Zach complains about a game conceived just for him. The culprit: crummy gameplay.

2. The main problem I have with both Yoshi's Island games is that to get 100, you have to do everyting in one pass. If you miss anything, you have to start the level over.
5. After the second song, I thought this might be Pokemon Channel* (the song is an orchestral track dating back to season 1 of the anime). Song three nailed as PokePark for me, however. We actually don't play any music originally from this game on the station (PIRN) for a few reasons:
 
1. There's not a good way to get a clean version of the music in the game.
2. Most of the tracks are quite short (we try not to play songs that are under a minute).
3. The game's musical staff is basically the same as the Pokemon Ranger: Guardian Signs, which could create DMCA artist conflict issues.

*Pokemon's tribute to INXS: Make My Video, by the way.

Yeah, this was definitely in Zach's wheelhouse between 2, 3 and 5.

4: You're not the only one on staff who didn't remember this one, TYP - there's still no NWR review for it yet. It's a turn-based battle system that has a combo element, which starts out annoying but quickly becomes quite easy to abuse with some light grinding.

It's a stock story that borrows EXTREMELY HEAVILY from Chrono Trigger, which makes sense considering they share a scenario writer as well as Mitsuda's music. How you react to the concept of destroying the world to save it depends a lot on your stance on euthanasia, but I liked it because I'm a bit of a misanthrope.

If I had to pick the songs again - I made the submission about a year ago - I'd probably have picked this one.

Great episode!

I only got 1 correct (Game 2). I have not played any of the other 4 games.

Wow, game 1 has some fantastic music. The original Batman has also been used on the show before, both displaying the great music Sunsoft had, 8-bit music at its finest.

Game 2 was such a let-down for me, personally, when I played it. Yoshi's Island DS is not a bad game, but the SNES original has such a special place in my heart that it's quite difficult for anything to best it.

My fiance and I were laughing so hard when Zach started discussing his passion for game 5, Poke Park. "You get... to make best friends!!!" Zach is so enthusiastic about it.

I was first introduced to game 3 by some friends in high school. It is honestly not a great game, but it is pretty unique and so it is interesting at least until it starts to wear thin. The first "fish" stage was my favorite. Not only could I move freely in two dimensions, but we thought it was pretty funny that after attacking the jellyfish, they turned into hams that you are supposed to eat... but I thought pigs had not evolved yet! I also like the music from that stage (which you played during your discussion), which is probably why I requested the game. I just did some research and found out that the composer for this game is the same guy who does the Dragon Quest games. If I had ever played any of those it might mean more to me. I did kind of force myself to finish the game two or three years ago, but it was probably not worth it.

I have no idea what EVO stands for. Obviously, I think they just shortened the word "evolution" and wanted to make it look more interesting and so made it look like an acronym or something.

As an aside, I wish we could sometimes hear some non-Nintendo songs occasionally. Perhaps a special episode? Otherwise, are there any similar podcasts "name the tune" style podcasts that feature other systems?

They have technically done songs from games that never appeared on Nintendo systems before the Virtual Console. I am not sure I would want games that are not playable on a Nintendo system to be used. Not that I don't like songs from other games, but I think the goal is to focus on these games.

I'd actually like an episode of music from "games that were supposed to be on Nintendo platforms but ended up going elsewhere." That way, we could get some Super Meat Boy love on the show. Talk about excellent music.

I've considered doing a special episode on non-Nintendo games in the past, but it just never seemed right.... Zach's idea seems like an amusing compromise, though....

Never played game one, but the music was awesome.  I think that Sunsoft games always featured my favorite soundtracks in the NES era e.g. Blaster Master, Gremlins, the first Batman, Uncle Fester's quest, etc.   Provided motivation for my run the other night because I happened to be listening to Radio Trivia; I'm such a nerd for saying this, but a good game soundtrack can go pretty well with jogging.
