Nintendo Download - August 18, 2011

Urban champions brawl in 3D and plenty of videos abound in this week's update.

http://www.nintendoworldreport.com/news/27529

Five new games were released today across Nintendo's download services, and three new videos will be available this week on Nintendo Video.

The highlight of the week comes in the form of 3D Classics Urban Champion on the eShop. The game is a classic fighter where the objective is to beat the other opponent either by draining his health bar or knocking him down a manhole. This remake enhances the classic presentation by giving it a 3D look. It is available now for $4.99.

For both the eShop and DSiWare three new games are available. The first of this is Blockado - Puzzle Island, a puzzle adventure game by Bitfield in which players help a woman named Valerie escape the island by solving several puzzles. It has been priced at $4.99.

Mumbo Jumbo's Build-a-lot is the second game for the week. The game is a simulator in which players build and control their cities as well as visit other cities and help the mayors out.

The third and final game for eShop and DSiWare is Zoonies - Escape from Makatu from Kiloo. The $4.99/500 DSi Point game is a platformer starring Leo, a small lion that must make his way through the jungle.

The featured video for the week is Jason Derudo's "It Girl," Presented in 3D, the video is one of the singles off of his album "Future History," which will be released on September 27. UYUYU!! is the second video of the week, which arrives today. It's an animated video starring two children who are separated and must get back. The final video is Duel, from College Humor, which will be available on August 20. It pits various warriors in unlikely duel matches.

Only one WiiWare title is available today, a port of the popular Firemint mobile title, Flight Control. For 500 Wii Points ($5), players guide airplanes to safety by drawing the paths on the screen, guiding them to the landing points. Three other players can also join in and participate in Flight Control.

If any of you buy Urban Champion 3D, we can no longer be friends.

Except for JP, I know his a) weakness for 3DS eShop stuff, b) position as reviews editor mandate that he buy it to give it the 0.5 it deserves, and c) his utter lack of sanity.

Wait. JP is reviews editor? Since when?!?!

EDIT: Also, for those who don't know, I've been doing eShop Round-ups for GamePro since launch. I bought Urban Champion for that, and it's terrible. I question Nintendo's sanity for ever thinking making this was a good idea. Excitebike? Yea, I get it. Xevious? Yea, it looks pretty cool. Urban Champion? I'd rather have a 3D version of Anticipation.

I bought Urban Champion and I'm actually enjoying it. It's nowhere near as bad as everyone claimed it to be and the 3D effects are really nice.

I am surprised at how much support Nintendo gives to Urban Champion. Time and time again it has been hailed as one of the worst NES games ever made. Yet they keep releasing it much to the annoyance of players. Now they can annoy them in 3D!

I checked to see if the game had any significance, and it seems to be a random game they made.

Yep, it's far worse.

LOOK AT THAT SWEET HIT DETECTION!

It sounds like Barker Bill's Trick Shooting...

Unrelated to Urban Chumpion - Why are we getting Nintendo Video stuff in the downloads press release. The stupid thing marks them all as new every week/day/microsecond anyway.

I'm loving Urban Champion.  I really want this guy in the next Smash Bros.

Urban Champion is the logical conclusion of competitive Smash Bros. players' stage restrictions.

LOOK AT THAT SWEET HIT DETECTION!

I think those are blocked attacks, not hit detection issues.

Pretty sure that's just a weak punch. There are strong and weak punches in this game. Weak punches are worthless.

Yep, there are weak punches, blocked punches, etc.  There's more strategy to this game than it gets credit for.

- Yeah, his hands were down, so the low punch was blocked.  You punch the head when his hands are down, punch the gut when his hands are up, otherwise, no damage.  SMART hit detection.

As Neal said, I'm not Reviews Editor, I'm News Editor, which is a harder job with fewer perks ;). I do handle the VC recommendations, but as far as the site's concerned the 3D Classics don't fall into the category of the Virtual Console, so I don't have to download it, and that largely semantic distinction is also enough for me to be able to choose not to buy it. Can't argue with C, though.
