The Binding of Isaac will include its first and only expansion, "The Wrath of the Lamb," in the planned 3DS version, Edmund McMillen mentioned in an e-mail exchange with Joystiq.

When asked about the 3DS version of the game, McMillen stated that it is being planned. "The only news I have on the 3DS is that it seems possible but it's still going through higher ups to make sure there won't be an issue with the 'religious' aspect," he said.

If the 3DS version isn't approved, McMillen remains optimistic about its appearance on other platforms. "If we don't land the 3DS, the publisher I'm talking to has expressed interest in other digital platforms and is currently contacting them as well about the port." Previous, McMillen stated that it would not be ported to other platforms.

Should the 3DS version be approved, it will include "The Wrath of the Lamb," which promises to have 50% more content over that of the original version.

According to Wikipedia, the plot of the game is that it's a spinoff of the Bible story of the same name. It's designed like the NES Zelda game.

Is Nintendo officially licensing this? I thought they had a policy against religious games, because I remember back on the NES there was some 3rd party bible based games that Nintendo refused to license so the developer went and manufactured their own cartridges, as well as devised methods to circumvent the NES' lockout chip. I just wonder if the reason Nintendo refused to license those games is because they were religious, or if it was some other reason. Of course, Nintendo's policies have probably changed a lot since back then.

In the case of the NES, it was because the company involved didn't want to pay licensing costs, the SNES/Genesis was really the last time companies released unlicensed games on consoles. The way Nintendo was at that time, they probably would have been happy with a wholesome religious game.

It sounds interesting, so I hope Nintendo gives them permission to release it on 3DS.

I have not played this game at all, but based on the information I gathered for this news story as well as some videos that I watched, it isn't really a Bible story, more like how religious dementia can be really dangerous. It's a very dark story filled with tons of black humor (again based on videos that I saw), so I will be surprised if this makes it onto the 3DS.

I hate to see games turneddown for content. Quality yes, content No.
But if the game is allowed, how will that effect the companies PR.
For that matter, if they say No cause its religious Based(supposedly) how
will that effect the way people view Nintendo, will it be spinned as Nintendo
hates religion?
I for one dont care and wont buy it even if it gets Overall GOTY.

NES Nintendo was very restrictive, modern Nintendo has given up on restrictions. Binding of Isaac is about the way children perceive the stories in the bible and other morality stories that parents tell their children that involve punishment for the guilty. And a lot of jokes.

So its a parody of the bible and religion? Well, that's probably just as bad or even worse than if it had been pro-bible/religion. If the game is released, wouldn't it spark controversy?

It's not that big on the religion really. Most of it is just the standard evil side of the Christian beliefs, i.e. Satan, the four horsemen of the apocalypse, the seven deadly sins and so on and even that is only fairly minor (the good side only gets a few items in, a bible, a crucifix, a rosary and a crown of thorns, all of them powerups). Also the game is never explicit about many of the evil things that are hinted at (e.g. many interpret the way some of the enemies and powerups look as the result of abortions but another interpretation is that they're stillbirths that the mother has kept and given names to).


Also the jokes are separate from the religious stuff, they're mostly references to videogames and internet memes.
