Topic: Kirby 20th Anniversary Wii Collection Announced

Nintendo is releasing a Wii disc compilation for Kirby's 20th anniversary.

To celebrate Kirby’s 20th anniversary, Nintendo is releasing a Kirby compilation disc for Wii. The collection was announced during the Japanese Nintendo Direct conference and subsequently confirmed for North American release through Nintendo of America’s twitter account.

There is currently no information regarding the games that will be included in the collection. However, it’s safe to assume that the collection will be similar to the one released in 2010 for Mario’s 25th anniversary.

Well, at the very least Nintendo actually has to put some work into this collection, unlike the SMB All-Stars one where there was already a prepared ROM they could use.  As far as I know, there is no previous Kirby Collection for them to just slap on a disc.

As for the collection itself, "meh".  Like Dr. Metts, it's rare that I can enjoy a Kirby game so I doubt I'll pick this one up, though I did like Super Star Saga on the SNES/VC.

Nintendo is a Japan-centric company and Metroid is relatively unpopular in Japan.  I think that's the main reason.  Note that Japan had to buy the NPC Metroid Prime games individually while we in the West got Metroid Primes 1-3 in a nice collection.

Well realistically I'd imagine this will contain all the Kirby games that are on the Wii's Virtual Console.  Since the emulations for running on the Wii's hardware are already done, this would allow Nintendo to easily copy and paste all of these games to a Wii disk and call it a day.

Since the Wii is pretty much dead and no Kirby games have been added to the system in about 2 years now, I can see why Nintendo would have no problem doing this since no one is really downloading these games anymore.  Of course don't expect any of the Gameboy games to hit this collection since Nintendo is adding those to the 3DS which is very much alive at the moment and they wouldn't want this collection hurting potential sales for that system.  This means the collection will probably include.

Kirby's Dream Course
Kirby's Super Star
Kirby's Dream Land 3
Kirby 64

If these end up being the games on the Collection and it's only 30 dollars like Mario was, this would actually be a pretty good for anyone that never downloaded any of these off the Virtual Console.  Of course that's assuming all these games will be on it.

I'd be surprised if Kirby's Adventure was on it - since they just released the 3DS Classics version.

I *could* see it coming with a download code for it on the 3DS though.

Even Kid Icarus' birthday was celebrated and Pit has only 3 games counting the birthday present. I hope we at least hear the word Samus in E3 2012

That's not true at all. Kirby Super Star is an existing Kirby compilation and is pretty much the Kirby equivalent of Super Mario All-Stars. Fortunately, since it's already available via the Wii's Virtual Console, I'm pretty sure we won't have to worry about them simply giving us that on disc.

Actually, I wouldn't say that's even remotely realistic...

Nintendo is NOT going to include the SAME games that are already available on Wii for download... Granted, the games within Super Mario All-Stars may have all technically been games available via the Virtual Console too, but they were still the exclusive 16-bit versions that weren't otherwise available (note how they didn't give us Super Mario All-Stars + Super Mario World since SMW was already on VC separately).

My guess is that this will most likely be a Wii compilation of the original GB games (with colorized updates if we're lucky):

• Kirby's Dream Land
• Kirby's Dream Land 2
• Kirby's Pinball Land
• Kirby's Block Ball

And if we're REALLY lucky:

• Kirby: Nightmare in Dream Land
• Kirby & The Amazing Mirror

The 3DS is an entirely separate platform, so there's no reason to assume its VC lineup would have any effect on preventing a GB compilation to appear on Wii.

No, it's not. Super Star is a mini-game collection. It's not a collection of Kirby games in any possible way. So this will be the first Kirby compilation game.

If this has Kirby's Dream Land 3 in it, then I'll probably get it. I'd like to have a physical form of that game, and the original cartridge would probably cost more than whatever this collection will be.

No, it's not. Super Star is a mini-game collection. It's not a collection of Kirby games in any possible way. So this will be the first Kirby compilation game.

This is mostly true, though Spring Breeze is a remake of the first Kirby's Dream Land.

Thinking about it, I really don't feel like I need any more Kirby.  The two SNES games alone are enough to get Kirby'ed out.  The gameplay doesn't change much in each game.  I'm on the lookout for a Kirby's Avalanche cartridge since that's my favourite variation of Puyo Puyo but other than that I would only get some of the other older games for collection purposes.

Kirby Super Star is the essential Kirby game.  If they include that, then this is worth picking up for someone who doesn't already own most of the games in the collection.
