Ghost Trick on iOS
« on: February 01, 2012, 03:31:29 PM »

For anyone who missed Ghost Trick on the DS, you accidentally overlooked one of the best portable games of 2011. Don't worry though - you're getting a second chance!  Ghost Trick is now available for download if you have an iOS system and happen to live in New Zealand.  [Edit: And now it's available pretty much everywhere.]  As an added bonus, you'll even get to play the first two chapters for free to see if this game is something you'll enjoy.

An iOS port shouldn't come as a surprise since (a) it's from Capcom, (b) there is remarkably little actual gameplay involved, and (c) it's from Capcom.  But kidding aside, this is a smart way to expose a bigger audience experience to this wonderful game. Here's hoping it works and that Ghost Trick gets the recognition it deserves!

I'm so glad this happened. The more people who get to play this awesome game, the better.

This is kind of perfect for me. I greatly dislike playing games on my iPod, especially once I get past 15 minutes. Part of this is because the vast majority of iOS games are terrible, but also good stuff like Sword and Sworcery and the original Phoenix Wright have gone more or less untouched. It's just not a gaming platform I enjoy spending any significant time with. But here, they're giving the first parts of the game away for free, so no big deal if I don't play it. And if I do get through the free stuff, I'll clearly want to keep going and buy the rest of it. So, huzzah!

Went through the first chapter, which is more or less a tutorial. The presentation and character animation is rather amazing. The entire premise/hook of the game is pretty cool too. I'm into it!

I played through the two chapter demo and loved it, but I wanted to know before buying it: Is there any advantage to getting the ~$30 DS version over the $10 iOS version?

Well, if you're paying $30 for Ghost Trick at this point, you need to shop at better stores.

I don't own the iOS version, but can't imagine any reason why the DS release would be better.  My recommendation: get whichever you can find cheaper.  (Do take into account trade/resale value for the DS version since the game - as great as it is - has basically no replay value.)

Putting this out on iOS is excellent because it opens up the game to a (mostly) new audience. Hopefully it will find even more fans.
