lack of good teen or mature games
« Reply #25 on: May 12, 2003, 11:51:33 AM »
SNES, one of the most popular and succesful game systems, which had over 1000 games had only one Mature title, Ultimate Mortal Kombat 3.  NES, which was even bigger, had none. Neither Xbox, Ps2, Psx, DreamCast, or anything had as much fans and games as the SNES, yet they all had tons of M rated games.  Its not that we dont have enough Mature games, its that we dont have enough Mature gamers.

Kiddy Nintendo = making money

Mature Microsoft = losing money

They have competed pretty well so far. What makes you think they suddenly need mature games to compete?

I am so bored.

Nintendo doesnt even care about competing with M$ or Sony. They make quality games and they makes lots of money. M$ is going to lose something like 2 billion by 2004 if not more, how long do you think it will take them to make that back if ever. I have an XBox too and Halo was great. When is Halo II coming out??? Next year... maybe? Nintendo has a killer list of games coming out this year with plenty more on the way for nect year. If I wanted a really good FPS that was mature I would get a PC. Oh wait, I guess I have a PC already. So if you want great PC games get them. If XBox/Sony are soooo get get one. I for one really enjoy playing my GC.

Ok...since no one seems to have the answer, I'll tell this kid why.

Why don't Nintendo get exlusive "mature" FPS games? Because it doesn't want to. Nintendo doesn't care about FPS games. Nintendo of America might want one for over here, but it would probably come from a third party. And NCL wouldn't bother spending money to make it exclusive so it would end up being multiplatform. If Retro Studios or NST ever does an FPS that's probably the closest you'll come. Or maybe Zoonami after they release Game Zero. Don't count on Nintendo's other main studios - Intelligent Systems, Silicon Knights, EAD, the new Tokyo studio, or HAL Labs ever doing an FPS.

Oh, and Factor 5 I guess is a candidate, but they don't exactly have too much experience/interest in that category. Rare was the only Nintendo developer that cared about FPS games, and they are gone and a lot of the Goldeneye/Perfect Dark people are at either Zoonami or Free Radical now. So unless NCL gets a sudden urge to force Zoonami into an FPS or buy it's way into an exclusive new Timesplitters, it won't happen.

And this thread has probably gone as far as it will go...someone close it please...not this MS vs. NCL crap again..

There really isn't such a thing as a kiddy game. PS2 and Xbox are new to the world of gaming. If it wasn't for Nintendo and Sega there would even be a gaming market in the first damn place. Hey fat troll dude you know where you can go.

all right, enough of this, it is just my "opinion" that gamecube needs more games to appeal to more people.  i was wandering if anyone knew of any good fps, etc. were coming out for the gamecube.  sorry if i offended anyone, that is just my opinion.

It can hardly be called an opinion when what you posted was intended not only as pure and utter flame bait but to be interpretted as fact. Don't you have better things to do?

lol...  This thread is funny.  jc24, I don't really feel like giving you an explanation on where your question went wrong, but I just have one question for you.  How old are you?

I think you're being harsh on jc24, but I do agree with everyone else.  Out of all the games on Gamecube out there, the only mature one that I really want is Killer 7, and I still have to see how it develops.  I have a few teen games, but I just get the games I think I'll like, and I agree with PIAC. . . the "kiddie" games are fun.

Yeah, we are being totally harsh on him, but I think that we are all sick of hearing that question.  A game's worth is not determined by its rating, but by its content.

I didn't even look twice at Smuggler's Run, I played GTA3 based on all the hype, and I hate it.  I haven't even bothered trying Dead to Rights or Red Faction 2 yet, and the list goes on and on.

On the other hand, I love Splinter Cell, Zelda: Wind Waker, Mario Sunshine, Eternal Darkness, Resident Evil, Rogue Leader, Animal Crossing, and Pikmin.

What does this say?

Then you must be an insane, stupid, uncool idiot

Nah, that sounds like a good choice of games to me.  Well, for the most part.

THe guy's posting total flame bait- if you take him seriously and actually post a rebuttal to what he said in his initial post you're only going to encourage him to do it again.

mature ratred titles i own for gcn
Resident Evil
Rsident Evil 0
Eternal Darkness

T rated titles i own for gcn
Super Smash Bros. Melee
Starfox Adventures
Metroid Prime
Summoner: Godess Reborn(though it sucks...but eh it was cheap..k-mart was going out of business)

E Rated Games i own
Luigi's Mansion
Wave RAce: Brue Storm
Super Mario Sunshine
Animal Crossing
Zelda: TWW
Zelda: OOT % Masterquest(great wonderfull free game)

Now im probably going to get two of these three games...
Mortal Komabt: DA, Tom Clancy's Splinter Cell, or Def Jam Vendetta...i knoew i like MKDA and DKV..but i havnt gotten much play on splintercell except the demo aat the store(which really sucks because games like mgs or TCSC have to be played in the privacy of your home)

now there are more mature games on the cube then the ones i have...but not every game is great and i am very  picky. Games like Wave Race dont really need a rating for obvious reasons...

I can understand what your really trying to say...i would myself like some serious themed games..if thats what your thinking..but your use of the word mature is foul and you seem to be leaning on flame bait. Or master...

i am dissapointed, i have been gaming for a good 15 years and alot of you youngins were exposed to gamign at a different time. Do you know what its liek to have all games look alike? Essentially in the nes days there were lots of games..but nonme of them really looked that much better then the other. There were games like mario bros, metal gear, castlevania, contra, kirby and none of them were extremely violent or had blood(cept n.a.r.c.). The only thing that made a game cool was how fun it was. Now you have ultra alesome graphics in everythign and most people do is bitch. I remember you in anotehr thread commenting how kiddy pacman was. What the  fuck! Seriously you were probably not even born when pacman came out..have you even played that game...do you know how incredibly hard it was? Go in an arcade and look for it sometime and prepare tohave your quarters eaten.

anywyas i hope this thread just quietly dies heading into the old thread graveyard....
