Gamefreak has teh detales on teh Capcom Five! It's teh Megaton!!!11!

Anyway, Resident Evil 4 and Product Number 03 will be exclusive to GCN for sure...As for the others, Dead Phoenix is sort of in a coma. Viewtiful Joe is only in development for the GCN and they haven't even thought about porting it (The producer claimes if Joe doesn't sell well he can't make games anymore), but it's not out of the question. As for Killer 7, it's a little too early, but it will probably stay exclusive, but like Joe, nothing is certain.
I'm not sure about Gotcha Force, my guess is that it's a sealed deal too like RE4 and P.N.03...

Whoa, whoa, whoa here guys. The Magic Box is making the mistake of trying to interpret the news rather than report it. And they interpreted the news wrongly on top of that. Nowhere does it say that Capcom is cutting GCN support.
Here's the expected numbers for next year (which goes until the end of March 2004)
They expect GCN sales to be 2.2 million, down from 3.23 million this past year.
They expect Xbox sales to be 800,000, up from 280,000 this past year.
They still expect 1.4 million more sales from GCN compared to Xbox.
Why do they expect lower sales? Ask yourself this, what big name games from Capcom are coming out from now until the end of March 2004? None really. This is more a case of expecting lower sales rather than cutting games. Dead Phoenix is not dead, they just said there's nothing new to report on it. And the other games are still coming, although as alluded earlier V. Joe and Killer 7 may go multiplatform whereas P.N. 03 and RE4 are still exclusive.
Why do they expect more sales from Xbox this year (although still being much lower than GCN)? Simple, Dino Crisis 3 is releasing in a few months and that is considered a big game for Xbox. In fact, I think it's more telling that they only expect total sales of their Xbox games to be 800,000. Considering how long DC3 has been in development wouldn't you think they'd expect higher sales?
And all this crap about the exlusivity of the RE franchise should really stop. RE4 isn't coming out until (at the earliest) April 2004 in Japan which means a likely Christmas 2004 release here in NA. And if the next systems are supposed to come out in 2005 that would be the last RE game on the current consoles. And I suspect Nintendo will surprise a lot of people with their next system. Keep in mind that Yamuchi (I can't remember how you spell his name but you know who I mean) was in charge of the GCN but Iwata will be in charge of the next Nintendo machine and he's proven that he's not stuck in the past and unwilling to change.

I agree. it must be some sort of misinterpretation. With the RE: Online and Dino Crisis games coming out, of course XBox and PS2 sales should be expected to jump. Perhaps they were expecting PN03 to sell better here, and we're just cutting back expectations after its stumble in Japan. I think this sounds mostly like American gaming sites predicting doom for Nintendo again, and misinterpreting stuff to fit their opinions.

I just got an answer from Capcom about an email I sent them when I read this.

Original email:
Quote

I just read on The Magic Box that Capcom is going to favor Xbox and PS2 consoles in the future, above GameCube.  Might I inquire why that is?  GameCube sales were the only ones that met expectations, and we didn't get nearly as many games as the PS2 in the last year.  It just doesn't make good business sense to me to cut support to the gamers who appreciate your work the most.  Is this a misquote?

Many of my fellow GameCube owners feel sort of shafted by this news, as we have bought your games, and love them to death, and now we get repaid for our patronage by not recieving as many games on our system of choice.

Any enlightenment as to the reasoning behind this, or simply a note saying that the news was in error would be appreciated.

Hello,

Thank you for contacting Capcom.  In regards to your inquiry, if you
take a look at the titles we've announced at E3, you can see how this is
not true.  We have many great titles that are currently in production
for this console as well as the other consoles.  We will be sure to let
you and all our avid fans know of any new developments as they arise.
You should continue to monitor our website at www.capcom.com for the
latest information regarding Capcom news.

I wouldn't be suprised at all. If this is true, I'm sure microsoft is making it worth it for them.

I wish companies would focus on making great games, not making money.

