More Resident Evil 3DS to come!?

Kawata (RE:Rev Producer) says he almost dropped all other projects to get started on it right away;D
http://ds.ign.com/articles/121/1219750p1.html
Quote
Given the fact that Capcom managed to deliver Revelations as well as Mercenaries 3D inside of the first year of the 3DS's life, and given their reception, we asked producer Masachika Kawata if he saw a future for Resident Evil on the Nintendo 3DS. Did he already have new ideas - and would he be interested in bringing them to full production?

"The incredibly positive fan reaction to Revelations has definitely given me motivation to make another 3DS RE title," Kawata told us in an interview. "I have some ideas in mind. However, I have a lot of other projects that need to be taken care of first."

That might seem like any potential and future Resident Evil projects would be a ways off, right? Not so fast, survival horror fans...

"I must admit," Kawata continued, "Hearing players say how much they enjoyed Revelations does kind of make me want to forget the other projects and get stuck right into making another RE game for fans to enjoy (laughs)."

When we conducted our interview, Revelations had just debuted in Japan and was the #1 selling game in the country. Noting that this game had a more old school, survival horror focus than other Resident Evil games, we asked if this commercial reception encouraged him to continue this approach with future installments.

"Of course!" Kawata told us.
"Game development is always a very taxing process, no matter what the project, and the only thing that gets us through is the belief that, at the end of the journey, there are people waiting to enjoy the game. So if a game sells particularly well, then we have good reason to make more titles like it."

So maybe sometime after Resident Evil 6 hits the Wii U we can get some more RE love on 3DS too!

I really hope RE6 is good.  After RE5, I have my reservations, but from the trailer it does look like they dropped the manjini, which helps.

And I like how the ending to Revelations leaves the door open to a sequel, albeit in a really stupid, clumsy, and obvious way.   Great game overall.  And how awesome is the final boss?   Possibly the best boss fight in any RE game, save for maybe Krauser in RE4.

Oh yeah, I know I have 2 sealed copies of that game.   1 is for trading.  But people who collect Amiibos?  They really have a problem!

I haven't beaten Revelations yet. I'll post impressions in the other thread.

RE6 is at the very top of my most wanted list. I hope the next trailer features some Jill. I look forward to more Resident Evil and while I like Revelations, I would have likes it more on a console. good news nonetheless.

I've played just about every RE game of note and I gotta say Revelations has surpassed even RE4 for me.

SO. FLAPPIN'. GOOD.

I don't care as much about "sticking to roots" or anything like that.  All I know is, RE4 changed the game and made it better, RE5 changed the game and made it crap, RERev tweaked past changes and made it stellar.

More RE, on 3DS, in that style. kthnxbye! ^_^

PS - RE6 better come out for either PC or (preferably) Wii U.  *shakes fist at Capcom*

Given the relationship Nintendo and Capcom have historically had, especially in recent years, I'd be pretty surprised if RE6 weren't on Wii U.

Ironically, if RE6 is less profitable then RE:Revelation we be pretty much sure to get another 3DS game.

Do we know if RE6 is going to Vita?

Right now, it's only announced for Xbox 360, PlayStation 3, and PC.

Oh it has been announced for PC? How did I miss that??

By the way, I just realized... if RE6 (and games like it) come to Wii U... will I still be able to use blissful wiimote shooting? Or do you think we will be forced to use the tablet controller since it'll be "the new thing"?

Obviously it will depend on each game, but what are your guesses as to likelihood?

The PC version (specifically Windows) just has a "TBA" release date at the moment.
I think it would depend on how much effort Capcom would want to put into a Wii U version. If they just want to do a straight port, then I think you would need to use the Wii U's controller since they could basically just use the other 360/PS3 control scheme rather than trying to alter it for the Wii Remote/Nunchuk.

The Gold Edition of Resident Evil 5 had Move support so I expect Capcom to include Move support in Resident Evil 6. That said, if the game comes to Wii U, I fully expect Wii Remote Plus support as well.

True that.  RE UC/DC were great fun and, really, more enjoyable than RE5.  However, the fact that we didn't ALSO get RE5 was a bit insulting.  And I don't want to hear how "impossible" it was... Capcom put SF4 on the dad blern iPhone!

The iPhone would have been easier to port to than the Wii for a lot of things. It supports a lot of the standard development techniques while the Wii required a lot of proprietary tech. Capcom knew that stuff better than a pretty much anyone outside of Nintendo, so they probably could have done it, but it still would have been a lot of work. If you want to be upset about something, be upset that Capcom made Umbrella and Darkside Chronicles on rails instead of the RE4 Wii styled games they were originally envisioned as.

