So yeah, I just got back from EVO 2011 in Las Vegas. Highlights:
-Getting on the stream and losing to Ryan Hart in MK
-Sending a bunch of people home in SF and Marvel
-Getting 4th in the Skullgirls tournament and getting some sweet original art
‎-Meeting a bunch of cool people like Ryan Hart, JustFrame James, Viscant, one of those Cannon brothers (they look-a the same), Mike Z and the skullgirls crew, RyRy, and probably more people that I forgot

I also went to all the panels I had time for if you guys wanna hear about any particular ones. I also watched every set of finals. I'm in like the 7th row in the green shirt if there are any crowd shots!

These are the top four players (I'm one of them!) in a single elimination tournament. There was a playoff for 3rd/4th (which I lost

) ...but I still got a nifty little prize!

There may be some other matches popping up but I certainly didn't record any for myself. Maybe some other people recorded theirs when I played them?

SUPER, I would be interested in this contest. I'm assuming that the GWL version is able to hook up with Steam version for online play? Just too bad there isn't cross play between the PC and console versions, as the input devices aren't really a barrier for either given the genre.

But seriously Netherealm has to really improve in order for the next MK game to be something special. This game was fun and worth the value but as a fighting game it's still not as good as Capcom's offering (from the actual fighting standpoint).

Eh. Adding some lame-ass movie character like Freddy Kruger was the biggest mistake Netherrealm made with Mortal Kombat. They could have at least given us a relevant horror character, like Pinhead or something.

Capcom's fighting may be "better", but it's not anywhere near as fun. Nor is it as entertaining to watch, if Evo was any indication.

Um, I think that for every 10 people who know who Freddy Krueger is, 1 will know who Pinhead is. Pinhead is far less well know or relevant, Freddy seems like a natural fit to Mortal Kombat and I couldn't disagree more in your statement that he is a lame movie character.

Uh what? People were one step from rioting during Marvel and SF4. Maybe a lot of people thought it was a foregone conclusion that Perfect Legend was going to win MK...

Also, for MK, I don't really care about Freddy by himself, but if there was Freddy AND Jason, I would be all over that ****!

Freddy and Jason would be even worse. Talk about desperate characters. Neither has ever been in anything worth watching and neither are particularly inspired by any means. It'd be like putting Chucky or something in. Barf. If they just had to include an 80s horror movie icon, then it should have been Pinhead... hands down. He fits the tone so much better, and would have had some truly awesome moves with his chains and meat hooks. Besides, at least he had two great films under his belt before the ran the franchise into the ground.

It does strike me as odd that Freddy doesn't say anything during battle however. His lame one-liners are kind of his "thing". :\
