Okay. I think everyone agrees at the SNES had probably the best collection of AAA games on any console ever. And yes, some are being ported to GBA...but it who cares, they can get money this way too.

Now this would require a lot of cash being thrown around getting rights from third parties to publish games...but Nintendo could release a greatest hits collection, with all of the SNES's best games on one handy GCN disc. The biggest SNES games only weight in at a few megabytes, so space wouldn't be a problem. Heck, you could put the instruction manuals for each game on the disc and they would take up for space than the game. But just think about how this could sell, with good marketing and advertising. I know I would buy it. I know all of my friends would buy. Everyone I know from PS2 to Xbox owners loved the SNES. In fact, most of the kids I know say there favorite game was on SNES (Donkey Kong Country is the game I hear the most, and Super Mario Kart).

Just think of the games you could put on it. Zelda, Super Metroid, Mario Worlds 1 and 2, Mario All Stars, Final Fantasy III, Chrono Trigger, Donkey Kong Country series, Ninja Turtles IV, Killer Instinct, Mario Kart, Star Fox, Street Fighter 2, the Mortal Kombat games, and loads more.

Of course, this is only dreaming, as putting this sort of thing together would cause mass inter-publisher chaos...but it would be soooo great.

Or on a more practical scale, you could do the Nintendo published greatest hits. That would be just as good...

And hey, you could throw N64 games on as well.

I would buy it.    But like you say, it's completely impractical.

ahh yes, this sort of old game wanting drove me to rebuy a snes and games that i used to have and ones that i stupidly missed out on (super metroid is one, which should arive at my house next week sometime).

it would be a very good idea, but 2 problems 1) you allready mentioned the publisher/rights nightmare, 2) the fact alot of great snes games are being released on GBA

Hmmmmmmm......... If Nintendo could get the rights to FF II, FF III and Chrono Trigger from Squaresoft, the put all their own games on it, it would be fine. With the 64 being my first console, I'd definatley buy it

I would love that so much, especially if they gave it a graphical touch up, but they wouldn't even have to. EARTHBOUND, FF4, and Chrono Trigger are still my favorite RPGs

instead of doing one huge disk with every single one of those games on they should just do individual genres/styles per disk for a cheaper price (same as a 1/3->1/2 price game maybe), plus nintendo would probably rather do it this way to make more money
Like a Mario Game Pack (Marios either to Mario64 or SMW2:YI, or maybe up to SMW2:YI with a bonus disk with Mario64 on if you preorder), a DK Pack (Donkey Kong Countries 1-3), a RPG Game Pack (Earthbound, Final Fantasies, Chrono Trigger), a Adventure Pack (Super Metroid, Zelda:LTTP), a fighting pack, etc etc

ah well, we can dream they'd probably never do this and if they did it would be for GBA or the next GBA

Edit: Just added that they could sell it at a lowish price

Ya they could try that. Though would be more effecient if they did that for the GBA, but I don't know how much memory 1 gba cartridge can hold. The biggest SNES games are 5 MB, so it would have to hold at least 20MB.

Well, Nintendo seem quite content in re-releasing all their SNES classics for full price via GBA, so I doubt very much this will ever come to be.

An 8-Bit collection disc could maybe work though
We could have both Nintendo and Sega join forces and release the ultimate first party 8-Bit gaming game game shaba-doo disc the world has ever seen!
Duck Hunt and Gangster Town! Super Mario and Sonic! Clu-Clu Land and Penguin Land! The list could go on for ages! But I'm tired of typing! =O

I think its easier just to buy the snes, like i have, for the 3rd time.  I have it in my dark, dank, RPG corner of my living room where the empty soda cans live, where Lufia is currently residing, along with my lazy boy recliner, with my ass print firmly entrenched. ..umm, nevermind...

I got my snes for 25 bucks, and the games are fairly cheap.  Except Chrono Trigger.  But you are right in one facet-the SNES is the best console...ever.

ooh I like the idea of that more actually, I've played most good SNES games but to be honest I've only played a couple of 8-bit console games, and not even all the way through (I was too busy playing on my ZX Spectrum at the time) so I'd love to be able to play the classics on those systems.

I say we make an online petition for Nintendo/Sega to do one of these!

umm, to the man who stated the amount of space an SNES cartridge could hold, you are way off. the biggest super nintendo game was 64 megabits. i can recall that donkey kong country and super street fighter II were both 32 megabits. i used to watch video game commercials all the time when i was younger in the super nintendo days and they loved stating the amount of space on a cartridge at the time. oh and super metroid was 24 megabits.
as to the subject, the cube disc could still easily hold all of the games you mentioned. it would be quite cool, as long as the mario kart version they use is in fact the super nintendo version and not the sucky N64 version.

