Resident Evil 4...Going to the next level?

"You'll pee your pants"

Ah, what  awonderful phrase; hopefully, it doesn't come true for me.

To my point, I think this Resident Evil will be the mature kick that Nintendo needs. It seems a lot like Silent Hill. The thing I like most is the flashlight effect (for anyone who didn't see the RE4 video in E3. When Leon aims, he crosses over a flash light, which releases a blue hue). This will add a whole new dimension to the game because now you can have hidden creatures right in front of you without knowing it, if you aren't using the flash light. Then BAM, you are being sucked on the neck by a zombie. I also think this is a great chance for Capcom to make the control style almost perfect because the game is going to be in full motion. Now, we can finally see a stop from the bickering of all the RE fans that the control scheme sucks (Even though I thought it was perfect). In addition, I'm extatic that Leon is back. RE 2 was the game that got me into the series, and Leon was the character that was my most favorite. Now he is back and ready to kick ass.

Although I only hope Capcom come up with a storyline that won't be repetetive; I want it to be a whole new story. Maybe they can implement everything from RE 0 (Character swapping), RE 2 (different storylines for diff chars), RE 3 (Unsoppable monster that chases you every where).

That new creature is definitely not a zombie...I think it's a new virus that can possess anything at will(as shown by the deer head) and can take a humanoid form(notice that the new creature seems "static-ey," as if made of many tiny little things.)

i agree with nintendo gamecube- it seems a lot more like silent hill
for any of you who havent played those games, they are like re but a little more stranger
most creatures in re have been remixes of old ones but in silent hill- the creatures can freak you out since they look so hideous
that chain monster chasing leon looks really good
i am thinking that it will chase after you the whole game (sort of like mr. x in re2)
the atmosphere also looks better and more scarier- i just hope the game delivers
it looks great

I saw a video of Silent Hill 2 from NextGenVids' E3 2001 DVD, and frankly, it sucked. It was a bad example of what the game was like. The acting sucked. The lighting effects indoors were pretty cool. The zombies were more animated (there were these zombies that looked like they were having seizures which would be pretty freaky).
The outdoor levels were just horrible to watch. The frame just sucked.
I haven't played it, so these are just the impressions I have based on teh video.

RE4, based on the vid at E3 was very freaky. You know how you're not physically freaked, but it just suddenly gets cold and you get goosebumps? Yeah.

I read the backrounds wont be pre-rendered but fullon real buildings, which is surprising, did Nintendo challenge Capcom to try this? or Capcom want to try take the series into a new direction ready for the next-gen consoles that could make todays pre-rendered look way outdated compared to tommorrow's realtime?.

The Virus going Nano (airborn) should give the RE series a much needed refreshment as many PSX fanboys refuse to buy a GCN unless the series has something fresh as an incentive for them.

Easily RE4 will be the best Survival Horror game made to date and should get sales of 1MIL pretty easy.

thats rediculous...thats like not wanting to play kirby because mario came first. Remember that koie game that was like shadow gate....Survival Horor was always coming..it was just a matter of time before there was a game with graphics capable of scaring you..personally even though doom is a shooter it was one of those games that was really scary to play in the dark when it came out.

Resident Evil 4 is on my list of must have games, and has been there for a while.  I really like the new direction that the game is going in though, and am eager to try it out to see how it works.  Having never played Code Veronica, I am also eager to play it.

DO NOT be dissing Silent Hill.  Be it 1, 2, or 3.  The game is pathetically easy in terms of fighting, and the puzzles don't make sense, but that's not what the game is about.  The game is intended to creep you right out.  Silent Hill 2 was the ONE PS2 game that made me actually want a PS2 for over a year.  When it finally came out for PC, I was a happy man.  The game is truly great at what it does, and those who haven't played it (to the end), wouldn't know what I was talking about.  Silent Hill 1 was good, and scary as hell.  Silent Hill 2 did the job that much better.

Doom was FREAKING AS HELL, I loved it to death. Still one of my all time favorite FPS. I loved how you would think that you almost beat a level, only to walk into a room with those huge demons with horns (forget what they are called) that tear you up into little pieces. That shock scared the hell out of me.

Anyways, that is really amazing if that's all real-time. I'm glad they chose to go realtime, now hopefully when you shoot out a light (WHY THE HELL WOULD YOU!) or a zombie knocks down a lamp, the light fades on all the objects and the moon will be glistening through a window or something, and now making everything take a blue tone. Can't do that with pre-rendered stuff. That tidbit would make everything a hell of alot scarier, so will the flashlight. Also when a zombie is shot with a shotgun, the blood will splater on the wall and the bullet holes will be left in the wall. I can't wait for this game.

