Koichi Hayashida, the director of Super Mario 3D World, revealed to Polygon that Princess Peach was not originally planned to be a part of the game.

Hayashida acknowledged the fact that Peach has not been playable in main line Mario games since the American version of Super Mario Bros. 2, but that Producer Yoshiaki Koizumi suggested she be included this time around. Hayashida confessed that he thought it would be nice to play as a female in a Mario game after all these years of representing male characters.

For his part, Koizumi wanted Princess Peach back because "she adds a lot to the sense of competition when you get in multiplayer" when players choose different characters to play based on their preferences and playstyles. Koizumi also added that he felt Peach is "really fun to play as."

It's honestly silly that it's taken this long.  The multi-colored Toads never made sense to me.  It's not like there's a lack of characters to choose from, even if it wasn't Princess Peach.

I would have been more than happy to get Daisy if Nintendo needed Peach to get rescued. I like the throwback to Super Mario Bros. 2. I think I mentioned this in another thread. Maybe they're rescuing Daisy from Wart.

how the heck is Waluigi bad character design he was meant to look like sinister and twisted bizzaro luigi and Daisy a lazy character design and what does that say about Rosalina she looks exactly like Peach only with different hair Daisy has different facial features I swear why does everyone try to keep Daisy and Rosalina in Peach's shadow Daisy has more personality than the whole Mario cast combined and Rosalina has a great backstory and amazing abilities what so great about Peach don't get me wrong I like her but she is generic damsel in distress and a bland Disney Princess mary sue character I just say Nintendo are too lazy to come up with ideas for these 3 unused neglected characters.

I know not a lot of people are old timers but, Daisy is pretty much the Mascot of these forums have been for a long time.

Also are we sure it didn't go more like this.  "We're putting a Cat Suit into the game.  We're putting Princess in the game to Wear the Cat Suit.  *We Can't make a power for 1 Character Sir.*  Give them all Cat Suits then but make Peaches different."

I had no idea that so many people here were Daisy fans. I always picked Daisy because no one ever picked Daisy when I played Mario Kart with friends.

And if Daisy is bashed for lazy character design, Luigi should be as well (which would be nonsense).

Daisy is a popular character online in Mario Kart Wii because she is the statistically best middle-weight character.

I think Daisy gained popularity on this board partially because she's a more obscure character.  She's not typically on the box art, she's not one of the main characters who shows up in every game.  You've got to be somewhat knowledgable of the Mario series to really know who she is.  In that sense she's a good barometer of how "hip" you are to Nintendo, which is perfect for a Nintendo fan site.

I also think there is a certain nature in a lot of people to be contrarian at times to feel independent.  So since Nintendo focuses on Peach and she's clearly more popular and well-known with the general public, Daisy's the obvious choice to not feel like you're just following the crowd.  But then you're not the only one who thought of that so you become the non-conformist that acts like the other non-conformists.  Preferring Daisy is the cliche for backing a "unique" character.  Now that's irony.

Daisy is pretty well known now and people still like her so I don't know if the non-conformist thing holds water. They would have moved on to different character. I used to pick Daisy because she was like the kid who always got picked last in gym class. As silly as this sounds, I kind of felt bad that no one ever picked her.

I used to pick Peach for no other reason than she was the best character from Super Mario Bros. 2 which didn't matter in Mario Kart, but whatever! I grew tired of Peach because she's portrayed so inconsistently. Some games she's kicking ass then the next she's helpless and annoying. Daisy kind of came back at the right time. Her near clean slate let me fill in the blanks of her character. I tend to imagine Daisy as the BAMF version of Peach who hover jumps, throws Psych-Bombs, and bashes people with her crown... except all the time. And if you compare personalities, it's no contest. Daisy wins. That said, it'll break my heart a little if she needs to be rescued in Super Mario 3D World.

Also, Daisy's "Aw, brutal!" from Mario Kart Double Dash is the second best sound clip of in the Mario Kart series. Only Mario's getting attacked yelp from Mario Kart DS is better.

I did some sleuthing and I found sound clips for almost every Mario Kart except Double Dash. There was one Double Dash youtube video that had the Daisy quote somewhere in the middle, but the quality was pretty terrible. Nintendo reuses a lot of the sound clips, but Daisy's "Aw, brutal!" wasn't brought back. I did find the Mario one, but I kind of feel like it sounds better in the game because you only hear the first part while you drive past.
