Thanks again (to all of you) for keeping the podcast going after all these years.  I listen to quite a few podcasts and it's amazing how many of them have faded over the years.  Fortunately for us all, this one has not.   Your podcast has ranked consistently as one of my most liked podcasts over the years, and while things will never be quite the same, I'm sure things will be fine, just different.

Farewell Greg, enjoy your new found time.

I'm still getting myself ready to listen to 291. I usually listen at work, but there is no way I can do that this week. I've actually been avoiding this thread since the show went up.

I said my piece on the show and I'm glad to see the comments here that indicate I got it out. I really felt like I was rambling, but I had things to say. And no, I didn't cry. Honest...

I want each and every listener to know, this last week and a half has really shown me how much this show means to our listeners. The outpouring of support, praise, emotion, and genuine humanity in the inhumane tundra that is the Internet has been absolutely touching.

It has encouraged me to do the absolute most I can to make this podcast as good as it can be, even if I have to do the unthinkable and read the show notes in advance. While I'm sure it often seems that I'm not taking this very seriously, know that this show means a lot to me. I know it means a lot to each of us, and even though he retired I know it will continue to mean a lot to Greg. I now know that it means a lot to you, our listeners, as well. I want it to continue to, and that is now my mission. Am I going to continue to be an ass? Yes, but that's my way.

Thank you, all of you, for listening. Keep sending us your email. Keep posting in the talkback. Keep hitting us on twitter. Half the show is from you guys, and we can't make it great without you.

@James I appreciated the genuine and heartfelt feelings the crew shared in this episode, cheers for letting the man crystals tumble.
What I found the most poignant was the revelation that the crew has not even all met face to face to shake hands, slaps on the back and toasts. Yet, real and meaningful relationships can form nonetheless and neither geography or facial familiarity can be a barrier to that.
Going back to what Jonny said about the relationship between a host and his unknown listeners, there is really something beautifully human (sometimes) about how we can develop strong personal feelings even for, essentially, a smooth, disembodied voice.

Anyway, it's been a great time, Greg. Too bad that you have to leave the crew. :(
However, thank you for providing us information and insights about video games and the video game industry as a whole, and I hope that you have a great future ahead of you. Thank you.

I thought the episode was bittersweet.  It was an excellent episode except Greg was being sent off.  Even though Dr.Metts is the host it always felt along the line of Greg being the Steward.  I'm a little concerned the limits won't be able to be pushed as far without him.

Greg is someone that I have come to really respect.  I wouldn't mind my Son turning out like Greg.

Also for some reason I feel a need for a Cho Aniki tribute to Greg, but alas I don't own the game.

Can I just say that although I am going to miss hearing Greg's musings on the podcast, that I'm grateful you all didn't decide to take Jonny's initial reaction to pull the plug?

All gushing about being sad of Greg's departure aside, Radio Free Nintendo is a great podcast to listen to because of ALL the members that are involved.  From this listener's perspective, what is being lost just as much as Greg's individual input is the great group cohesion & collaboration that seemed to flow so well.  Despite this, I do believe the three of you can soldier on with Guillerme (Not sure if that's the correct spelling, apologies if it isnt) to form a new consensus and direction.

I'll say again that I'll miss the old group mojo, but do also look forward to future episodes and believe that the podcast won't be worse, just a bit different.

P.S. The new intro music in the episodes have been sounding like funeral procession music to me.  Any possibility of choosing a different selection?  Just saying it sounds kind of like a downer, and prior intro music selections always made it seem like "the party is about to start!".

I'm a relatively new listener but I've come to enjoy having you all in my weekly schedule.  You will be missed, Greg.  Thankfully I can still (and will) go back and listen to about 3 years worth of shows from before I found the podcast.  Not everyone is that 'lucky'.

Like I said, I'm a new listener and will miss you.  I cannot imagine what it must be like for Johnny, Jon and James who have had you in their lives for over 4 years.

All the best, Greg.

I'm humbled at the fact you spent 20+ hrs a week for our sake. We were not worthy of that type personal sacrifice but are grateful for the quality podcast you brought us week in and week out. We couldn't possibly thank you enough.  Looking forward at least we still have Jon's steady hand to guide the ship. God help us all.

I have been listening to various podcasts for about a year now, and RFN has always been the best of the bunch.  Now I know that this excellence was due in large part to not only Greg's thorough knowledge of gaming but also his technical skills with editing.  I will miss Greg on the show, but I am highly optimistic that the show will maintain its high level of professionalism.
Once again... thanks.

Just finished listening.  :-\

I feel like, well, not like someone died... but like, when a close friend moves away for whatever reason.  You know you'll still hear from them now and then, but that frequent contact will likely never happen again.

Very sad indeed.

