Nintendo Free Radio 23: The 0.1 Percent

STILL not as delayed as Rayman Legends was!
Download
There are three metaphysical certainties in gaming: Nintendo is doomed, a certain open-world game will get 10s undeservedly and... NFR will eventually release. This time around in New Business, Stephen doubles back to current AGOTY (Austen Game of the Year) Tomb Raider, and may not be as generous in his ranking of the game at the end of the year. Austen tries his hand at solo co-op in Brothers: A Tale of Two Sons before turning his attention to a couple of under-the-radar platformers, Castle of Illusion HD (PS3 version) and Rayman Legends (Vita). Donald can indeed dig it sucka, as he proves with the 3DS's newest indie megahit SteamWorld Dig, but saves his effusive praise for a somewhat larger purchase... and apparently triggered Sony to go completely insane the night after the recording. (We'll talk about those announcements on the next show. Also, you're welcome.)

Now Posted has updates on the unnecessary search for forum replacements, followed by the shortest Whatcha Watchin' in quite a while. Stephen revisits the dead-before-its-time Alphas, Donald continues the theme of underground hits with Gurren Lagann, and Austen sticks around for the final act of Inuyasha. Yeah, that's it.

Since Nintendo decided to announce a bunch of stuff right after 22 recorded, we had to cover it - and unlike other outlets, we don't bury the lede. The Feature discussion covers the WiiU price drop in somewhat heavy detail, with a side of 2DS and some PS4/Xbone chasers. Finally, the Mushrooms have the very rare Double Mushroom, the trouble with Kickstarters and A NEW CAR~!

I saw that Giant Bomb video with them failing to beat that boss. And honestly it didn't seemed like it was their fault. That delay between pressing jump button and actual jump was noticeable even from the video...

On Rayman Legends: i already bought Wii U port but it's taking a lot time to get to me, so this morning i got the the Xbox port for free all thanks to the great people of Serbia Bosnia. Should be done downloading when i come back. I really wanted to try out the replacement control scheme for Murphy levels that they did for Xbox and PS3 ports. That honestly looked very interesting -- especially with rhythm gameplay element. I will still probably play the game properly on Wii U whenever i get it.

On Challenges -- the fact they're so hard, is a good thing! Because it is, you know, -- challenge. As i said many times, Challenges also have ghosts and they are godsend to learn game's mechanics -- you just watch what other, more successful guys are doing. I played Challenges App on Wii U for qutie a while and enjoyed it quite a lot, never got Diamond but was getting Golds a few times. One of my Wii U "friends" did had a few diamonds.

Also, i had to look up what "bury the lede" means.

About 1hr 05 before the end of the episode you're talking about Inuyasha and "big criticism of the show", then it cuts, then you're talking about xbox one exclusivity.

Weird. I've heard reports of skipping in other sections as well, but I haven't been able to replicate the issue on either my laptop or my phone. All I can suggest right now until we can nail down what's going on is to redownload the file and perhaps reboot your device.

And Azeke, my issue with the Challenges isn't that they exist, but that Ubisoft put a downright evil trophy on them that requires you to finish Top 1% in the entire world. That's right up there with that legendary Fight Night Round 4 PS3 Trophy where you had to be #1 in the entire world Online. It's just so...unnecessary.  As for watching the ghosts, that's how I got as high as Gold Ranking on most of the challenges. I just can't shave off that extra second or two that makes the difference between 80th in an event and 3rd.

As for Castle of Illusion HD, I never had an issue with the jumping. Even the Jack in the Box boss was all about judging the timing on that punch, which I nailed by my 3rd attempt at it.

"Trophy" as an achievement on PS3?..

You should get a one diamond trophy to get it, right? Honestly, that doesn't sound all that unreasonable. You just have to play a lot and be good.

Achievements ARE meant to be hard to get, or else they simply lose their value. That's why i hate lazy achievements like Ubisoft often does with their games, like "complete level 1!", "complete level 2!", "complete level x!". You shouldn't get them simply for progressing through story, that way you're cheapening them and lessen the entire point of going out of your way to get them.

I was getting "achievements" like these yesterday when i was playing Legends on Xbox, many Assasin Creed games have "achievements" like these. So pointless.

Most Nintendo games lately have better achievements than Ubisoft's and that's a stunning realization considering they don't have system wide support for them.

I think the progress style achievements are fine as long as their the lowest level.  A way to show progress to other players.

Indeed. Aside from "beat the game" achievements (which tend to be Silver Trophies on PS3), I think the only game I've seen where progression wasn't restricted to bronze trophies was Terminator Salvation (where each level was a Gold).

The only people that trophy should bother are trophy whores like you broodwars. You're a dirty slut and you should be ashamed.

I regret NOTHING!  ;)   Besides, I can assure you there are a LOT worse trophy whores than me out there. I at least have my limits: I don't play the likes of Hanna Montana and Megamind for the easy Platinums. As I saw at Sony's recent trophy auction thing, my list doesn't even compare to the real freaks.
