Wii Price Dropped to $169
« on: April 18, 2011, 02:35:32 PM »

The new price is unanimous across most major retailers in the United States.

http://www.nintendoworldreport.com/news/26092

The price of the Wii has dropped to $169 in the United States at all major retail outlets in the United States. The system, which still has an official MSRP of $199, is being sold at the new lower price by Target, GameStop, Toys 'R Us, Amazon, and Best Buy. The bundle still includes Wii Sports and Wii Sports Resort.

Wal-Mart, however, still lists the system at $199. No official word has come from Nintendo yet regarding a price drop on the Wii, despite rumors circulating last week.

$169.99? Far too little. They've got to get it under $150 AT LEAST. And this talk of "the cost doesn't matter. Whoever wants one already has one" is complete horse ****.

Well, the $150 price drop is supposed to coincide with the bundling of Mario Kart Wii...

This bodes well for an end of the year Wii2 release.

This might just be an interim price drop to give retailers time to clear out all the $199 Wiis without them having to be sold at a loss. After they're all gone, the price may drop again to $149.99.

If retailers are jumping the gun on a price cut then the system must not be selling very well. I can't say I'm surprised that Wal*Mart hasn't dropped the price yet; in my experience (which admittedly is rooted many years ago), they are always the last to comply with price cuts.

I haven't checked a Wii bundle in the store lately. That includes motion plus and Wii Sports Resort, right?

Correct. And it's a Wiimote Plus where the Motion Plus is built into the Wiimote and not an accessory. The only downside to that is that it drains batteries a little faster.

That's because they price match, so if you didn't know it was lower somewhere else, then they would still get their advertised price out of you.

Yeah, you just have to bring the ad from a competitor in and they'll match it.

I'm thinking that this may have been planned for the future, but was perhaps done now due to the Wii 2 stuff that's been floating about.
