Audio guides no more, the 3DS is the new way to tour the French museum.

The Louvre museum will begin to replace its audio guides with Nintendo 3DS units this upcoming March.

The 5,000 units being donated by Nintendo will serve many functions in the museum. Visitors will be able to determine their location within the museum, choose themed itineraries, and listen to recorded commentaries. Nintendo is developing the content while the Louvre has editorial control.

This is not the first time a Nintendo handheld has been used in a museum. Modified DS systems were used in Shigureden, a museum dedicated to an anthology of poems that were turned into a card game.

That sounds legitimately awesome. I'm guessing they will take advantage of the 3D and put 3D images/videos on there for the tour.