I would buy such a greatest hits collection... if I didn't already own practically all those games already.

Whenever anyone suggests the idea of a mega game collection they always mention third party games and the complications of getting the rights to those titles.  But when you think of it wouldn't a Nintendo only SNES compilation be more than sufficient?  There's no problems with getting the rights and it still would include more than it's share of SNES classics.

There is of course always the issue of Nintendo potentially making more money by porting these game.  But Nintendo only ports the really big titles like Mario and Zelda.  There are still tons of SNES classics that will likely never get ported to the GBA.  Nintendo would probably never port some of the more obscure titles like Uniracers or Stunt Race FX.  The GBA already has a Mario Kart and F-Zero title so there's pretty much no way in hell that the SNES versions of those games will ever get ported.  Some people aren't even sure if Star Fox can be made on the GBA so it's a good choice.  Plus with another GBA Metroid title on the way Nintendo seems to have no intention of porting Super Metroid.

So if you take into account what Nintendo has ported or is likely to port to the GBA a SNES compilation for Gamecube could have the following titles on it:
F-Zero
Pilotwings
Super Mario Kart
Star Fox
Uniracers
Stunt Race FX
Kirby's Dream Course
Super Metroid
Killer Instinct (unless Rare owns that title)
Kirby Superstar

That collection of games alone would be a must-own title and it would likely be nothing more than a simple emulator job (in fact that would probably be best so that Nintendo can't lower the difficulty and add stupid voice sound effects).  They could probably even go a little further and translate some Japan-only titles like some of the SNES Fire Emblem games.

Don'tHate742 is right, and KrazyJ1098, sorry you are wrong. First of all, Don'tHate742 said the largest SNES games are 5 megaBYTES, not megaBITS. They are different units used to measure different things, but if you must know, 1 megabyte = 8 megabits. Yes, Super Metroid was 24 megabits, but it was only 3 megabytes, which isn't much at all. I don't know of any SNES games that are 5 megabytes, even. The largest I know of that I can remember are 4 megabytes, games like Samurai Shodown, Donkey Kong Country, Chrono Trigger, and Super Mario RPG. N64 carts were much larger, with 32 megabyte games such as Ocarina of Time and Perfect Dark and even a couple of 64 megabyte games (Turok 2 and Resident Evil 2).

As for GBA carts, yes they are bigger than SNES carts and could hold a few SNES games in one cart. Off the top of my head, I heard somewhere that Tactics Ogre is 40 megabits (8 megabytes), and I'm pretty sure Pokemon Ruby/Sapphire are 128 megabits (16 megabytes).

IanSane - Rare owns the rights to make any NEW Killer Instinct games, but Nintendo holds all publishing rights to the already released Killer Instinct and Killer Instinct Gold. Oddly, Nintendo doesn't hold the publishing rights to Conker's Bad Fur Day or Diddy Kong Racing. o_O

The largest GBA game so far in terms of Megabytes is LOTR: Two Towers, at 12 MB. Pokemon is just over 6 MB, so yeah. Much, much bigger than your average SNES cart

*Slapppppped*

oh damn...drama

I think I'm going to change my name, to something short and to the point.

Anyways, they could easily release a bigger cartridge without telling anybody but the developers. Just look around and you'll find blank GBA cartridges that can hold up to 1 GB (THAT IS THE HIGHEST I"VE SEEN...rare), but most are 128 Mbytes and 256 Mbytes.

And just becuase a the biggest game is 12Mbytes or whatever that doesn't mean that's the maximum capacity.

hahah blank GBA cartridges that are 1 Gb? Don't lie, it makes you look dumb.
EDIT: Fine, I'll waste my time and correct your stupidity... Blank GBA carts are 128 M and 256 M, yeah, not 128 Mb. Mb = megabyte; M = megabit. 1 megabyte = 8 megabits. 128 M = 16 Mb = The size of Pokemon Ruby/Sapphire's cart. I'm sure there are bigger GBA games but I don't know a whole about GBA games and I'm not too interested..

Infernal Monkey, nope, GBA Pokemon is 16 megabytes, not 6...

Well, those blank carts aren't the same used by Nintendo though. They are much more expensive Flash cartridges...That's why you can get a 1 G cart, which is equal to 128 Mb flash memory.

Nintendo, of course, uses much cheaper silicon cartridges...

Don't forget that the Gamecube's discs can hold close to 1.5 GB of data! So don't worry about fitting four SNES games on one disk!!! Just imagine if Nintendo put 50 SNES games on one disk...
