Lack of everything...
« on: May 16, 2003, 02:30:47 PM »
Just curious to see if anyone else noted the lack of big titles, third party games, and just about everything else this year at E3 for Nintendo.  Xbox and PS2 have so many huge things coming for this in the future, but GC had Mario Kart: Double Dash.  It isn't that same.
I am speechless.  I am without speech.

i dunno...to me its seems like the xbox had the least amount of big games coming....halo2 and fable are the big ones...but everyone knew about those. there are many big games for nintendo coming out, just not as many suprises.

I agree that there was nothing earth shattering about E3 for Nintendo this year, but we did get a solid line-up of some very interesting games.

Yeah...Square (Enix) is developing for a Nintendo consolde for the first time in nearly 10 years, the F-Zero franchise is making its appearance on GameCube, Nintendo is in a partnership with n-Space with a FPS, 3 Pokemon games were announced, two Zelda games were shown, Konami (along with Silicon Nights) is bringing their premier franchise to the GCN, MarioKart is nearly complete, Miyamoto's own Pikmin 2 was shown, three games from Sonic Team were shown (all exclusive), and Nintendo's StarFox is back in action.  Nothing too earth shattering right?  (Sorry for the sarcasm, I couldn't stop myself)
-Kenny

Now Playing: I-Ninja (GC), Pokemon LeafGreen (GBA), Nintendogs (DS), Mario Golf: Toadstool Tour (GC)
Just Finished: Legend of Zelda: Wind Waker (GC), Paper Mario: Thousand Year Door (GC) Legend of Zelda: Minish Cap (GBA)
Need money for: Advance Wars: Dual St

Actually from reading your post, no. Nothing earth shattering at all.

I find all 3 pokemon titles useless to me. It's jsut stadium and two other crappy titles. Seemslike the Pika one is gonna be like poke snap. And oen isn't even a game!

And Zelda isn't appealing either. One needs GBA connectivity, which I don't have, and I will never get.

Only a few things even got my curiosity, and that was MGS, Mario Kart, and RE 4. I heard about Killer 7, but haven't seen any previews yet, so I cannot say.

pikmin sucked. I don't care about the sequel. I don't care about the "Zelda games" or "pokemon games." The starfox game looks awful. The only games that I want are FF:CC, MGS:TTS and F-Zero. Mario Kart looks ok too, I guess.

I'm absolutely sick of complainers.  Nintendo ALWAYS(<---key word) keeps their big AAA titles secret until the game is near completion.  Notice that a majority of titles shown at E3 are nearing the ends of production.  If you want to see Mario 128, Game Zero, etc. then wait for Spaceworld.  End of discussion.

It doesn't really bother me. Nintendo has so many unaccounted for resources that we know it has a ton of secret games in development. Whether it reveals them now, at Spaceworld (and I think it's safe to assume there will be one this year), or on some randomn day over the next few months, they'll eventually get here all the same.
I'm already looking forward to more than enough GCN titles as is.

My guess is, since so many of these games are supposably entirely original and not part of existing franchises, Nintendo didn't want to show them out of fear of them being ignored in favor of the franchise games like Mario Kart. That, and it wanted the focus to be mostly on the connectivity games.

Did you actually pay attention to the E3 updates from the various video game websites before you made this thread? Or did you just want to bitch for the sheer reason of attention?

If you think Mario Kart was the only good game, then WHAT THE HELL did you find so "big" on Xbox and PS2? I don't remember Sony or Microsoft announcing kart racing games for their systems?

I'm sorry, but if you can honestly say none of the games from the future GC line-up intrest you, throw your GameCube out the window and get a yo-yo.

There was an article on Nintendojo about a week ago or two ago that said Spaceworld 2k3 was going to happen. I'll have to wait for the light version to come down before I can go digging for it. I know it was there. If it turns out to be true this would explain why Nintendo opted not to show us the new, original games they hinted were going to be present this E3.

Even if there's not a spaceworld, we'll still eventually be able to get the games.  And gads you people complain.  You were talking about the awesome games that Nintendo was going to show at E3, and when they didn't have any spectacular, blow your face off surprises, you complain.

