Mario Tennis will be released on Nintendo 3DS, Nintendo announced at the 3DS conference in Japan. The game will be released in 2012, and will feature optional gyroscope control.

The video showed at the conference spotlighted Mario, Luigi, Peach, and Bowser playing tennis together. Although it is unknown who is developing the title, the previous Mario Tennis games on Nintendo 64, Gamecube, and Game Boy systems were developed by Camelot.

If this is another RPG-styled Mario Tennis from Camelot I'm incredibly giddy about this news. Mario Tennis for GBC is my favorite handheld game ever.

I rather it be based off of Mario Tennis for Virtual Boy.  That is my particular favorite.  Still excited.  Tennis is a good 3D game.  Now can they give me Mario Clash?

I'm not that familiar with the VB game, but it seems to me that the two aren't mutually exclusive. You could take the gameplay of the VB game with the RPG trappings of the Camelot titles.

The biggest thing about the VB game is that the Tennis mechanic was solid and I'm fairly sure it doesn't have the Super Shots.  Which I've never found really fun.

That would be the reason the GBC Mario Tennis is my favorite and not the GBA one, which I hate. 10/10 my ass.

It'll be interesting to see who's developing it, because I thought Camelot was done making Mario games. Though I forget if they actually said that, or if it was just an assumption based on their absence. If it isn't them, I may not be on board.
