UPDATE 2: The North American DLC is now available.

UPDATE: The North American DLC will be available "later today" according to Square Enix.

The first set of downloadable content for Theatrhythm Final Fantasy in North America and Europe has been revealed. The "add-on content" will launch in Europe on Thursday, and it is coming soon in North America.

The game itself includes more than 70 musical pieces, but at a cost of $0.99/€1 each, you can download additional tracks. The first eight tracks to be made available include:

1. “Battle Theme 1” (FINAL FANTASY II)

2. “The Final Battle” (FINAL FANTASY IV)

3. “Fighters of the Crystal” (FINAL FANTASY XI)

4. “Fighting Fate” (FINAL FANTASY XIII)

5. “In Search of Light” (FINAL FANTASY V)

6. “Cosmo Canyon” (FINAL FANTASY VII)

7. “Ride On” (FINAL FANTASY VIII)

8. “A Fleeting Dream” (FINAL FANTASY X)

Square Enix representatives have said that they plan to release about 50 songs. Currently, there are more than 40 available in Japan.

The plan is to have $50 of expansion content. Good for those that want more music to theater rhythm to. The game is getting favorable reviews which is quite nice.

The music genre is one of the few instances where I feel like DLC is totally justified and acceptable.

Well, it's a good thing that from my brief time with Theatrhythm I already know there are games I'm just NOT buying songs from (FFs 2-3, & probably 11 and 12 as well).  I have a feeling all the songs I like are going to be the ones I have to buy DLC for, though.  So far, the song selection does not seem especially great.

A mega FF fanboy's wet dream, and thus more than likely to turn off any casual FF player... :'(

Could somebody please review the individual songs as they are released? Because while I will be able to afford the occasional extra song, I doubt I could afford ÂŁ45 worth, so I would obviously want the best!

Your loss, brood.

As a longtime FFXI subscriber/player, I can without a doubt tell you that FFXI's music is some of the best FF music your ears will ever pay notice to. That game's soundtrack is beyond fantastic.

Especially the Sanctuary of Zi'tah track. Wow.
I like Nintendo more than j00!

Actually, now that I've played all the "series" tracklists in Theatrhythm I have to agree that the tracks they selected are quite lovely.  It's a pity they're wasted on an MMO.

Plus, Theatrhythm is now officially the best way to replay FF 8.  You can experience all the good from that game (the music) without any of the bad (the rest of the game).   :P: : : :

In fact, I'd say that FF 2 really has the only bad songs in the game from what I've seen.  Even FF 3, which I similarly dislike as a game, at least has a decent set of songs.

I have noticed, though, that there's some really bad audio compression/audio popping in some of the tracks, especially the ones with vocals.  You can really hear it on the FF 13 DLC track, as the vocals just completely destroy the 3DS speakers.

I played the demo for Theatrhythm and thought it was kind of cool, but I have zero nostalgia for any of these songs, having never played any Final Fantasy. I fear a large part of the appeal will be significantly diminished for me, which is a shame because I reckon it's got the chops as a rhythm game. Then again, my rhythm cravings are being satisfied by Rhythm Thief at the minute, so maybe this isn't an essential purchase for me on that front either.

Hopefully you've all been listening to the Famicast and hearing about this game for a while now :D

I'll have to ask Daan and Danny how many of those DLC tracks they've purchased up to this point...

I'm sure the eShop Twins own all of them because there on the eShop.

Anyways, I wouldn't mind having the DLC but the price is to much for my taste.  I'll get them if they come in a reasonable Bundle.  I was really hoping to see the DLC be packs of different games out of the mainline.  Like Final Fantasy Crystal Chronicles, maybe Final Fantasy Tactics, or heck if your really stretching Kingdom Hearts and Super Mario RPG.  I pay $5 per bundle for those.