I think Nintendo had a very quality lineup shown. Much of what they showed would've been surprising had there not been a ton leaks weeks up to the show.

To me, Nintendo wanted to spend less time blowing people away. They wanted show how they could push connectivity (which was hit and miss depending on who you talk too). They also wanted to show how they are reaching out to 3rd parties and ultimately how they are truly embracing the mature audience. That Geist thing was a suprise, particularily with the aquistion of N-Space. Couple that with recent news of a new development team being formed in Tokoyo I think the overall impression that Nintendo wants people to take away is the reality that they are gearing up for the competition.

I heard somewhere that Gamespy interviewed Miyamoto and he stated that Spaceworld is going to happen this year. This is where the big stuff that EAD and others are working on are going to be revealed I assume. E3 was really about Nintendo shedding their image as a company too set in its ways and dying like Sega was. The more I think about it, the more that comment that EA guy made seems less like hype and more like a warning to Sony and Microsoft. Nintendo is coming out of hybernation and they're pretty damn hungry.

i would say that spaceworld will happen this year
game zero must be unveiled sometime as will other good games as well
they would probably have alot of mts:ts, capcom 5, geist, and probably show more of pikmin 2, prime 2, the new mario game, and the new zelda games
they didnt have it last year since there was no point- they showed all the great stuff at that e3
why would they waste money to hold a show to demonstrate the same titles all over again
i call the big one bitey.

Nintendo should've held off their annoucnements about MGS, Mario Kart: DD, and FF: CC until E3, rather than releasing info before.

The show would've been much more full of surprises then.

I fail to see what the ruckus is about - was anyone blown away by anything at E3 for any platform?  The only announcement with far-reaching implication may be a Sony handheld, but we've expected that for quite a while and it was a natural - heck every cell phone company has a "handheld."  N wasn't going to continue the 15 yr stranglehold for much longer.

Honestly, it looks like N had some really nice exclusives and first/second party stuff.  What was expected, here?  I'm fairly certain there will be 5-10 GC games that will prove to be yards better than 99% of anything on other consoles.  The systems are 2-3 years old now and nobody is likely to be "staggered" by anything.   As much as I dislike Microsoft, I will admit knowing Halo2, Half-Life2 and Doom 3 will be in the offing (although we've known that for ages) will probably lead me to purchase the Box, but those games are BEHEMOTHS and exceptions to the rule - GC is far deeper in existing and upcoming quality than either of the other systems.

We naturally dissect everything Nintendo does.  I would have loved to see the alleged Mario 128 - but if its wasn't ready to show, I understand.  If it looked half-finished, there'd be a thousand whiners on this board about it.  I've heard it about Metroid, Wind Waker, Wario World and now I hear it about Starfox.  We know how the first two came out, I'm reasonably sure Wario will be a kick in the ass, and when the boys finish polishing Starfox to a spit-shine, we will have another top-drawer title.

Relax, Francis...

Nintendo has announced that they WILL have Spaceworld this year.  They probably weren't ready to show their big titles at E3, so they are resurrecting it for at least this year.

E3 was just fine for me, though I did expect a new Mario. But now I see some of you talking about SW this year so im fine and dandy. The only thing im dissapointed with is the Kirby's Air Ride impressions, and Sonic Heroes not being exclusive. I know Star Fox and everything else will turn out just fine.

“there was no spaceworld last year..what makes you think there will be one this year....”

Last year you could have easily said “There was a Spaceworld last year, what makes you think there won’t be one this year?”.

Anyway, I do agree Nintendo themselves had a pretty weak showing- I’ve heard MK: Doubel Dash plays really slowly, Kirby’s Air Ride is a less than perfect Mario Kart rip-off, and Pikmin 2 is a straight and forward rehash. We didn’t see the new Mario, we didn’t see Miyamoto’s new franchise, we didn’t really see antyhing we weren’t expecting- all we really got from Nintendo were gimmicky GBA connectivity titles, which I doubt will sell well at all. There were a ton of great 3rd-party games show, though- Prince of Persia I’ve heard was a surprise hit, F-Zero is great, Rebel Strike is awesome, Geist has a greast new concept- if Nintendo had matched that showing, this would’ve truly been a memorable E3. At least we still have a crapload of great games coming.
