I am going to reread that post one more time and pray to God you did not just say Mario was a kiddy franchise.  You better have meant that it might be perceived as such (by stupid people).

You mean my post?  Yeah I was refering to how most people view him as such.  Personally I like Mario though I do wish Nintendo didn't whore him out to so many games.  There's no reason for there to be a new Mario Party game every year for instance.

Guys?  What's the problem with Nintendo creating some new franchises?  Just curious?

Man, you don't even need mascots anymore.   Sony has climbed to the top of the videogame mountain without them, and X-Box is doing the same.  What you need is fresh, new games that make people say "Wow!  That looks new, cool and fun!  I gotta have that!"  The only game that really does that to me from Nintendo lately is F-Zero GX.

Mascots are nice to have, but no longer necessary.  The gaming industry is so big now, and customers are so savvy, that companies don't need to have recognizable characters to build brand awareness.  In the mid-80's this was necessary because the industry was coming off the Atari 2600 holocaust, but the 2000s are a whole different ballgame.  Everybody knows what videogames are these days.

The gaming industry is a lot like the movie industry now - take Warner Bros. for instance.  It could use Bugs Bunny as a mascot, but it doesn't have to.  Its movies are their own "mascots".  Video games are getting this way too.  People don't necessarily follow consoles any more, they follow game franchises like they do movie franchises.  The platform is really irrelevant.  If Nintendo creates some big franchises that adult gamers will follow religiously, they'll be right back on top.

Mario will always be Nintendo's mascot, but that doesn't mean there needs to be a ton of games w/ him as the central theme, or that they need to push Mario.  Mikey Mouse is Disney's mascot, and always will be, but when was the last time you saw a Mikey Mouse movie?  Disney's been too busy re-inventing themselves with the likes of the Lion King and Toy Story, and having their non-cartoon movies in Touchstone and Mirimax.  I think this is what Nintendo should do.  Keep Mario as the mascot, but reinvent yourself with new franchises and new 1st party devs.

I know I've always wanted an M rated Pokemon just think about it. Pokemon games are incredible the only problem with them is how insanely cute they are. If Gamefreak came out with a new series similar to Pokemon but with darker and cooler looking monsters they'd make millions.

Nintendo should make a really mature RPG.......I mean really mature one. One that shows disgusting scence in detail like -- -- lets say part of the game is to infiltrate this huge building and recover some precious artifact, when suddenly you get cuaght. It turns into an action based battle ala sword of mana and you can cut peoples heads off, burn them, and stuff with your super sadistic powers. Also when people are killed they stay there, even with there burnt or torn up body...they don't dissapear like every RPG on the planet.

I don't know its just an idea off the top of my head, maybe something nuthing on the lines of that, but I still want a very mature RPG with the Nintendo brand seal of quality.

I really don't want a super gory mature game from Ninty...that's just not them anyway.  If anything, I would like to see Mario mature a little bit.  Don't give him big guns or give Peach a skimpy thong, but give him some personality and the environments a little darker(sort of like what Ninty has done to Zelda...Not super mature, but has a dark enough theme to it)

I don't ever want to see blood dripping from a Pokemon's fangs, I don't ever want to see Mario killing hookers, and I don't ever want to see games like that coming from EAD.  Such a time would indicate to me that maybe the Nintendo I know and love is gone forever.

I find the line of thinking of "Oh no! Nintendo is throwing away old characters for new ones!" rather foolish.

When has Nintendo ever really shafted a character? Donkey Kong, missing since the arcade shows up on the SNES. Samus, not seen since the SNES now rejoins us. Even the Ice Climbers showed up in Smash Bros. Not to mention the E-Reader...

As for Pokemon, it's their biggest cash cow, and I have no doubt they'll continue to use it. Just not as much, though. You can't argue they've been milking Pokemon WAY too much, causing the hysteria to nearly die in North America. And Mario... his luck luster sales have shown he's getting old, and Nintendo can't afford to depend on him as much as they used to. He'll have his games, though. Mario still commands a respectable following, and it would be dumb to throw him out.

Personally, I want to see something new, anyways. There have been one too many games featuring Mario characters. A little variety goes a long way.

"And Mario... his luck luster sales have shown he's getting old"

I don't think it's fair to say Mario's sales have become lackluster. Mario Sunshine's sales may have been lackluster by Mario standards but it still sold really well by normal game standards and is one of Gamecube's best-selling games. The game didn't sell as strongly as expected for a variety of reasons, and I don't think diminishing popularity of the mascot was one of them.
Just look at the Mario Advance titles. They've been some of the GBA's strongest sellers.

"You can't argue they've been milking Pokemon WAY too much, causing the hysteria to nearly die in North America."

The Pokemon hysteria would have died out no matter what. The games still sold really well, though. Most of the Pokemon hysteria was a result of the cartoon, the merchandise, cards, etc... and not the games anyway. The Pokemon fad died out like all fads too but, fortunately, there are still millions who appreciate the games.

Yeah. My cousins (one is 11, the others are 18 and 19) all like Harry Potter. The 11 year old only like Pokemon cause it was Popular. The fact that he's a rich bugger (his dad pisses me off) means that he can afford to keep up with the Joneses when it comes to merchandise. He didn't play the games cause, well, he was never good at it. So now he disses Pokemon, and my cousins actively encourage, which is really stupid of them. They thing Potter is a godsend, and they think it's cool how the author is ricer than the Queen and stuff.
I tell them that the games are very good, and they are what started the hype in the first place. They just go "you can't hack it that Pokemon is dead". Well, I was never a fan to begin with. The show just keeps me occupied in the mornings before Uni.

I went to the shops the the other day, and spent two hours on the GBA playing Ruby. MY back was hunched over, and I didn't get off until the line of kids reached 10 or so. Just to build a little attention.

Hehe, sorry for the subject change there. Just had to get that off my chest.

I heard that Riqa is now known as Rogue Ops and it comes out for all systems this fall.

Riqa is NOT Rogue Ops.  Riqa was cancelled, and Rogue Ops is a completely different game.  In fact, if you knew where Rogue Ops originally came from, you'd understand why I have to laugh at the suggestion that it was previously Riqa.

The only thing the two projects share is the developer ... Bits Studios.  I've played Rogue Ops, and it doesn't play anything like Riqa did.

My sister's room is filled with Harry Potter crap, and taking a leaf out of my book, she even got the Philosopher's Stone pop-out stand!
And she's 16.

I dislike how the author says she writes the books for children, then turns around rolls in her money that she made from the video games, movies, etc.

Ok i like harry potter as much as the next guy( i read them like 5 times but the movies dont do them justice) but i think we should stick to the topic here.  Nintendo can make a whole ton of cash with there current big 3(mario,metroid,and zelda) but they shouldnt start pumping games out there just to have games out there.  They should take time and create great games (so stop complaing about 128 not being at E3).  But theres a big gap in between these games, and they cant live entirley in the past.  So with that said they must introduce some new games.  But nothing drastic maybe just 1 a year for like 3 or 4 years.  They did good with pikmin and animal crossing but some people are to stubborn and stupid to keep an open mind and try new games and give them a fair shot.

I think Geist has huge potential to be a big franchise, just as long as the game is really good of course. And also, I think Nintendo are gonna start pimping Captain Falcon, just look at the Fzero boxart. Ive noticed that most Nintendo first party games have the respective mascots on thier boxes. Metroid Prime has a giant Samus on the front cover, Super Mario Sunshine has Mario, Wario World has wario etc. and now Fzero has Captain Falcon on the front of the box. Just an observation...