At least the blow is softened by having someone as great as Gui join the crew.

Now if you'll excuse me, I feel I must wrap my NES in a fine cloth, place it on a small boat, light that boat on fire, and softly play the trumpet as it floats out to sea*.   :'(

I was listening to RFN while working in my yard a couple of months ago and it dawned on me that this podcast, as I know it, won't exist indefinitely. It was a sad thought, because the staff at RFN speaks to my love of Nintendo in a way no one else does. Greg, you will be missed. Thank you for planning your departure with such professionalism and sensitivity to those of us who have looked forward to hearing from you over the past 3+ years. I wish you the best.

Unfortunately, I was on a trip last week and didn't really get wind of Greg's departure until this week.  I found out by reading the talkback threads in both this episode and 290.  I've frankly been putting off listening to them because the news did sadden me, but I finally made myself finish them yesterday.

There's probably not much to add that already hasn't been said, but here goes...

Greg, thank you for your hard work and sacrifice to make this podcast something truly special.  Just due the nature of my life currently, I probably end up spending more time listening to video game podcasts than I do with actual gaming at times.  RFN has been consistently one of the best, if not the best podcast out there on this subject.  As others have stated, your wit, demeanor and professionalism will be missed.  I was amazed when I first heard about some of your monumental efforts to recreate missing audio or entire segments; I think your level of commitment speaks volumes about your character.

Even though I feel a little silly writing it, listening to 290 and 291 did feel a little like having to say goodbye to an old friend.   Even though I've been fortunate enough to call in to one of the live shows and express (somewhat feebly) a little of my appreciation for RFN and your efforts, I've never taken the time to write the show with a question or just a note of appreciation.  I regret that now.   I hope that you'll continue to make appearances on RFN and other podcasts when you're adjusted and have obtained some of that rest that is certainly well-deserved.  Good luck in whatever it is that you'll do with all of that spare time!  :)

To the rest of you guys, I'd say that I'd feel the same way if any of you guys left as well.  You guys really do all contribute to this podcast, and have all worked together to craft something that is truly special.  I appreciate it!  Given that RFN has been going so strong for a relative eternity (in internet years), I've been dreading something like this for a while.  This has been consistently one of my favorite podcasts for the last four years or so of my life.  I've always attempted to make time for RFN, even if I was a little late in listening to some of the episodes.

Guillaume, I've enjoyed your appearances on the show so far, and I'm sure that you'll do great as the newest addition.  I've enjoyed your contributions on handheld and downloadable games in particular.  It's not as if you need me to welcome you to the show, but I still say, "Welcome!"  If Greg has faith in you, I'm certain that you'll do an outstanding job.

I couldn't agree more with James on this. Even just for a regular listener like me the out pouring of appreciation for RFN from all of us and the honest vulnerability the guys showed on the podcast this week has felt like something special. I love knowing that I'm not the only one who can't wait for the show each week and enjoys it as much as I do.

Sad as I am at the prospect of not listening to Gregg each week, I'm looking forward to listening to the next episode and I'm so glad the show is moving on.

Cheers Greg, I'll miss talking shop with you every week.  I look forward to the upcoming NFL season, when I'll be thinking of you when Ryan Fitzpatrick inevitably gets benched and replaced by Vince Young.

To the listeners: thank you all.  It's extremely humbling that you guys enjoy what we do so much.  The appreciation that you've shown Greg (and the podcast in general) over the past few weeks really shows why RFN is something special, and will continue to be something special in the weeks, months, and years to come.

And of course, welcome Gui!  I look forward to educating you on the fine Canadian game of hockey.  Perhaps you've heard of it.  ;-)

The show could never be the same without Greg, but I don't think they could have done any better than Guillaume as a successor. This crew was the only RFN cast I ever knew, and they had have a fantastic dynamic with each other that would be damned hard to duplicate.

As has been said, though, Greg is a far better man than me to be able to devote that much time week in and week out for as long as he did, and I don't begrudge him one bit for wanting out of that arrangement. He will be missed dearly, but the (somewhat) new cast, while different, has proven already to work very well together, and will only improve with time.

Greg or no Greg, for my money, Radio Free Nintendo is easily the best gaming podcast out there, and I don't see that changing any time soon.

I'm so torn up about this.  Fitzpatrick is a mystery because he can be great but it's looking like there is some kind of ceiling on his talent that we can't see.  Where as Vince Young can be a superstar but also refuses to realize that potential.

We'll have to see, but, as a very satisfied Giants fan who lives in Buffalo, I am desperately thirsting for a Bills superbowl championship and I don't care who delivers it.

The Bills have adopted the method of my Cleveland Browns, where they have two decent, inconsistent QBs that would be very good backups instead of a real starter.
