Yeah, there were a lot of racing games back in the day, but they seem to have fallen out of favor. You do Need For Speed, Forza, or Grant Turismo now.

I've never enjoyed any of the racers you mentioned though :( I felt like I probably needed a steering wheel accessory to control GT because using the PS controller was just unruly. As for NfS, I had one on my Saturn back in the day and the controls weren't as bad, but I wasn't ever that good and something about the graphics gave me a headache at the time. Now that things look super-realistic and I could afford a steering wheel if I so desired, I just don't have the desire to play those games.

EASYCURE: I remember thinking(don't ask me why) this was a blond haired, blue eyed, chiseled athlete. Like he looked like Seigfried before he became Nightmare.

Don't forget about Mario Kart, Burnout, and Ridge Racer!

I think Burnout is dead and Ridge Racer is on hold.

Burnout was absorbed by Need for Speed. The guys who made it got picked up by EA and have done the las two NFS games, with increasing likenesses to Burnout.

I thought Driving Emotion Type-S had the coolest name of any racing game. What we really need though is Super Excite Truck HD for Wii U.

The best racers this generation are Sonic All-Star Racing Transformed and Split/Second. Great tracks, great presentation, and IMO the best variety of experience as well. At any moment in both games, the situation can drastically change in ways that are totally fair (unlike say...Mario Kart).
