But hurry! The sales all end in the first of January!

http://www.nintendoworldreport.com/news/32862

Three Wii U eShop games, Little Inferno, Trine 2: Director's Cut, and Chasing Aurora, are currently on sale on the eShop until early January.

Little Inferno, regularly $14.99, will be $9.99 until January 4; Trine 2, regularly $19.99, will be $15.99 until January 7, and Chasing Aurora, regularly $14.99, will be $7.49 until January 4.

Earlier this week, Wii U eShop developers, including Chasing Aurora developers Broken Rules, lamented how they wanted to discount their games in North America but couldn't for an unknown reason. Apparently that issue has been resolved, as those games are now discounted at the discretion of the game's developers.

Good job Nintendo for allowing developers to discount their software, especially so soon after launch, at their discretion and good on the developers for being aggressive on the eShop with sales. This is how you get customers to come back to your shop and see what's going on. This is how you create impulse buyers. If they keep this up, they will train people to keep coming back for more.

I appreciate games like Little Inferno but I still don't know if I can bring myself to spend even 10$ on for what it's offering...  :(   I might bite the bullet though just to get some more Wii U action. I DON'T KNOW!

Get Little Inferno. Do it.
Its so trippy, you just have to play it. Well you need to try it anyway. I am not sure one "plays" Little Inferno in the way one "plays" other vidya games.

Anyway, its discounted now, its a fair price. Go for it.

Get Little Inferno. Do it.

Or, if you're self assured like me you can determine, based on previews, reviews and videos, that the game isn't for you. Thus allowing you to avoid spending money on something that doesn't look fun (no matter how many people try to tell you it is).

Little Inferno seems more like a toy than a game. Does it have scores and can you die?

Your loss.

The sale price of Little Inferno is what, a couple of coffees to have a trippy, well done experience? You'd spend $10 on a roller coaster  wouldn't ya?

Yes, its not a Meaty Game ExperienceTM but so what?

I buy way too many games, especially eShop games, and I've got $25 in credit just sitting there on my Wii U, and I still can't talk myself into buying Little Inferno, even at that price. It just really doesn't appeal to me.

It just doesn't sound like there's any real gameplay to it. There's some semblance of story there that people seem to like, but I subscribe to the Shigeru Miyamoto school of video game story writing, aka "only as much as is strictly necessary, if not less," so I doubt that would be my cup of tea either.

Do you think that we will ever see major retail games like AC 3, Zombie U, Batman: AC, and Tekken like what we see with these smaller game? Hopefully the discounts will be as generous as those found on Steam.  Do you think that Nintendo could even discount their own games to spur sales once they slow down?

The fact that the digital version of Pilotwings Resort released today sells for $40 seems to indicate that we won't be seeing any discounts on Nintendo games on the eShop.

I do not think that there are many people left who would pay $40 for Pilot Wings Resort. By discounting their games every so often Nintendo could increase sales and profits for games that people would normally pass on due to the high cost of the game.

I'm not arguing that Nintendo shouldn't, or that there's any logical reason why it's a bad idea to drop the prices of games in that kind of a situation. I'm saying it's pretty clear that they've chosen not to.

I think retail CONSOLE games on CONSOLE digital stores are more beholden to brick and mortar retail. This is why you don't see steam like deep discounts on all the console platforms on retail games vs strictly indie digital releases. Steam doesn't care about physical distribution, so they can allow publishers to drop those prices extremely low from time to time where as I've never seen a retail game on a console digital be discounted at all unless its really really old. PSN gets around it by offering games for free through ps+ (although they are mostly first party). Nintendo is getting around it by allowing rebates through points if you buy digital giving you 10% off the price of retail straightway without it expressly being reduced in price on the shop. I think once console makers feel that retail stores don't have them by the balls with physical distribution, you're gonna see parity in sales akin to those on all the other strictly digital platforms (Steam, GOG, Amazon, etc)

Steam does care about physical retail, it's why retail games have to launch at the same time and at the MSRP instead of making use of the benefits of digital distribution like no shipping times.

Little Inferno is one of my favorite things this year, and most people who are like "it's just a toy" and "it's just a physics sandbox" don't actually understand what it is. So, umm, if that's how you view it, you're not actually paying attention. It's not a toy anymore than Telltale's The Walking Dead games are, though if we're going in comparison to those episodes, then yes, maybe it is a little bit too expensive. I still feel totally justified in my $15 purchase, though.

I'll echo the "your loss" to infinity.

If you do understand what the game is (a crazy puzzle game with a weird, intriguing story and dour setting) and it still doesn't interest you, then I can't pretend to totally understand it, but I'll try.

I do understand that, and I still have no interest. I honestly don't care about the story at all, and the puzzle gameplay, from the way I've seen it described, doesn't sound that interesting to me.
