I just hope this is successful so they can move on to an episodic series of Too Human games.

Suffice it to say, this project is going to get sued out of existence either by Activision, Epic Games, or Nintendo. There's a very good chance that Dyack's going to take the money and run. People quit Silicon Knights because they believed Dyack was either incapable or uninterested in making quality games. (Source.)
Your skepticism is understandable and completely justified. However, I doubt Dyack is going to "take the money and run" since he's been trying to make Eternal Darkness 2 for years now and Shadow of the Eternals is essentially what that is. I remember that article you linked. Silicon Knights secretly working on a follow-up to Eternal Darkness is partially why X-Men Destiny sucked so hard.

The trailer attached to this project looks a little too advanced for game from a new developer seeking crowd funding so it's not difficult to imagine where they got the funding for it. I'm not saying that makes everything that happened with X-Men Destiny okay (far from it), but if anyone was willing to take a chance on supporting a project headed by Denis Dyack, this would be the safest one. You could at least count on him to take it seriously.

Still, even as someone who really liked Eternal Darkness, I'd have a hard time contributing to its development due to a variety of factors. Shadow of the Eternals may very well turn out great if it gets made. However, Silicon Knights was never able to keep a deadline even with projects they cared about so I have no reason to believe Precursor Games will either. I'm also skeptical that they would ever complete all 12 episodes. My understanding is that this crowd funding is for the first episode only. Are they hoping each episode is popular enough to fund future episodes? I don't know if the concept it strong enough to be that popular. If your claim to fame is a cult game and you're trying to make something similar, you should probably lower your expectations. Twelve episodes is perhaps too ambitious.

idk if Nintendo would sue SK for this, at this point they would prefer to have the games on their system. They nevwer sued the bible games people. They would sue if it was an xbox or ps3 exclusive though.

I know SK has a sketchy track record outside of ED, which they worked with Nintendo, but this excites me.  ED was awesome and I would much welcome a sequel.  I loved the Gamecube and the Wii was good, but less so than the Gamecube to me.  So if the Wii U misses some of the big games but picks up games like this, I will be excited.  Sales aren't everything.

Watched the trailers and basically it looked and felt like Eternal Darkness.  Actually, it looked like the same basic story even...a book of evil that gets read and lets out horrible monsters that must be stopped throughout time.

In fact, I could see this entire story just being a retelling of the first story.  I mean lets face it.  The first story wasn't truly that deep...it was epic in scope, but was really just several different characters encounters with the same evil.

"As a Canadian taxpayer, I've been burned by this chucklef**k before. If you give him money, you're an idiot."

Yeah, I'm pretty sure he still OWES money to the Canadian government too.  And not to mention the 4.5 million owned to Epic.

Actually, the Canadian goverment owes him money. They gave his company a grant meant to encourage game development, but have still not given all of it to him.

Well if it works good. But the last game that was suppose to be 12 or so episodes in length didn't make it past 3.
Stupidity is lost on my. Then again I'm almost always lost.

Actually, the Canadian goverment owes him money. They gave his company a grant meant to encourage game development, but have still not given all of it to him.

Representatives for the Canadian government claimed that conditions for the grant weren't met, so the money wasn't yet provided.  (In Canada, it's not uncommon for this type of government grant to be based on meeting certain conditions before receiving any of the money - not sure what it's like in other countries.)

Dyack claims that he doesn't know what the government representatives are talking about and any conditions were met.

Who do you want to believe?  After X-Men Destiny, and the resulting fallout, giving benefit of the doubt to Dyack isn't easy...

If it ends up being a better Remake than I am still all for it. If I could I would kickstart my own homage. I would put myself as an environmental artist and director though. My character modeling is not that great. If I was teamed with a group of decent modders and character artist we could make a pretty good game with the source engine.

Rumor: Retro is making the new Eternal Darkness
Fact: Dyack is making his own version
Fact: Eternal Darkness is a ripoff of the C'thulhu Mythos anyways. If they can change all the names of character for that than they can do it for this.
