F-Zero on Euro Wii U VC Being Offered in 60hz
« on: February 20, 2013, 07:18:17 AM »

Hertzgate comes to a quick close.

http://www.nintendoworldreport.com/news/33373

Nintendo of Europe has decided to release the 60hz US-NTSC version of F-Zero. This was announced through a press release earlier today.

The game is part of the Family Computer 30th Anniversary Campaign, which was announced during the Wii U Direct conference in January. Quickly after the presentation, European fans complained about the lack of the inclusion of 50hz in Balloon Fight, which resulted in a long list of comments on Miiverse.

Just as with Balloon Fight, the game is offered for €0.30/£0.30 and supports off-TV Play, saves and a dedicated Miiverse community. Nintendo of America will also offer F-Zero, while NCL will give their fans Fire Emblem: Mystery of the Emblem on Super Famicom.

I always knew this day would come.  ;D

It doesn't make up for the fact that we got screwed as far as Wii VC goes, but hopefully this marks the beginning of the end for the whole 50hz debacle.

In other news, NoA has announced that they're releasing the PAL/50Hz version of F-Zero for American Audiences.

:D

Have they gone back to replace the 50hz version of Balloon Fight with the 60hz version? I haven't heard of anything of the sort so I'm guessing not.

Good on Nintendo of Europe getting the 60hz version of the game out!

I'm glad this is finally happening but I wouldn't go so far as to congratulate Nintendo. It's quite frankly ridiculous that it's taken this long for such an avertible issue to be addressed.

You really bummed me out with that statement, lol. Nintendo are just dumb enough to do something like that.

Yeah, hopefully this is a sign that more games will be offered at 60hz.

With Nintendo's recent epiphany in regard to having options, as evidenced by the button mapping ability, why not include both the American and European version in the download, and let you pick which one you want? It kind of screws over continental Europe in games that are more text-heavy, but it's at least good for UK/Australia and wouldn't require anymore work than they're already doing.

Why even offer a 50 Hz version? It's my understanding that pretty much every TV in Europe made in the last 15 years supports both versions, so no one would really be affected by only having a 60 Hz version.

Why even offer a 50 Hz version?
Because the 50hz versions have added language options, in most cases.

Yeah, as I said it would be fine for UK and Australia, but other countries, even though many people in them speak English, would want the games in their language. Adapting the 50hz games to run in 60hz would presumably take work, as would adding the translations to the 60hz versions, and I don't see Nintendo going to that effort. Including both, though, wouldnt take anymore work than they're already doing to release the game in all regions.
