Hey, I was wondering what you all would think if Nintendo took realistic graphics to create a true Zelda RPG. Shiggy talked about how the realistic graphics didn't work with the adventure style, but I believe they would be awesome for an RPG that could rival the likes of Final Fantasy. What do you all think?

Miyamoto expressed how he thought the realistic style would not compliment the fantasy adventure universe of the game, not the adventure genre.  therefore, i think it would make no difference what genre the game is, the fantasy component should be perserved.

personally, i would like to see a creative combination between the realistic and cel-shaded vibrance... how? i have no idea

How could it be an RPG? There's only one main character in Zelda and that's Link. Link does everything by himself (well mostly everything)so you aren't going to have a team of 4 going around like most RPGs. It could just be him fighting everyone RPG style but I would rather have it in adventure format.

Now that I think about it, he could team up with the different races like he did Majora's Mask.

I think the world of Zelda could make for a great MMORPG/MMOA/A (action/adventure).  Especially the Wind Waker world... a bunch of boat sailing around :-D except there would have to be bigger islands, cuz interacting with other people on boats would be kind of boring, but it's still a cool picture.  I think it would be cool if the sequel, you know, now that everything is gone except for Outset Island, would take place as an MMORPG, with customisable characters, and the premise basically would be explore and discover a new world, (of course there would be some cool mysterious plot or something).  If it would be an MMORPG, it would have to have experience points, otherwise there's no point to a MMORPG.

Or not...

I'd really like to see an MMORPG take full advantage of how freaking COOL they could make it be.  A gigantic, mysterious, world, some parts sunny with people running everywhere, some parts misty with just you and a few party-members.  Ragnarok Online came close... the IDEA of PSO came pretty close (just watch that opening video... the whole mist and trees thing and the different characters "HUmar... RAbo..." or whatever, coupled with the music, and then that climax at the end only marked by an intense swellling of the strings).

But this was about a Zelda RPG, right?  Yeah, cool idea.

Nintendo did try to make a Zelda Game closer to the RPG genre and people tend not to like that game. (LoZ2)

I'm sure one could make an argument for the RPG-ish feel of some parts of Zelda.  I mean, there's the item collecting, the real-time battle system (it even switches to widescreen--with L-Targeting, of course-- to give a different look to the battles).  I'm not saying it's an outright RPG, but when it comes to drawing lines between game genres who is really the final judge?

Maybe a traditional RPG based in Hyrule would be good, but I think it would lose alot of the key parts of Zelda gameplay if a game in the same vein as current Zelda games (Link goes to save the world etc) was made as a traditional RPG.
