Dark Horse Comics Localizing Hyrule Historia
« on: August 16, 2012, 04:13:45 PM »

Get all your hardcore Zelda knowledge in January 2013.

http://www.nintendoworldreport.com/news/31361

Hyrule Historia, the official history of the Zelda universe, is coming to North America, UK, Australia, and parts of Europe in the new year courtesy of Dark Horse Comics, as Diamond Book Distributors listed the book for a January 29, 2013 release for $34.99.

The book, originally released in Japan in late 2011, contains the official Zelda timeline, as well as behind-the-scenes features, unreleased pages of manga, and concept and official artwork for the series. This version will be bigger than the original Japanese version.

According to Dark Horse Comics, Nintendo proposed the idea of localizing the book to them, as the two companies have been discussing various projects for years.

More information on the book can be seen at Diamond Book's website.

"The book, originally released in Japan in late 2010,"

I'm pretty sure that this came out last year.  Not 2010.

Looking forward to a purchase.  It would have been cool if it released in the same time frame as Skyward Sword, but whatever.  I expect this to be pretty awesome, anyways.

No, it came out in 2010; December 21, 2010 to be exact.

I can't wait to pick this up, I knew passing over translations would be a good thing!

Edit: I guess I type too fast!

Originally released in late 2010? That can't be right...

Skyward Sword came out in late 2011 and I know they had to be released around the same time because I remember first hearing about the translated reports right the around the time I had completed it.

I was very pleased they had finally moved the plot in the right direction, only have it all be undermined by the revelation of a post-hock, illogical storyline which was clearly re-written last minute to pander to noobs (the Capcom games and Four Swords installments were clearly never intended to be cannon, and creating the convoluted "if Link failed" scenarios by trying to write them-in completely destroyed all integrity it otherwise could have maintained).

Speaking of which, I REALLY hope they reconsider revising the history for the world-wide audience (though I know I'm just dreaming).

Really?? It was out a whole year before the news of the translation was reported here? If that's really true the gaming press (including you, NWR) should be ashamed...

I just looked it up-- It came out  December 21, 2011 just as I thought.

I don't why I ever doubted myself, considering according to this same article, Australia and North America are located in Europe. :-P

You guys really ought to proofread these articles more thoroughly before you post them. Just sayin'...

You know, just this afternoon, as I was driving back from work, I thought to myself that it'd be nice to own a copy of Hyrule Historia, but I could never justify the outrageous cash monies it would take to import a book I would never be able to read.

Totally pick this up next year. Thanks, combined forces of Nintendo and Dark Horse!

...now, about that Kid Icarus soundtrack...

Nice find.  I mean why would people think it was 2010 when Skyward Sword came out just last year.  :P

Yeah, these articles should be proofread, especially when they're only usually a few paragraphs long...

It was proofread. It was just an honest mistake regarding the years, one that people in this very thread made.

It has been corrected. Thanks for those who pointed it out nicely.

While we're playing this game, the translation was only just officially announced several hours ago - the conversation was talking about the release of the Japanese version of the book. You know, the one that's in Japan, and not in English... or sold in book stores outside of Japan?

I guess readers should also start proofreading what they say. Just sayin'...

LMAO... I'm sensing I ruffled some feathers with that "proofreading" crack. Rest assured, I know full well you proofread and you all do a great job. Everyone makes mistakes and I was just having a little fun. I didn't mean it seriously.

As for my supposed proofreading mistake, I hate to have to point this out, but what I wrote actually DID make sense in the proper context. You just apparently made a personal interpretation error when you read it ("translation" was referring to to the description of the timeline which was published in Japanese, rather than to this upcoming official translation of the book). But to be fair, I did the same thing when I interpreted the article as implying Australia and North America were in Europe (it actually made more sense before it was revised in response to my comment). My inclusion of the ":-P" was intended to show that I was actually making fun of myself, but that clearly didn't come across. My bad.

The internet can be a terrible place for sarcasm. No harm, no foul, Bman. If people didn't call us out on our mistakes, we'd have a lot more of them.

Nintendo and Dark Horse having been talking about projects? This, to me, is even better news than the Historia being localized (which is good news to start).
I'm a fan of Dark Horse's work. Some decent, mature Nintendo tie-in comics would be welcome. I'm down for a spin-off series a la SW Legacy. I don't know which franchise would translate well to comics, though. Metroid maybe?

It's also a terrible place for drollness and farce. The internet is too literal.

This seems like pretty interesting news.

The Zelda artbook is currently the #1 selling book on Amazon.

And people think Nintendo isn't popular anymore.
