SMA4 looks FUNKED UP!
« on: May 14, 2003, 05:36:14 PM »
Dude, seriously, Super Mario Advance 4 looks very funky... in a good way. Going through the levels of Super Mario Bros 3, with powers and enemies from Super Mario World and Super Mario Bros 2... not to mention downloadable levels from the ereader...

I guess this is why it took so long to get SMB3 to the GBA... they wanted to give probably the most beloved Mario sidescroller the most royal treatment of them all... this is one remake I'll be getting.

I really hope there is a classic option.  So I can play the original in all its glory.  Later I can freak it out with some funky fresh new moves.

I don't know if this is accurate, but based on the E3 video, I think this is the complete Super Mario All Stars collection. I saw footage of this game, including it's SMB1 and SMB2 segments with the spiffed up graphics of All Stars, and this leads me to believe that this is not just SMB3, but in fact every game that appeared in Super Mario All Stars. A port of the entire All Stars, if you will.

Considering that all the games on All-Stars have already been ported to the GBA (except SMB1, which was done on the GBC.  I don't think the Lost Levels have been ported either) I would doubt that this game would contain all of those games.  What I do think is going on is that Nintendo is taking elements of those games, and mixing them into the SMB3 world.  Either added to the old levels, or added as bonus levels.  It may even be the case that my idea from several months ago of a SMB3 with an entirely new world/set of worlds might be coming our way.  Think about it.  You beat Bowser in World 8, and instead of going to credits there is some sort of little cut scene, and then you go to World 9!  The extra worlds would have elements of SMB2 and SMW in them.  Like the turnips and the cape.  Yoshi would get in on the action as well.  As long as there is an option to play the original levels they could even add these things to the current set of SMB3 levels.  It would change how the game was played, making for my replay value.

This would also feed everyone's need for a new Mario game on the GBA, but would be even better because you would be getting the best mario game along with it, and it would play very similar to the best.

What I really want to know is if the Comunication option that PGC said was disabled in the demo does.  Is it just for playing link battles?  Perhaps there is something else it can do.  You could do a set up where one play is Luigi, and the other is Mario.  Players would play the same level at the same time and have to race to the finish.  The winner (either by time or coins collected) would then get to control the overworld and and pick the next stage.  This would be such a freaking cool feature.

Yes that is indeed the case Jollus.  Hopefully the downloadable levels and features will be worthwhile.

This is going to be what keeps the e-Reader around.

The only problem I see is that it is going to require two GBAs.  Not a huge problem for me because I have my old GBA and my new GBA SP, but for many it might be trouble.  But I guess Nintendo think everyone is already going to own 2 or 3 GBAs in order to play Four Swords and Tetra's Trackers

I really wish there would be an option to play SMB3 in classic mode.  I really prefer the game to be unchanged, the NES classic.  That's me.

And to bring back the memories!  Mario and Nintendo were my childhood.  *sniff*

I'd also love to have an option to play the classic mode, with all those graphical bugs. Remember the green fireballs? How I missed them.
If the graphics are bad, I'll ignore them.
If the style's been used before, I won't care. I don't get sick of styles.
If the story is weak, I'll make up my own.
I only care about gameplay.