*dreams about blood splatering against wall*

One feature that I hope they fix is the limiting of the number of items you can carry. This thing alone made the game a hell of alot longer......bastards. Sure it was more realistic and not like Link, where he can pull a bow, a bomb, or boomarang out of his a**, but hey it sure is alot more frustrating. Also the movement; stop with the digital crap....I hate moving and turning so slow especially if your trying to shoot to many different zombies quickly from different directions. I don't like getting raped by zombies becuase of the controls.

Here here. *lights lighter in agreement*

And Grey Ninja, I might have come off sounding like I was dissing it, but I was just saying that the video I saw gave me a VERY bad impression of the game. And it might not have been in context, but there was all these scenes about the guy and the blonde chick screaming out if they love each other or not, and they're in some dark corridor with zombies around them.
It's just that I'd rather not play a game with really bad acting. It's like watching a bad movie. You can compare the two now, since Konami are making their major games more movie-like. And I'm not saying that it's not scary either. Hell, the bloody Redeads in WW scared the crap outta me the first time I saw them! I try to kill them without having to go near them, which is why the bomb bag upgrade was so helpful! That screech is terrifying!

Actually, I LOVED the trailers for Silent Hill 2.  There were 3 of them, and 2 of those made it onto the PC version's first disc...  which of them did you see?  My favorite was the first one.  It started out with a shot of James in a rowboat going through a foggy lake.  It ended with some VERY disturbing scenes featuring a huge monster dragging around a corpse.  After it was over... it showed James back in the bathroom, and Maria ran her hand over his face and said: "See?  I'm real."  It was a teaser trailer shown at E3 a few years back I think.  It didn't make it onto the Silent Hill 2 PC version disc though unfortunately...

The voice acting in Silent Hill 2 was awesome though... all the trailers had good voice acting scenes I think... so I don't really know what your gripe is about that.

Anyways, since I am on the topic of Silent Hill... #3 just came out recently for PS2.  I have to wait until August for the PC version.  Is anyone else here waiting for the game as much as me?    Or do you coughcoughtraitorscough have PS2s?

My impression of the shadowy looking zombie was that it's a manifestation of Leon's mind.  We know from the original trailer that Leon becomes infected with the virus in a place that doesn't resemble the area of the new demo at all, which leads me to believe that maybe the new trailer is showing some sort of internal struggle of Leon vs. the Virus (which could prove to be the whole main game, or just part of it).  Just a thought, could prove to be really interesting if they do it well.

Yes true but when I played CV on the DC I noticed that the graphics where no where near as highly detailed as being pre-rendered eg. in REmake on GCN, but today's technology and most likely next-gen consoles will allow for realtime graphics to look as good as the pre-rendered (static) environments.

CV on DC is not an example of fading the line between pre-rendered and realtime. RE4 on GCN however will be though.

Im dissapointed that AitD4 or is it 5 is only scheduled for ps2 and Xbx. That sucks because Gamecube users get RE series for temp period we get to miss out on AitD series or *cough* SH series *cough* Konami hates Nintendo *cough*.

Bummer.

If Resident Evil 4 is even half as good as RE1 and 0 on GC were, then im definately gonna get it. And it looks ten times better than the previous ones! The graphics look damn incredible, and they are in full 3D! I wonder how it plays though, it should be interesting to find out what it controls like in full 3D, i wonder if you can control the camera? This game looks awesome, thank you Capcom, and please dont rush this game, it will be the best game ever! Oh man, is GC the best console ever or what! *Gets excited, and then runs off to play Wind Waker*

Grey Ninja: It wasn't a proper trailer. Just some spliced FMVs and gameplay footage. It didn't have like the logo emblazed at the end, or any 'Konami presents' or anything like that. Just a fade in and out.

Of course.  This game has been in development for a long time now.  If I do not see what is one of the best games, if not, the best game on GCN when it is released, I will be disappointed.

The wraith creature is probably made of the new virus, the Progenitor virus.  Whatever it is, it looks to be a Nemesis.  The difference between this and the Nemesis though is that this seems like it can appear in any shape and can appear anywhere...at any time.  Cool...

Mikami, don't disappoint me.

So don't worry, I believe in Capcom a lot. They've got some real great titles that I'm looking to buy soon (Killer 7, Veitiful Joe, and RE 4).
The REmake was incredible (mostly for the part I enver played the original).  I don't see how they can go wrong with RE 4. Fans have been wanting something full motion and new control style, and they are getting exaclty that. They are also getting one of the most favorite characters, if not the most favorite. And we all know Capcom isn't going to spill all the beans, I'm sure they got some other huge surprises up their sleeve.

I have just noticed something that could make the series really scary.  First you have to dl the new direct-feed footage off IGN(yeah, I know ).

Watch where the single zombie in the footage walks to the right.  Backtrack to where you first see the zombie.  The zombie materializes out of nowhere.  Think about it.  You go into an empty room, grab something, turn to leave, and zombies materialize from the shadows.
