Just as long as the system itself can do 1080p.

... it CAN do that, can't it?

Yes, Nintendo confirmed on their officially-released spec sheet that it supports 1080p, 1080i, 720p, 480p, and 480i.

You can notice the difference between 720p and 1080p it just makes less and less of a difference the smaller the screen is. As long as I get pretty graphics, running at a constant 60 fps with no noticeable slow down, I will be happy.

60 fps is more important than 1080p !!!
I'm fine with Pikmin 3, it looks really good and it offers smooth 60 fps. 1080p doesn't make a big difference to 720p, BUT it causes a huge impact on performance. 720p looks really crisp compared to 480p. like the old Wii did.
Nintendo should force DEVs to run all games at 60 fps at least in 720p. If someone decides to go for 1080p, it should be an option to select 720p and 60 fps instead of being forced to use struggling 30 fps at 1080p.

The WII U does have 3D support in their API so if the developers wanted to support it--it's there.

Don't the current HD systems run natively at like 520p? At least from the get go Nintendo's games are step above that.
Nintendo players and One Piece readers, just better people.

Depends on the game, but most games run at 720P and upscaled to 1080P.

BF3, is 720P with 30FPS, Crysis 2 is 720P at 30FPS as well.  Unreal 3 games are the same as well.

Only a couple like CoD run at odd ball resolution like 576P at 60 fps.  Alan Wake, and Halo ran sub 720P as well.
