This is also at Circuit City, but I think some of you hate CC for some reason
They laid of 8% of their work force and told them they would offer then their jobs back in 6 months later at lower pay if they didn't find anyone to take the job at lower pay.
Is that good enough?
Hmm, I guess so. But I have to say, I don't have a whole lot of sympathy here for the most part: the Circuit Cities I've been in (across the board from Nebraska to California and elsewhere) have had the absolute worst customer service of any retail chain I know of. There are two scenarios I run into 95% of the time I go there. 1) There are tons of employees around, except they are NEVER of any help. They're actually standing around doing nothing, or chatting with their coworkers back in the car audio department, and if I ask them to check something for me, they always,
always refuse, usually citing unbelievable (what kind of retail store doesn't keep an
inventory) or rote (it's not my department) excuses. OR 2) I search and search, and there's no one around to even ask. Actually, there's often one employee running around furiously trying to help people, a small entourage of customers non-chalantly following with questions of their own, with no sign of where everyone else is.
I know there are good employees who work there... but the culture at CC seems to breed unhelpfulness and a weak work ethic. Just go on YouTube and check out all the bored Circuit City employees either tackling/bodyslamming displays, or wrestling each other in the warehouse, or dancing around in their department, or whatever. I was really surprised by the sheer volume of these videos (but not so surprised, really) when I ran across some the other day.
EDIT: Hmm... I guess I hate Circuit City too!
