Where's Donkey Kong?
« on: May 17, 2003, 05:47:32 PM »
I was hoping to see some kind of Donkey Kong game on Gamecube at E3, but nope, nothing. Ive been wanting a Donkey Kong game ever since the Cube launched, and i still havent even seen a single screenshot or heard anything about a possible Donkey Kong GC. So whats the deal? Are nintendo laying off the DK franchise a little bit so in a few years they can make DK return to the gaming industry with a huge bang? Hmmm...

remember that E3 does not equal what Nintendo is making right now. Nintendo seem to focus E3 on games coming out this year. Look how long it took to see screen shots of Mario Kart and Mario Golf. I believe DK is in development and we'll probable see something later this year.

I've heard it will go back to its side scrolling, SNES type style.  That'd be awesome, but it's only a rumor.

It looks like they're saving some big name games for Spaceworld.

Are we forgetting the whole microsoft/rare occurence, this could have serious aftermath on the common DK franchise
Currently Playing:
Metroid Prime
Sonic Mega Collection
Zelda: Windwaker
Chronotrigger (I will play this game until my hands no longer function, but even then, I will choose to stare at the screen)

well nintendo own Donkey Kong reguardless, im pretty sure they got all the other kongs, as they probably copywrote the name "Kong" or had a contract with rare that anything created in the kong universe would belong to nintendo, and fair enough too.

EAD took over development of Donkey Kong Racing, but I'm not even sure about the status of that game now.

As for the other DK game in development, Miyamoto supposedly said that it will be 3D graphics meets 2D gameplay (like Smash Bros.). So if this is true, then we very well may be in for Donkey Kong Country 4, in full 3D with all the new things EAD thinks up. And I'm all for that.

Another rumor is that Rare has turned DKR into another racing game based one of their old franchises, but I believe the rumor to be completely false. But, who knows?

Anyway, wheres Game Zero? Where's Too Human? Blah blah.
Just because Donkey Kong wasn't at E3 doesn't mean anything. Nintendo doesn't like showing off games until close to release date. Just because Nintendo had a fairly bad E3 doesn't mean 2003 will be the fall of the Gamecube. There are plenty of big projects in the works, and you'll just have to wait and see what they are.

A fairly bad E3? What are you talking about? Just look at the list of games that were shown for the Gamecube. I'm lost at how anybody can say that.

Same here.  Everyone just thinks it's bad because Nintendo only gave us about two new franchises (not necessarily franchises, just new game types) and didn't have any super huge surprises.  Obviously the several awesome continuations of old franchises just won't suffice.

Well, lets see...no TOO HUMAN, GAME ZERO, MARIO 128, MARIO TENNIS, CAMELOT RPG, DONKEY KONG...VIRTUA FIGHTER QUEST...and several more that i can't remember right now, were not even mentioned.  Now i don't think the show was bad.  Just not as exciting as normal for Nintendo.  But I think the obvious reason is Spaceworld, where they basically have the media too themselves, and will blow everybodys minds.  So while i'm mildly disappointed, I am sure i'll be more than pleased come August.  All of us Nintendo fans will.

It's a very sad day in the video game world when people scoff at titles such as: F-Zero GX, Mario Kart: Double Dash, Star Wars Rogue Squadron: Rebel Strike, Metal Gear Solid: The Twin Snakes, Star Fox, and Resident Evil 4. That's not even all of the titles. I mean, there's also Pikmin 2. I can't even name all of the top notch games that were showcased for Nintendo Gamecube. That's not good. That's outstanding.

I know I, for one, am very pleased at the amount of games Nintendo showcased at E3 simply because I know there are two Kong titles, a Mario title, another Zelda title, a secret project, and who knows what else Nintendo has up their sleeve that they haven't shown off yet. .

I know good and well I didn't even name some of Nintendo's other titles from E3. I can't keep up with all of them.

E3 wasn't bad, it just could've been a lot better for Nintendo had they shown their actual games rather than their connectivity games.

Anyway, Nintendo IS making a DKC game for the GBA, I believe. It was on the banner of the pic Gamespot had up.

you know...if their not going to have demos at these shows they might as well show video....Nintendo makes a big deal about getting ripped off and they havnt been very innovative in the last few years. 3d games exist now..they need to ease up. Secrecy can give a game great hype...secrecy can give it a death when no one knows about it(ED, Conker, perfect dark)

All those games were announced and known of prior to E3.  Yes they are big titles, but we knew they were coming.  Get it?

Well let me ask this, since I seem to be missing something. What big surprises did Playstation 2 and Xbox have? From what I gather, everyone must have had a fairly bad E3...

Not everything about E3 is supposed to be surprises. For the sake of argument, I was pretty surprised by Rebel Strike. We all knew it was coming, we all knew Factor 5 was doing some pretty fancy work, but that footage and trailer for the game is unbelievable.

Nintendo must have made the mistake of telling us their secrets before E3. This is pretty similar to parents letting their kids open their gifts before Christmas day. When that happens, does that make Christmas fairly bad?

I still think this E3 surpasses last year's, whether we were shocked by the upcoming games or not.

It's nice to see that this has turned into another argument about whether E3 sucked or not.

I have to say Nintendo seemed to have the most promise at E3 ps2 and x box had nothing in their inventory whilst Nintendo had Mario kart, metroid prime 2, metal gear solid and a few others, theres some good stuff out now though, Ikaruga is quality if your a bit r type old skool inclined, Zelda is wicked aswell, Im worried about Playstation bringout a hand held though that could be trouble!