Seems odd to complain about not getting RE5 wen you got 2 other games that you say are better than RE5. Also, have you actually played Street Fighter 4 for iPhone? It's like trying to play soccer on crutches. It looked, sounded, and played worse in every possible way. If that's what Resident Evil 5 would have been like on the Wii then back away, not today, Disco Lady.

There's no way any version of those games that would be improved enough to be worth playing would be eShop releases.

Not to mention the work that would be involved.  Weren't the backgrounds just flat images, not polygonal?   Even the GC remakes.  They would either have to remake the levels from scratch, or they would release a game where the 3D was looking like an scary Paper Mario.

I know everyone wanted a real sequel on Wii after seeing how great the RE4 update was, but it's a shame that the RE Chronicles games didn't get more love.  Yes, they are on-rail shooters.  But they were also exclusives that covered a ton of ground and detailed much of the lore and events for the entire Resident Evil series.  Those particular games are great "as is", and I honestly wouldn't have wanted that experience as a slower-paced third person game.

Also, I'd much rather see new Resident Evil content come to the 3DS/Wii U than a port of RE5. That game wasn't terrible... but really wasn't that great either.  I'd much rather have single-player action and tense game design than a high-octane fire fight with a buddy (or with a dumb AI).

Just my two cents.

Umbrella Chronicles was initially envisioned as an RE4 Wii-styled game before they decided to turn it into a rail shooter. If they'd stuck with the original idea, those games would be beloved. As it stands, they're still excellent for what they are.

I took the liberty to play RE5 to see what went wrong. A lot went wrong. The biggest problem was it wasn't a RE game anymore. If it wasn't for the characters, it would have been some sort of generic third person shooter with a functional cover system.

The worse offense was the multiple compromises done to the game in order to pry bar in the coop system. Starting with the levels themselves being no more than a bunch of strung together kill rooms moving you from one area to the next without any flow or any real motivation as to why your moving forward. The levels are so streamlined, there is no real point exploring. Nothing about the levels are atmospheric with barely any meaningful lighting applied. Way too many pointless cutscenes with no purpose pointing to a much better gameplay location.

A "high speed" but a very limited inventory system now takes place of the Tetris suitcase. It is increasingly aggravated by an AI partner that is ammo limited as you are without any human skill or consideration regarding ammo, weapon usage or proper shot placement with only 2 modes. One mode is shoot to wound while sticking close to you in order to "Cover you" or attack which switches the AI to a head shooting machine that expends ammo regardless of effectiveness.

Worse was that they cast Chris as the main protagonist and quite frankly, he is a meathead whose only expression is "Grizzled Robot". Sheva has a laughable accent that varies between English, touch of Australian, and some actual, but wholly generic African accent, but it's mostly English.

Playing on Veteran difficulty is impossible on first time out despite been available out the game and would require one to grind levels for money to upgrade guns and to skim as much ammo as possible, but eventually you will run out of ammo and the game becomes impossible. The game gives you a gun with unlimited ammo to compensate for how broken the game is on completion of normal difficulty.

RE:R avoids a lot of the traps RE5 fell into by sparating out the multiplayer component. However it does suffer somewhat by the levels dual use nature. The combat dynamic is very different to compensate for online lag and I much prefer RE4/5 combat.

In the end there hasn't been a true sequel to RE4 which did everything right. RE:R is better than RE5, but I really want a proper sequel to RE4.

The same could be said about RE4 minus the cover system part. RE4 overhauled the combat system, repositioned the camera, and even got rid of zombies. It was a better game for those changes but besides Leon, Ada and Wesker's cameo as well as the cheesey dialog, it's barely recognizable as a Resident Evil game.

Having an AI partner with Down Syndrome became far less annoying when the stun rod became available. That was the only weapon Sheva had equipped for pretty much the rest of the game and only so she wasn't completely defenseless (other than the knife). Otherwise, I had her just hold ammo for me.

RE5 is far from perfect but I still enjoyed it. Like you, I'm still waiting for a true follow-up to RE4, something that makes me feel the way I did when I first played RE4 and I hope RE6 delivers. From the debut trailer, it looks like Capcom is evolving the combat system whereas RE5 played it way too safe. Leon and Chris both do a slide move which could signal more mobility. The cover system seems overhauled as well and not simply a safe haven from harm as Chris gets grabbed by that crazy tentacle arm. The evolved cover system and slide move seem reminiscent of Vanquish. Shinji Mikami may be indirectly affecting the game's development. Vanquish's cover system was pretty insane so if Capcom lifted it from the game, I hope they tone it down considerably.
