Classic TMNT vs. the NEW TMNT
« on: May 05, 2003, 11:19:53 AM »
I grew up with the old-school Teenage Mutant Ninja Turtles cartoon WAY back in the day.  I'm sure plenty of you old-school gamers were there, too, wearing the TMNT green pajamas and imitating what the turtles did on TV to each other in the school yard and all that jazz.  One of my best friends was actually inspired by those old cartoons and is now a black-belt in tai-quan-do.

Fast-forward a decade and a few years... I hear that a NEW Teenage Mutant Ninja Turtles cartoon was coming to FOX.  Being somewhat sceptical about it I wasn't sure that it was a good idea to remake the series for the 21st century (look at Extreme Ghostbusters (new-school) compared to The Real Ghostbusters (old-school)... nowhere near as good as the original cartoon).

I watched the 1st episode... and I was pulled in all over again -- I found myself enjoying it.  After that I went back to college, where I have very little time for TV-watching (gaming is always given time, though!). I figure that the series will be good for the little kiddies of this generation.

What do you all think about the new TMNT series (for those that actually watched it and the old-school TMNT series)?

I haven't seen much of it, but I personally think that it's a much better retake on TMNT than the new "Masters of the Universe" series is.

Personally, I think that the new series is even better than the old one.  (And I LOVED the old one).  I have been trying to watch it more or less consistently, but it's kind of hard without cable or internet access...

I have seen episodes 1 - 8 though, and I definately have to approve.

the thing is its not that different then the old one. The difference is its better animated, voice acted, and is deeper. This new series is just awesome.

I downloaded some TMNT Episodes about a year ago, and all I could think was "What the hell was I Smoking?" I know it was just for kids and stuff and that it wasn't supose to be too complicated for them to understand (Them meaning us, or I anyways) But Geez! My brain started to hurt after the first episode.

The one I downloaded was the one where Shredder thinks he's Michalangeo (sp)

Actually, I think the first season of the original TMNT was done quite well for the time, but after that season, they just went pretty cheap and it went all crappy.

Anywho, that's all I got to say. I didn't see the new episodes yet, nor will I ever, I imagine, however I did catch He-Man. And all I could say was that it was a lot better, in many ways...... cuz once again I downloaded a few old episodes, and geez.... my brain started to melt. At least these ones are a bit more intelligant and use a little more sense. (The episode I seen online was the one where people from Earth crash on He-Man's planet and they had a nuke that they were going to use to blow up a commet heading for Earth, but then Skelitor steals it to use to blow open the doors of Castle Greyskull, and planted it at the door, and hid behind a rock or something......... it all went downhill from there.

My memories of the original TMNT are rather faint. But from what I can remember, this new series blows it away. That council is rather strange, three people talking with the exact same voice. I wonder if Krang has anything to do with that, or if the little pink blob is in this series.
If the graphics are bad, I'll ignore them.
If the style's been used before, I won't care. I don't get sick of styles.
If the story is weak, I'll make up my own.
I only care about gameplay.

Old school all the way.  I liked the real life series the brought to Fox a couple years ago, but I just really don't like the new series.

Bah, I thought the real-life actor version was horrid =P
I'm yet to see this new series (Australia, ya see. Arse of the World) but I hope it's at good, as the upcoming Konami TMNT game is based on it...

Are there any new stupid characters? They like to do that when bringing an old cartoon back to life, introduce stupid new 'zany' characters nobody likes...

I caught the new TMNT myself and I liked it alot, I think it cannot be compared to the old school though.  The old school is in a leauge of its own and gives the new school alot of fans.  Including me,  oh and is anybody else ready for the new movie and video game?

I'm going to way in on the series.  The old series was more fun and geared toward kids.  The new series is geared towards adults/teens.  It's got a harder edge, more complicated story, and a general more sci-fi fill.  It's a lot like TF Gen 1 vs TF Beast Wars.  Good for their own seperate reasons.

Of course the "original" series was just a butchered version of the comic that was made kid friendly. The turtles were always dark and angry, the TV series just misrepresented them.

All you have to do is look at the page's source code to find the url for movie file (to DL the file), or if you can get QT Pro you can DL the files.

QT Pro? I don't even have regular Quicktime because that application sucks butt. No way in hell I'd support that. Quicktime Alternative FTW.

It prevents extracting the filename to download, trying to download the file it lists gives a wrong file (probably streaming initialization data).

Hm, I tried all the time with the first one and that didn't work. The second works somehow.
