« on: February 12, 2011, 01:14:27 PM »
Can anyone recommend any good Gamecube games? I am severly lacking that ga,e collection, so I am looking to build up my arsenal of Gamecube games. I have almost beat all of my Wii games and ranther than buy new Wii games I would prefer to buy cheaper games.

I'm going to stay away from your typical Nintendo games on this list.  You already know them and probably already have them.  I recommend Skies of Arcadia Legends, Baten Kaitos, Baten Kaitos Origins, Tales of Symphonia, the Prince of Persia Sands of Time Trilogy (Sands of Time, Warrior Within, Two Thrones), the Megaman X Collection, and Star Wars: Rogue Squadron 2 - Rogue Leader.  All but one of those (the Megaman X Collection) are still in my collection, though I'd probably get rid of the Prince of Persia trilogy if I could now that Ubisoft's formally announced a disc version of the HD re-releases.

Easy:
Paper Mario: The Thousand-Year Door
Super Smash Bros. Melee
Luigi's Mansion
Donkey Kong Jungle Beat (get the DK Bongos though, the game is not as fun using the GCN controller)
Metroid Prime
Metroid Prime 2: Echoes
The Legend of Zelda: The Wind Waker
Tales of Symphonia
TimeSplitters 2 (the only bad thing are the long load times, which is why I preferred the Xbox version)

There are more, but this is a good selection.

There's also Timesplitters 3, and Fire Emblem: Path of Radiance that I had forgotten.  I wouldn't recommend the Metroid Prime games, though, on GC.  The Wii Metroid Prime Collection is more than satisfactory.

These are some of my favorites:

Rogue Leader: Rogue Squadron II (Rebel Strike: Rogue Squadron III lets you play Rogue Leader in 2-player split screen mode only, if you've got a friend who would enjoy the game, too)
Pikmin
Eternal Darkness
Skies of Arcadia (rpg)
Ikaruga (difficult 2-d shooter game)
Metroid Prime (unless you got the Wii one that has all 3... but at this point, you could pick the GameCube version much cheaper)
Soul Calibur II (Link as a playable character)

I only listed games I have played, but I have heard good things about both of those. I agree on the Wii Prime collection, although that is pretty expensive and hard to get.

You can't go wrong with anything already mentioned. I personally enjoyed the hell out of Eternal Darkness, both Timesplitters 2 and 3 and Super Monkey Ball 1 and 2, and Pikmin 1 and 2 as well. When I have a look at my collection I will post a few more recommendations. What type of genres do you tend to like, kytim? And I'm sorry to say, there is only one Rare game on the Gamecube.

I second every game mentioned so far other than Bloodrayne ;).

Metal Gear Solid: Twin Snakes, Beyond Good and Evil, Two Towers, Return of the King and Custom Robo are all fun games.

The Hobbit is a terribly underrated game. It plays similar to a more linear Zelda with platforming elements. It looks great and the art style is very fitting for the tone of the book I think. I loved it.

If you can get the GBAs and link cables then when you pick up Pac-Man Vs also grab Crystal Chronicles and Zelda Four Swords.

No one has mentioned Rouge Squadron 3 yet. But you should get that one if only for the fact it has the entirety of Rogue Squadron 2 on it with co-op. The game isn't all bad, just the foot missions. I'd still get it and force your way through those foot missions to get to the yummy space combat levels.

I think it's been said already, but I highly recommend Pikmin 2. I'm such a huge fan of that game that I imported the New Play Control version from Europe when they didn't release it in America.

Kytim it is pretty fun.Has good replay value. You can get different types of suits. 1 is mainly focused on offense, one is balanced, and the other is more defensive. I personally like the defensive suits since you can have rapid fire on them.Just have to hold the fire button. The more offensive ones are more powerful but you have to have a pretty fast finger and you have to be good with evading. After you beat the game you can start a new game and continue with whatever suits you had in your last playthrough and if you took to upgrade them fully before than you can max out all the attributes so the only real difference is the energy drives on the suits.

Black N Mild yeah it is an underrated game. It is a pretty good mix of 3rd person shooter,Psychic abilitys and some puzzles.Didn't get to far in the game.

This is why I would like to see Gamecube find its way onto Virtual Console in the future simply because of its robust game selection and the fact that game contracts are still young enough that legal entanglements would nt be as bad as those on other virtual consoles.

The problem with PN 03 is the repetition. Graphics are clean, very nice for the Gamecube. But there's not much for it to render so it better be good. As long as you know what you're getting into, its a decent game.

I didn't get very far into Second Sight either. Not because I didn't want to, though if it were really compelling, I would have stuck it out.

You seriously recommend Bounty Hunter, Bustin? I found the game to be broken, shallow, buggy and unplayable after a point. Great concept and a lot of ideas I wanted to love but the execution just failed in the end.

Many of the games are too big for the 512MB of internal storage the Wii has. It probably will happen someday, but probably not until the Wii 2.

I found Bounty Hunter to be a fun 3rd person game set in the Star Wars universe, and you get to play as Bubba Fett (or is it the other one? I don't remember). I didn't notice many bugs, but that might be because I wasn't looking, or I was allowing it to be just because? I'll have to boot it up again and give it another run.

The game froze on my and trapped me in rooms multiple times.

One level I couldn't go more than an inch before getting one-hit killed by a sniper. It was a later level in the desert on Tatooine I think. I quit then and sold the game.
