Launch/Launch Window Title for 3DS

I already have my 3DS preordered, and I was just thinking we should have a thread to collect all the games that will be available at or near launch for the system

Layton is only a launch game in Japan, we probably won't get it in North America until 2012.

This is the official list from Nintendo of "launch window" games (which covers the system launch on March 27 until E3 in June), more may be confirmed though since Nintendo has promised more than 30 games for the time frame:

Pilotwings Resort
Nintendogs + cats
Steel Diver
Shin Megami Tensei: Devil Survivor Overclocked
Super Street Fighter IV 3D Edition
Resident Evil: The Mercenaries 3D
Madden NFL Football
The Sims 3
Pro Evolution Soccer 2011 3D
LEGO Star Wars III: The Clone Wars
Ridge Racer 3D
Dual Pen Sports
Super Monkey Ball 3D
Thor: God of Thunder
Crush 3D
Bust-A-Move Universe
Samurai Warriors Chronicles
Dead or Alive Dimensions
Asphalt 3D
Tom Clancy's Ghost Recon Shadow Wars
Combat of Giants: Dinosaurs 3D
Tom Clancy's Splinter Cell 3D
Rayman 3D
Rabbids Travel in Time

No problem.

Unlike with the DS launch, there are several 3DS launch games I want (we don't know all of the actual launch games, as in games coming out the same day as the system). Street Fighter and Pilotwings are launch games, and I am interested in both. LEGO looks really good too.

I never played Pilotwings, so I'm psyched for that, as well as Street Fighter. I haven't looked into SMT: Devil Survivor Overclocked, but if it's just Devil Survivor plus content (which it sounds like) I don't know if I'll get it.

It is. It's a port of the DS game will some added content: a 8th day (compared to 7 for the DS), improved visuals, full voice acting, the ability to choose difficulty settings, and at least 20 new demons.

I'm picking up Steel Diver and SSFIV3D definitely. The last slot is a toss up between Rayman 3D and Super Monkey Ball 3D.

I loved Rayman 2 back in the day and never had an opportunity to get more than halfway through it during my rental period. The game is a fantastic platformer with fun and varied gameplay mechanics on top of a stellar sound track. This appears to me a port of the superior Dreamcast version.

As for Monkey Ball, I absolutely adored the first one on Gamecube. I didn't like the control scheme of the Wii version although it was a solid game (why didn't they make the tilt control using the nes style? Pointing and tilting at the same time just never felt precise enough). This is the first portable Monkey Ball that I feel will be able to do the original Gamecube version justice.

Wicked excited and am more affraid that I'll buy all four at launch...a very expensive proposition.

So, now that it's confirmed, what's everyone planning to get on launch day? Myself, I want SSFIV:3DE, Pilot Wings Resort and either Bust-A-Move or Super Monkey Ball.

Some of those I would get if they were $30 or less (all of them are either confirmed or expected to be $40). I plan to get Street Fighter, Pilotwings, Monkey Ball, maybe LEGO and/or Bust-A-Move.

I want to see reviews before buying anything, but I'm interested in Ghost Recon, Pro Evolution Soccer, Pilotwings, Steel Diver, Asphalt, and, despite myself, Madden.

The first 3DS reviews came out in Famitsu today. I know the magazine lost a lot of credibility a few years ago and these are the Japanese versions, but here you go (out of 40 for those unfamiliar with their rating system):

Nintendogs + Cats- 38
Super Street Fighter IV 3D Edition- 34
Dynasty Warriors Chronicle- 34
Winning Eleven 3D Soccer (the Japanese name for Pro Evolution Soccer) - 32
Super Monkey Ball 3D- 32
Ridge Racer 3D- 32
Professor Layton and the Mask of Miracles- 32
Shanghai 3D Cube- 26
Puzzle Bobble 3D (Bust-A-Move)- 24
Combat of Giants: Dinosaurs- 24

For those curious, the PS3/XBox 360 versions of Street Fighter IV also got a score of 34/40.

Just the idea of a title in the Professor Layton series getting a 32/40... I love those games..... Damn Famitsu..... I wonder what the other Layton games got? And does anyone know when Layton X Wright comes out?

The game just has a "TBA 2011" release date so far. Unfortunately it has only been confirmed for Japan so far.

As for Layton, that is about the average score. Curious Village got 33, Diabolical Box got 34, Unwound Future got 33, Spectral Flute got 34. So technically this is the "lowest" scoring one, but practically the same.

Thanks again TJ Spyke. I cannot wait for Layton X Wright. Fantastic franchises, maybe even better together. And I hope we get a new Picross for 3DS. And a real 2D Metroid.....  A new Advance Wars.. I have such high hopes... What does everyone else want to see on 3DS?

Layton X Wright has got to come to America eventually, right? Both Layton and Wright sell fairly well here, I think. They better come! With all the text in them, you couldn't import them unless you have strong Japanese fluency....... and I don't. Though I am working on Chinese. 中文很好。

If I can only get one should I get Steel Diver or Pilot Wings?  Bust a Move is the wild card.

Currently leaning towards Pilot Wings but it just being wuhu island feels tech demoish.  Steel Diver was in development hell for so long which makes me hesitant.

Guess I'll wait for reviews?

My favorite part of Wii Sports Resort (which is entirely on Wuhu Island) was the the fly over of it, so that wouldn't be a problem for me. Others are interested in Steel Diver, but the videos of it I have seen do not make me want to buy it at all.

I am not sure I would say Steel Diver was in development hell. It was nothing more than a tech demo for the DS (Reggie even said so), but for some reason one they started working on the 3DS that they should resurrect the tech demo and turn it into a full game.

That is what I am thinking of doing, still getting a 3DS at launch but I am not sure which games to get. Steel Driver is one that I just don't know enough about and have heard mixed reactions, who knows how the final game will turn out, pre-launch reactions have been wrong before. With Pilotwings, I need to hear a confirmation that it has more to do and see beyond what is in Wii Sports Resort, don't get me wrong I think WuHu Island is brilliantly designed, but I've seen it before. Personally I would be convinced to buy it if you could explore it on foot, but Pilotwings is about flying so I really doubt it.

I'm curious about a lot of blowback from people  complaining about the $40 price tag of the majority of the 3DS line up. Although some 3rd party games are charging $50, all of the first party games are only $5 more than their DS counter parts.

Are people really considering not buying 3DS games that essentialy look like wii games because they're $5 more?

Where did you read $50? I haven't seen any 3DS games in the US priced like that (at least confirmed, GameStop was using tentative prices).

Anyways, I think it's just that people may be buying fewer games if they are $40 since most DS games were $30, with some being $35. This is especially true for niche games.

I am pretty poor. As a college student (and unemployed) I have little spending money and even $10 more per title is substantial for me..... Oh dear.... Well, I'll just have to take advantage of Christmas I guess? Hope the games will be worth the extra.
