kid, in very plain looking worlds, shooting ninjas and flying bugs that come out of dice. I kid you not. It's awesome fun.

'The Ninja' - Pretty much a rip off of the old Commando game that was on the Amiga and Atari, but with NINJAS! Lots of fun. Very hard.

'Fantasy Zone' - It's an R-Type sorta game, but on acid. Some seriously trippy looking levels, catchy music, DEMENTED bosses and the ability to go shooting for parts! Yay!

'Alex Kidd in High Tech World' - A seriously long game. Need the thinking cap for it, too. RPG/Platform/Adventure. The WHOLE objective is to get Alex to the arcade so he can play 'SAAAAAAAAGGAAAA'S' newest game; Out Run!

'Bubble Bobble' - Not exclusive, but the MS version was heaps good

'Sonic Chaos' - Yay, it's classic Sonic gaming. Watch the MS try and do silicon graphics!

'Wonderboy' - It's a MUST. A CLASSIC! And it inspired Hudson Soft to rip the game off and create Adventure Island for the NES...

'Wonderboy in Monster Land' - Nothing like the original Wonderboy. This one has an RPG slant to it. But it's not overhead view

'Golden Axe' - Because it's Golden Axe!

'Double Dragon' - This conversion was done by Sega themselves, it's very different to the NES/SNES versions. Good fun.

'Power Strike/II' - Yeah, a heaps cool arcade shooter!

'Enduro Racer' - Fun bike racing game. You could get run over by maniac cars! =O

I'll add more games as I remember them

Do you have to come to every thread and say something negative about Nintendo or Nintendo fans, then never come back to it, or never respond to anyone's critisism of your flawed arguments because you have nothing to defend yourself with without getting owned?

EDIT: Oh yeah! Golden Axe, that game owned! I used to have Golden Axe and Golden axe 2, i played them all the time.

I dont, in fact I hardly post at all.
As for saying negative things, I say only what I feel is warrented, and most of what I say isnt negative as much as it is percieved to be by people who refuse to look at things from outside the Nintendo box.

As for sports games being boring, I simply disagree. The games themselves are NOT boring, instead the player may get bored playing them as a result of the game not being in his/her field of interest.
My point was, that people who play a lot of sports in real life will gravitate more towards sports games on consoles, much more so than people who dont like the real thing.
The video version can offer the same feeling of competition that the real games will provide, minus the skinned knees and deep bruising, as well as giving the player a chance to play at a level they can only dream of in real life.
So there you have it.

God I feel so owned, LMAO.

Wonder boy?  JesOs i used to love that game.  You must get it!

Take it easy on CUBEDCANUCK, everyone has differing opinions and he is entitled to have one as well.  Why respond so harshly?  It is a forum, after all.

I remember the Value Village in my area used to have tons of Sega Master Sytems... until it burned down.  Seriously.  Anyway I never bought one because I've never been able to find any games for that system and I never felt it was worth it just for the "built-in" game.  Plus Value Village always sells all of the controllers and cables and whatnot seperately so you have to wander all over the store just to find all the parts.

One game I can think of the no one has mentioned is Shinobi.  Back in the day it was the only Sega game at the time that my friends and I really played.  We played it in the arcade though so I imagine the MS version has crappier graphics.

Oh and I think California Games was supposed to be pretty cool with a group of people.

oh yeah, shinobi is at the top of my list, i played that at... some guys house cant remmeber who (wasn't a friend at any rate) and it was awsome

i really need a new controller too, the a/start button its wacky, it goes in too far or something and its hella not responsive, even for an old school controller, the B button by comparison is much better