That's a bunch of crap! How is Capcom going to develop more games for the PS2 and xbox? They can't just ditch us cube fans!? Capcom must be run by the dumbest people! If they do that, then the Gc will fall completely! Who thinks this is true!?
The cube is mightier than the box.

Why are you guys so worried. As long as the Capcom 5 come out, what is there to complain about? Who cares if they are exclusive or not, we are still going to buy them and support both Nintendo and Capcom. Which in return, Capcom will make more and better games.

Besides, we have RE4 exclusive, which is expected to be one of the biggest games of 2004.

Hm...the email you got Grey Ninja, it reads a little generic, they don't mention what console it is, they just say 'this console'.
But there isn't anything to be too worried about though, GCN looks to have good stuff coming.
RE4 being Capcoms most anticipated game and should really capitalise on this!

not to mention....they arent going to answer...."yes, we here at capcom are ditching all our fans that own a gamecube".....of course they are going to say "blablabla its not true blablabla". this is a direct quote from the article.

"Capcom is planning to publish fewer number of titles for GameCube and GameBoy Advance, and increase support for PlayStation 2 and Xbox." and here is the chart

Platform
PlayStation 2
GameCube
Xbox
GameBoy Advance

Actual Sales in 2002
6,830,000
3,230,000
280,000
4,830,000

Originally Planned 2002
8,750,000
3,200,000
600,000
 --

Forecast for 2003
7,600,000
2,200,000
800,000
2,040,000

it doesnt make sense when the gc more then met its expectations(and i am sure gba did as wel) that they are lowering development for it. but as someone else pointed out.....maybe it just so happens that there just happen to be not many games coming out from capcom this year. hopefully capcom sees the good sales and increases overall game output to the cube.

First: its on MAGIC BOX.. they post everything and anything to try and sound "exclusive" even when THEY know its a big pile of bull.  Then they go through the quickest anylazation they possibly can.  I never trust them.

Regardless,  Capcoms expectations for this year went down for cube/GBA, simply because of the lack of games coming out.  Most of the "capcom 5" won't be hitting untill someone next year, the only *major* title this year for the cube is Viewtiful Joe and PN. 03.   They probably also took PN O3's sales in japan as a hint and lowered the expectations a little bit.

They are also currently coming out with a few major games for PS2/XBOX this year.

They try to cater to every system, If we had more games, PS2 owners would be bitching.  Xbox owners are always bitching, but microsoft has money-hats, so they can buy whatever they want.

Capcom isn't cutting any support, I think they've actually just delayed games till next fiscal year, so they will be better.  Which will allow better sales in the future.

Well, here's the breakdown of what Capcom expectations are (taken from IGN)

PS2- 31(!) titles totaling 7.6 million units
Onimusha 3- 700,000 in Japan
Onimusha Blade Warriors- 300,000 in Japan and 100,000 in NA
RE: Outbreak- 500,000 in Japan and 700,000 in NA
They expect (on average) to only sell a little less than 250,000 per game. Now, of course game like RE: Outbreak and Onimusha 3 are way over that average so that means they must expect some bad sales on some of their other games.

Xbox- 5 titles totaling 800,000 units
Dino Crisis 3- 60,000 in Japan and 300,000 in NA and 220,000 in Europe
They expect the other 4 games they release on Xbox to only sell a combined 220,000. That's 55,000 per game, spread across an unknow amount of regions.

GCN- 7 titles totaling 2.2 million units
No numbers but this doesn't include RE 4 at all.
They expect (on average) to sell a little less than 315,000 units per game.

GBA- 9 titles totaling 2.04 million units
No numbers here either.
They expect (on average) to sell just over 225,000 units per game.

If you look at it like this then you see that Capcom actually expects higher average sales on the GCN than any other platform. Makes you wonder why they don't bring more games to the GCN if they feel that way. Of course, to be fair, I'm sure the PS2 average is weighed down by small niche titles (many of them unannounced at this time) that won't sell well despite being good games.
