Here are my ideas on the subject:

  • The War of 1812 (as DLC for AC3).
  • The American Civil War.
  • The Battle of the Alamo.
  • The Wild West frontier (Red Dead Redemption meets AC).
  • WWI and WWII.

I think a WW2 setting is a no brainer (eventually), but there is a lot of history between the revolutionary war and WW2 which could be filled in first, such as the civil war as you pointed out.

After WW2 there is the Cold War which would make perfect sense, and beyond that there is the current war on terrorism which would sorta see the series going full circle because that would bring it right back to the middle east from where it began.

They could even take it into the future and have the event take place on another planet. That could make it very similar to the Red Faction games.

What if Watch Dogs is secretly Future Assassin's Creed, and whatever his name is, Captain Trenchcoat, is a guy like the other Assassin's Creed protagonists?

They will most likely be seperate IPs, but I do see an opprotunity to put an Assassin's cloak on the main character of Watch Dogs to replace his trenchcoat.

Maybe the Napoleonic Wars? Those were fun times.

Or the Spanish Inquisition, nobody would see that coming.

You've got to assume Ubisoft has this planned out on paper for many years.

AC III: Revolutionary War
AC: Companionship: War of 1812
AC: Tumescence: Victorian/Edwardian London

AC IV: Revolutionary Moscow (early 1900s)
AC: Fellowship: Eastern European WWI
AC: Complacence: Ottoman Empire WWI

Etc.

The Spanish Inquisition is too similar to the time periods already covered. It would also be taking a step backwards, because isn't the series moving forward through time?

I think the series could definitely use more fear and surprise.

WW2 would fit the bill, because it could have the Gestapo trying to hunt you down and so it would be like the Spanish Inquisition only more modern and therefore more fresh.

That runs into the problem, though, of guns. By WWII you could plausibly have a Wolfenstein-eque arsenal, and certainly Axis soldiers and Gestapo would just shoot at you. I'd say you could push it to WWI-era with people still having comparatively primitive rifles and handguns, and not lose the assassiny melee focus. I would not care to see the series turn in to open world Hitman. You could even plausibly have it set in the "present" where the Templars have succeeded in banning guns, England or Japan style. SWAT teams and troopers and such would still have ordinance, but theoretically regular cops and guards would just have batons and stun-guns.

Here is a list of potential conflicts and the descendants of the Assassin's order that would partake in them:

  • The War of 1812 (An older Connor, or his son).
  • The Battle of the Alamo (Connor's son or grandson).
  • The Wild West frontier (Connor's grandson or great-grandson).
  • WWI and WWII (Desmond's grand father or great-grand father).

How about an Assassin's Creed-Metroid crossover? It would be set right after Other M and it could be revealed that the "Deletor" from Other M was actually a Templar agent. Also, maybe it would be revealed that Higgs is the great-great-great-great-great-great grandson of Desmond?

Who would the Templars be affiliated with for each conflict in each era? Here is an example:

  • War of 1812 (British army).
  • The Battle of the Alamo (Mexican army).
  • The American Civil War (both the Confederate and Union armies)
  • The Wild West frontier (Outlaws)
  • World War I (Germans)
  • World War II (Germans again)

I guess since AC3 is set in the American Revolution that means the French and Indian War is out of the question.... *sighs wistfully for Last of the Mohicans*

Actually, it takes place over a longer period of time than the war. I don't remember exactly the years they gave, but I think it starts early enough that the French and Indian War could be in it. For how much impact that war had on this country, it's a shame you don't hear much about it.

The Vita game, AC3 Liberation, deals with the French and Indian War, and even has a cameo of Connor himself in the game. The game actually has a female Assain working in New Orleans and the bayou is the equivalent of the frontier in this game. I hope it gets ported to the Wii U eShop.

Even though Britain won that war, the war was very costly for them and so that was a large part of the reason why they imposed so many taxes on the colonists and that was the main reason why the colonists rebelled. So if the French and Indian war had never happened the American revolution probably wouldn't have happened either.

It also got the French pissed at the British and more willing to help the Americans later on just to pester them, and won Florida for the British. It was also merely the North American front of the larger Seven Years War, which should really be considered the first world war.

Oh man, this is the first super tempting thing about the Vita I've heard!

How would Assassin's Creed work in the wild west,

Not well, because it would take a huge stretch to try to connect the Native Americans to the Templars. Maybe a better option would be to have Mexico as the adversary during the Mexican-American war or the Texas war of independence? This could include the Alamo.

I mentioned in the list of conflicts that I made that one of the Assassin's Creed games should take place during the Texas war of independance and should feature the battle of the Alamo as its main theme. The Templars would be associated with the Mexican army this time around. The hero could be Connor's son or grandson.

My history has gotten a little rusty, but after the civil war there was an influx of peoples into the western portion of the US. This was mostly done for gold prospecting, amongst other things. What if a Templar had a small mining town under his thumb and is using the towns people as slave labor to find a piece of Eden within the mine. An Assassin is sent there to liberate the twon and free them from Templar control.

I was really hoping for an Assassin's Creed to take place in Japan.  My history isn't the greatest so I can't name any pivotal wars that would fit into the AC canon though.  I do remember reading an email in one of the AC games, probably part 2, where they made mention of a unit stationed in Japan having to go silent and off the grid.  I assumed the Templars found them and they were on the run back to a safe zone.  I was really hoping this was a hint at a possible future instalment in the franchise.  I'd love to see what took place there and Japan would be a really good setting for AC's gameplay style.
