The ones in the levels? I think you're just supposed to get as many coins as possible. I didn't worry about 'em too much since in all the levels with one of those you can still get all 3 star medals without really accomplishing anything in there.

If anyone is wondering, you get nothing for completing the final level with Mario and Luigi. I think it's there for the challenge. It's not really worth the trouble unless you're a completion whore.

No, that's nonsense. He wasn't playable in the last 4 Mario games. Why would he be playable in this game?

Um...you aren't forgetting the Luigi levels in Galaxy 2, are you?  Because as an Anti-Luigi person, I hated those levels, and will never forget them.   Damn Luigi.

Whoa, wait.  Was Luigi playable in Galaxy 1?  Seriously, not being sarcastic here.

After you get all 120 stars, you get to go back and do it again with Luigi.

So there are 302 Gold Coins in this game?

I count a possible 299 before you play the the last level, and 3 you can get on the last level.

Right now I need 6 coins to unlock the last level (290) and there are 15 available to get (+3 on the last level).

Is there anything special for gold flags at the end of every level? Ho about getting every coin in a level?

Gold Flags on all the levels get you another Star on your save file.  All coins doesn't do anything but it should.

Are you sure? I have 4 stars on mine, I think one was from the original 8 worlds, the second from the special zone, the third from beating the last stage with Luigi they roll the credits again and give you more of those postcards, and the last would be from the medals. I got all of them and am still working getting the gold flags/beating all level with both bros.

So I have 193 coins and I finished the last level (S8).

I got a weak ass ending. What gives?
Bowser with the Princess and it kicks me back to the main screen. What am I missing?

You either need more Star Medals or you need to beat Bowser's castle in Normal World 8 again. Possibly both. Either way, if you're hoping for better ending, don't be silly.

I was hoping for an ending. any ending after beating Special World 8.

There wasn't even credits or the reveal of a new goal. Just a postcard with Bowser and Peach and then it kicked me back to the main screen.

Yeah, go back to Normal World 8 and see if there isn't a red exclamation point over the last stage.

edit: There was a exclamation point on W8 last level. I went back and beat it again.

I've got lots of Red exclamation points, what do they mean (I've kept myself in the dark for this game and refuse to read the manual  :cool; )?

for example:
Red !:
W1, W3, W5, W7, W8

edit 2: Looks like those are for all the unvisited mushroom houses.

So, I beat all the stages with both bros today. I gave the super secret bonus level a couple of tries before I got hungry. It's actually pretty challenging. I'm usually not a completionist, but for some reason, I was just compelled. Might just be time for me to pick up some new 3DS games.

So it looks like there are actually 306 coins in the game?
there were some unaccounted for coins in purple boxes.

I just have 4 coins to go in S8 and to beat all the levels in S8 w/ Luigi and then onto the super secret level?

edit:.... guess I was wrong on the coins again. 312coins
but I finally made it.

I finally got this game today. I'm through world 3. AND I EFFING LOVE IT. At this point I'm convinced that Tokyo EAD only employs witches and wizards. I dunno what unique thoughts I have to add. The 3D is great, the level design is great, the music and boss battles seem uninspired, etc. It's just shocking to me that we have yet another rejiggering of what a Mario game is and it's just as inventive and fun as the other ones. I'm gonna go play more of it.

I've come to the conclusion that this is now my favorite game of all time. I didn't think it would ever be possible for anything to top Super Mario Bros. 3 for me, but this game managed to do it, perhaps because of how much inspiration EAD Tokyo took from that game in making it.

Maybe I just don't get it, I mean it's a good game but I don't see this as something special. It feels like a devolved version of Super Mario Galaxy. I had to almost force myself to continue playing to unlock everything and that's not something I have had to do since SM64 (which admittedly I didn't play until 5 years after it was released.)

I guess it does draw a lot of inspiration from SMB3, which again is a game that I feel is good but overrated. The levels here all have their gimmick and there's not much else. But hey, maybe it's just me..

You see it as a devolved version of Galaxy, I see it as they boiled Galaxy down to its core gameplay, and then combined it with SMB3. I can see how different people could come to different conclusions based on their preferences in the series.

Also, you're wrong and banned from the forums.
