The Hidden Impressions

Yet another AR ghost-hunting game.

Since augmented reality was introduced to games, it seems that one of the first ideas developers have is to make a ghost hunting game. 1st Playable's The Hidden might actually be the first to make it to market on a Nintendo system, just in time for Halloween. Like Ghostwire and Spirit Hunters Inc, The Hidden had a DSi iteration, but the 3DS's improved technical specs allow for a better game.

Players join the fictional G.E.I.S.T. squad, the Ghostly Entity Investigation and Strike Team. As you interact with real environments, the game is designed as if you are an agent with an functional ghost hunting device, and the system includes a virtual e-mail system where correspondence and assignments are given.

The Hidden's ghosts are rendered in translucent 3D, which makes them integrate well with the environment. Players must target these apparitions, shoot and destroy them. The game uses the Circle Pad and gyroscope in conjunction with the camera.

The game also keeps a log of visited places, including photos. It recognizes different environments, encouraging players to seek out varied real-life locations to track and hunt different ghosts.

Like other ghost hunter AR games, The Hidden's concept is interesting, but the ultimate depth of gameplay is questionable. Hopefully, encounters increase in complexity, or it will get old quickly.

What are the other Ghost hunting AR games?   I've never heard of any others.

Oh yeah, I know I have 2 sealed copies of that game.   1 is for trading.  But people who collect Amiibos?  They really have a problem!

Ghostwire and Spirit Hunters Inc, which I mentioned in the first paragraph. Neither have actually made it out yet despite a long time under development.
