lack of good teen or mature games
« on: May 12, 2003, 08:50:37 AM »
i'm losing all faith in the gamecube to ever be able to compete with xbox or ps2 in the teen or mature games category.  especially in first person shooters.  the one that they have "metroid prime" is no competition with games like halo.  why is nintendo letting a perfectly good system go to waste with kiddie games?

Even though this is simply a FLAME BATE topic, I will respond.

Nintendo had some of the best MATURE titles on the market, ever hear of Eternal darkness? What about the upcoming MGS made by silicon knights, or too human?

I agree the cube could use a good influx of shooters along the lines of timesplitters 2, but to say it lacks mature games just isnt all that factual, and trust me I use to feel the same way you do.

More violent games would be great, but the problem is not with nintendo as they dont make violent games, it is with the third parties not making their violent stuff for the cube.

So lay the blame where it should be laid.

i'm just stating what i've seen.  i was wanting to know if there are any good mature fps type games coming out, don't just call me a flamer.  i just think in order for the cube to compete they have to release some exclusive "M" games (specifically fps) to compete with games like halo 2.

serious sam, that'll be huge i'm sure.  it already came out for xbox and didn't have any kind of impact because of the fps competition on xbox.  i'm talkin really big 1st party exclusives, something original.

Metal Gear is so kiddy.

im going to tell you something bud..on four button controllers...shooters suck. Big reason why goldeneye didnt have any shooter competition on the more popular playstation and why no one gives a crap about them now. Hell even with xbox six button controllr where the buttons are so mangled they made it so you had to use the  joysticks to strafe and whatnot...one of the most annoying setups i ever dealt with.  For shooters you can either have 6 button controllers n64 style(xbox blck and white buttons werent really used and their not even really accessable) or you can use a pc mouse and a keyboard....

i guess Sony better get some exclusive shooter out too..or else they'll never ever be able to compete with Halo 2. Oh wait the Japanese hate first person shooters.

why can't Microsoft sell a game or a system in Japan..you know everything. Also, how much money do you think MS has made on its little green box? Give me a big Negative number. Strugling. My ass they make 3 times as much money on software sales then Sony check the npd.

don't give me this japan crap.  i don't live in japan and could care less why they don't like xbox.  the point is nintendo is falling behind both sony and microsoft and i believe it's because it's viewed as a little kid's system.  a good way to change that would be to bring out some good mature "exclusive" gamecube games.  one or two good "EXCLUSIVE" fps wouldn't hurt either.  you say the controller's too small for shooters.  who's fault is that?

also...  why do you think microsoft is losing so much money on their system and nintendo and sony are making so much?  could it be that the xbox (with its 8 gb hard-drive, dvd player, modem, more powerful video card etc. etc.) cost  a lot more to make?  anyway, that hasn't seem to phase microsoft, they've already said they're in this for the long run.

who cares if they're falling behind?  So what do you expect us to do about it?  go buy an xbox.  The GC is obviously for Nintendo games.  To me, "teen" has worse connotations than "everyone" or "kids" ever did.  What book for teenagers was ever a thought-provoking classic?  At least good "kids" stories are chalkful of meaningful themes, ideas, and archetypal allegory/metaphor.  There are very few truely mature games out there.  Videogames are for the immature, and that is why I like them.

Oh, and FPS games (besides Goldeneye and Halo) suck.

I know this is flame bait, but I find it ridiculous that we see threads like this on NINTENDO boards.

Yes, GC is not doing as hot as Nintendo would like, but Microsoft is not either. The both of them are getting undeniably destroyed the PS2. While I agree that an exclusive, mature game would do a lot for Nintendo, the reality is that these things do not come out of thin air. It takes a minimum of 18 months to make a playable game from the ground up, so don't expect a GTA killer next week.

I suggest that we all wait until the end of the year to cleary see what Iwata has planned, because the pre E3 buzz has at least shown me that a lot behind the scenes stuff has been going to directly address Nintendo's issues. The company is listening but they can only move so fast.

Oh my god! jc24 is right! I just looked at my collection of GCN games and realized that I don't have a single exclusive "mature" FPS title!

I have been in fault for all these years, oh I feel so horrible... I suppose the only solution would be to sell my GCN and go out and get a Xbox where these mature titles can be found. Oh thank you jc24 for pointing out this fault in my console, and opening my eyes.

I know this is off the subject but I wish my GC had more LAN capabilities.  I'm not bashing the cube but, I just wish there was more.  That would be awesome.

Aren't games like Rogue Squadron or Spider-Man rated E? Everyone forgets about these types of games when considering the "maturity" of a console. If it's an E game, it's automatically assumed to be bright coloured and directed at children.

"still no one has answered my question?"

No one's answered it because it's quite obvious it was the product of hours of deliberation by your sick, twisted mind that gets some kind of queer pleasure out of starting fights for the sake of it. It's obvious that you opinion is as completely and utterly groundless as you claim ours is and you couldn't persuasively back up your opinion if your life depended on it. I fail to see how coming into a forum you know very well is populated by Nintendo fans, then, for lack of a better word, BASHING their system somehow makes you cool? Do you honestly think that you're going to come out on top of this? Maybe I've already fallen to your maniacle plot as it is, but if you had half a brain left in that dank cavern you desperatly try to pass off as a skull, you would've stayed in your room watching American Idol rather than wasting your time here. Every second you think your opinion actually means something here is a second you could've spent living your pathetic life elsewhere.
