I laughed heartily when I read this article.  The X-Box smash hit is arriving on the PC in better quality than the original.  I, honestly, was expecting it to be a watered down version of the original, but to see that it has been improved.  Good to see I didn't spend $$$ in the past to buy the X-Box only for Halo when I can get a better version now.  Oh well.  There is always Halo 2 for current X-Box owners.

Any opinions?
What's that smell?

Nah, I was expecting Bungie to do the port good.    It's just like I said... what reason is there to get an Xbox?  I know that on any other board, I would be beat down as a fanboy for saying that, but I just really don't see the slightest reason to buy one, as none of the exclusive games are of any worth IMO.

Too bad Bungie does not have anything to do with Halo on PC. Gearbox is doing the port - Bungie said they don't have time to even think about the long forgotten PC version of Halo. Gearbox is just porting Halo to PC, optimizing code as it goes along, and adding in online and stuff.
Anyway, I'll finally get to own Halo...even if it is 2 years late. At least I'll be able to play it in 1280x1024 with my kickin' Geforce4 Ti4400...

You know, when Halo was being made for the PC, I was looking forward to it.

When Bungie sold their soul to MS, I've vowed never to buy Halo for the PC.  Or play it for that matter.

Even early previews of Halo, when it was still XB and PC, said the XB version is a bit dumbed down for action fans, the PC version emphasizes strategy a lot more.

I am personally not into games of it's type.  I won't be getting it, as I have no interest in the game, but congrats to everyone who wanted it.

Many reasons, one being that I played and beat Halo almost a year and a half ago....waiting would have sucked.

Also, have you seen the 8-minute video for in-game Halo 2?  Awesome........

And as for "dumbed down"???  Try Halo in "heroic" or "legendary" and you will quickly drop the "dumbed down" comments.

Read what KDR_11k said, KatDaddy, before opening your mouth.  It doesn't say "easier," it says simpler.  There's a difference.

I hope there is a downloadable demo. I don't plan on buying the game twice, but it would be neat to check it out on the PC anyway (even if my PC sucks [])

Well, it's online, which should warrant a purchase right there
Plus, there is a rocket warthog and you can use the Banshee fighter in multiplayer. And there are a bunch of new maps. And mouse and keyboard control! Weee...

Heh, I guess none of you guys realized that it is very possible to beat the entire game by using kill, hide, regenerate shield, repeat method. I can now beat the entire game just by sound.

Hmmm....that's funny.  I made a direct quote from the above forum poster, and even the response after says "Woah, good to know this will be a lot harder".

Before correcting me, get your stuff straight.  I don't see "easier" or "simpler" anywhere in either quote.  Or mine either.....

I meant: Halo XB is focussed more on action, while Halo PC focusses a lot more on teamwork and tactics. I think the developers said something about console gamers preferring simpler, more action-oriented games.

I heard that there were a few perks that the PC community are getting such as a few more multiplayer maps, online gameplay (which you can do on the Xbox through XBconnect), and a couple of other minor things...But I also saw a quote from Bungie and the other dev doing the port that the "gameplay" itself did not change, that it was just a little more balanced in areas.  Can you provide a link to the article that you're speaking of that talks about the teamwork aspect?

If it's "alot better" so to speak, I'd might look into getting it for the PC, too.  But there's nothing like kicking some butt in Halo on a 55" HDTV with digital surround sound from the comfy leather recliner, if you know what I mean....

What is their projected release date for Halo/PC?

A few facts,

Halo PC single player will be the SAME as the Xbox version.

Gearbox is adding a few maps & modes for the online version.

I'm a bit worried about the netcode--which is key IMO.

By the time this is out Halo 2 will be very near. It won't get much attention. From a port of a game from 2 years ago, by the time the PC version gets out, I'd expect more then minor upgrades.

What the shame is that now that someone through out some un-informed comment that halo is easy on xbox, is now going to stick in the heads of gc fans. Even though several more xbox fans shot it down. They will take it with them, and bring it up later. It happens everywhere.

For example.

One person: DOA 3 looks good.

2nd person: Oh I played it and its just a button masher.

3rd person: gives reasons why thats wrong

4th person: backs up 3rd person

5th person: Elaborates why person 2 was wronge.

6th person lurking in the background reads.

Next day....

new person: I'm interesting in trying DOA3 etc. etc. etc.

6th person from before: Oh I heard thats just a button masher.

Point being. They will wait until they here what they want to here, and then spread that around.

Dead or alive isn't a button masher, but then again it isn't something new, I played the almost identical game on DC.

And as for Halo 'being hard' I have already commented on that. You know, there are some of us who still are very hardcore about FPS, so before you open your mouth about how my head is up my butt, look around.

I cannot post a link, as it was in a magazine (PCGames). The issue is pretty old, too (around the time of the first Halo previews with playable versions) so I doubt I can still find it.

That was an example, and I don't think I'm some how obligated to defend it now. I'll leave that job for "hardcore" gamers to defend every aspect of said console.

I knew about this when Halo first came out. But that's okay. As for it not getting attention: Some of us PC users didn't sell out to X-Box's crappiness and are eagerly anticipating this.

I'm gettin' it, but it won't compare to Halo on Xbox at all. The Xbox version will still be the better version. But one thing's for sure, Microsoft has already stated that Halo will be the only PC version, and Halo 2 will not be released on PC. Mainly because it's engines are built for Xbox and Xbox only.
