Did Miyamoto promise a realistic Zelda next?
« on: May 11, 2003, 11:42:48 AM »
Over at Kikizo.com, under their "E3 preview", towards the end of that article, they say that Miyamoto has promised a realistic Zelda for GameCube.
Does anyone in this forum recognize any of that? It´s a big movie- and gamewebsite so they should know what they talk about!

Go read the article, and give us some feed-back on this!

For, while the Wind Waker is quite nice, it´s still too kiddie, too cutesy and does not appeal to me in any way near the way that OOT did. I know many others out there feel the same way, but they play it anyway - well - because it´s...Zelda!

Master Quest rocks by the way!

They misread a quote of his- he said if he felt that the best direction for the next Zelda is a realistic approach, he wouldn't hesitate to do so. He mainly said it in response to the allegations that he doesn't think realistic Zelda would work at all. So it's possible the next Zelda will be realistic but in no way concrete.

Unless it just recently happened, no, he never promised a more realistic Zelda next.
He did promise there would be another Zelda on the Gamecube and said it MIGHT be more realistic.
I doubt it will be anything like the SW2K demo though. If it doesn't use cel-shading, it will probably just look more like Super Mario Sunshine. Not entirely cartoonish like Wind Waker is, but not really realistic either. But, considering how positive the reviews have been, I think the next game will probably be cel-shaded too. Most of the reviewers agree the cel-shading actually adds to the game. Assuming Nintendo pays attention to the reviews its games get, I think we'll see a lot more cel-shading from Nintendo in the future.

Basically what Miyamoto said is, he couldn't imagine adult Link in a cel-shaded anime game. He said if the theme of the next Zelda game is like Ocarina of Time and has adult Link he wouldn't hesitate to make it realistic. At the same time, if it's light hearted and has young Link all the way through, he might make it cel-shaded.

What I personally want, is cel-shaded, but realistic, like the game art for Ocarina of Time and Soul Calibur 2. Leaning more towards Ocarina art, since it's so much better than the Soul Calibur 2 art...go figure.

I agree, gamefreak- as much as Wind Waker was touted as an interactive cartoon, there were parts that looked pretty darn realistic in an artistic sort of way (like when the Tower of the Gods rose from the sea). If they did the next Zelda in an artisitc yet realistic way, I think I'd like it's style even more than Wind Waker's.

I loved everything about WW and could care less if the next Zeld is was more realistic or still cell shaded. I just didn't like how easy it was, the only thing that almost killed me was fighting all them bad guys on Outset, falling into the holes over 50 times past the chart to get that single heart piece.

Nintendo does read the reviews of their games, becuase of the Sunshine's reviews Zelda was made to be much easier. If whats shown at the end of the last Nintendo power is true then im guessing we will at least be using an adult Link in the next game.

I would definitely rather have a cel-shaded realistic Link (like the artwork) than a normal realistic Link, why you ask? Becuase who hasn't tried to draw that artwork and imagined how badass it would be if Nintendo incorperated those drawings into real games.

But you realize it would have to be done on a different engine than WW becuase that wasn't realistic enough, so they would have to make a new engine or modify the old one, which would take a long time. But hey, it would be worth it.

I seriosly doubt that nintendo would not use the ww engine on the next zelda, and who cares anyway? as long as the next zelda is a little harder, i couldnt really care less if its cell shaded or not....

ITS STILL ZELDA!

The art and detail in Wind Waker was phenomenal. I want all Nintendo's games to incorporate this level of detail. This alone would get their games high marks.
I absolutely love the bosses. It may be a cartoon, but it's a damn realistic one.

I agree with everyone that they should continue to use cel-shaded graphics but use the art style from Ocarina. It's the best way to try and reach a middle ground with the graphics since you get the best of both worlds.

Too bad they won't be able to even come close to the detail of the hand drawn Ocarina of Time artwork using any sort of in-game engine this generation.
