WayForward games consistently look great, but they almost always disappoint when it comes to gameplay. That's disappointing, because if they could ever match up solid gameplay with the gorgeous graphics usually found in their games then they would get my vote for sure. As it stands now their list of releases has far more "misses" than "hits" for me.
Gaijin Games have been rock solid, but that is partly due to having a very limited oeuvre to choose from. The Bit.Trip series is an excellent set of games that accomplish exactly what they set out to do, and make me excited to see what other ideas the studio has for the future. Probably my favorite chioce based on what is released
right now, and good enough to get my vote.
Renegade Kid excites me the most, and I'm really eager to see what new games and ideas they bring to the table. I'm not sure there is anything from them that I really love at the moment... but I have a lot of respect for Moon and Mutant Mudds. Am I just buying into the hype here?
Nicalis definitely wins the award for coolest website (
www.nicalis.com) and has published games that I REALLY enjoy with VVVVVV and Cave Story. I would like to see more before voting for them though. Night Sky and La Mulana (if it ever arrives) might be enough? It would be nice if they did more than porting hit indie PC games... although giving awesome games access to brand new audiences isn't a bad thing.
