Nintendo service sucks
« on: March 04, 2011, 08:17:00 PM »
So I bought my son a Wii for Christmas this last year and we finally got around to connecting the unit to the internet.
Well to make a long story short i got an error code. Even though the router was found, it would freeze on the update.
I sent the unit into Nintendo and after 15 days i receive am email telling me that my Wii was modded with "freebrew"and the warranty was no good.

Like I said this was a new unit bought from Toys R Us and i really feel Nintendo is not holding up their coverage of this console. I plan on trying to take this back to Toys r US but as you all know they are VERY strict about games and systems.

Thanks for letting me vent my anger :@

You might try calling their support line a few times and escalating the situation, letting them know what the deal is. Maybe somebody did swap it at Toys R Us, or maybe you got a refurb system that wasn't wiped properly. You could also take your story to The Consumerist.

It sounds to me like Megabyte is right and the someobody swapped the system or the TrU employees took that Wii to the back and played with it only to have it put back on the shelf.  When I bought my brand new Wii in the US there were tons of Mii's and things that were already on it so I know it had already been used but luckily there was no homebrew to screw me over.

Is it possible your son might have modded it or tried to mod it without you knowing about it?  All it really requires is an SD card.   If it has been softmodded there is probably a way for you to fix this problem yourself if it becomes too much of a pain in the ass for the reps to do it.

Don't give up talking to the customers reps at Nintendo or TrU and somebody should help you.

Was thinking the same thing, are you the only one that plays it or has access to it?

Just because your kids young doesn't mean he/she doesn't know someone from school that can mod them.  Had one guy at my job had his xbox live account banned because his g/f kids hacked it.  They were 7 and learned it from youtube.  Go figure.

PM me the serial number from the system.  Check your box and make sure the serial number on the box matches the system.  If it doesn't, PM both to me.

Just some random guy on the internet who has a different opinion of games than you.

It also requires specific games.
