Not sure that obsequious is the word I would choose - the documentary didn't do anything to hide the various neuroses and/or personality disorders these people suffer from.
It's unfortunate that the film didn't deal with failed releases, focusing only on success stories either by luck or design. But maybe that was the point. And I give it props for only introducing narrative through interviews and editing. I've watched too many narration-heavy documentaries lately where the agendas being pushed are a little bit too forceful.
Also, Guthrie's soundtrack was fantastic. Unsurprisingly.
